Father's Day Gift Idea and DIY Leather Gift Tag

Father’s Day is this Sunday and in case you’re still looking for that special gift,  I wanted to share a bit more about one of the products featured in my Father’s Day Gift Guide. And I’ve got some gift wrap inspiration to share with you today too!

Shopping for dad (and men in general) can be tough. Unique men’s gifts are hard to come by.  I was recently introduced to Harry’s, an online shop for men’s shaving and grooming products. The fine folks at Harry’s sent a few products for my husband to try and after using them he gave the products two-thumbs up.

Since my hubby is a member of the FMWH Club (aka–fine men without hair) and uses a razor to shave his head and his face, I decide to do a little Q & A with him to share why he love the Harry’s products.

Harry's--Men's Shaving Products--Father's Day Gift Idea

Me:  How does the Harry’s razor compare to the drugstore razors you typically buy?

Him:  The first thing I noticed about the razor was the multiple blades on the razor head.  Multiple razors mean you’ll get a close, smooth shave.  I also liked the cushioned handle which felt good in my hand.

Harry's--Men's Shaving Products--Father's Day Gift Idea

Me:  What did you think about the products included in the Winston Set?

Him:  I liked the combination of items in the set and that the packaging and graphics were simple and not fussy.

fyi–the Winston Set comes with a 4 oz. Foaming Shave Gel, Razor, 3 Blade Cartridges and a Blade Cover, all for $25.

Harry's--Men's Shaving Products--Father's Day Gift Idea

Me:  I know you like a shave cream that lathers good, how did Harry’s Foaming Shave Gel and Shave Cream compare to other products you’ve use?

Him:  It only took a dime size amount of Harry’s shave gel to get a good lather.  The consistency of the gel was great for shaving my head and helped to prevent nicks from the blade.  I used the  Shave Cream on my face and liked how easy it was to move the blade around my face and neck.

note:  Harry’s blades were specifically designed for face shaving but they can be used on the head, especially for seasoned shavers like those in the FMWH Club.

Harry's--Men's Shaving Products

Me:  You like to put aftershave on your face and head once you’ve shaved so what did you think of Harry’s Post Shave Balm?

Him:  Typically post shave products make my head sting when I put them.  There was a little sting with Harry’s shave balm but it had a cooling effect on my skin.  And it didn’t leave my head or face dried out and tight like other products.

Harry's--Men's Shaving Products

Me:  The last product you tired was the Face Lotion?  What did you think of it?

Him:  I don’t like heavy products on my face so Harry’s was good because it wasn’t heavy or oily.

Harry's--Men's Shaving Products

Now that you know what my hubby thought of the Harry’s products, let me tell you something I loved about it. I loved the way the products smelled.  All of the items have a fresh, clean scent which lasted throughout the day.

Harry’s products are sold exclusively through their e-commerce site and their New York barber shop, Harry’s Corner Shop.  Selling online allows them to offer high-quality shaving products at prices well below their competition.  And Harry’s has a great subscription plan which will deliver blades and products directly to your door based on how often someone shaves.  This is a great service since most men don’t like shopping.

Now that we’ve got your Father’s Day gift covered, here’s how to make you own DIY Leather Gift Tag to use with your gift wrap.

DIY Leather Gift Tag by ConfettiStyle

I love paper gift tags but lately I’ve been making my own  fabric tags.

DIY Leather Gift Tag by ConfettiStyle--Father's Day Gift Wrap

Fabric gift tags are super easy to make and all you need to make your own is a few inexpensive supplies.

Supplies:

DIY Leather Gift Tag by ConfettiStyle

How to make fabric gift tags:

  1. Place fabric face side down and trace the outline of the paper tag on to the back of the fabric.
  2. Punch a hole in the fabric using the hole it the paper tag as a guide.
  3. Cut out the fabric tag.
  4. Cover the shipping tag with adhesive glue and attach the fabric to the tag.
  5. Attach the grommet in the tag hole.
  6. Write a message on the back of the tag and you’re ready to wrap your gift.

tip: You can leave the front of your tags plain or add an embellishment like an adhesive monogram that you can pick up at the craft store.

Valentine's Day Gift Wrap Inspiration by ConfettiStyle

Once you’ve purchased your gift you’ll want to wrap them to make them extra special.  This year I’m sticking to traditional colors–red & white and keeping my wrap fun and impactful. Here are two Valentine’s Day gift wrap ideas that you can pull together in a flash.

Valentine's Day Gift Wrap Inspiration by ConfettiStyle

Similar chipboard letters here

The foundation of my wrap is a tone-on-tone white striped paper.  I wanted the paper to have a little dimension and this fit the bill perfectly.  After I wrapped the boxes, I added a few embellishments.

I wrapped the first box with red & white twine and laced the ends through a paper heart with holes punched in the center.  I made the heart from decorative scrapbook paper using a  template I downloaded here. The plaid heart gives this gift a slightly more masculine feel and I love the pattern mixing that all the elements create.

tip:  look in the wedding section of big box stores for beautiful and elegant white wrapping paper.

Valentine's Day Gift Wrap Inspiration by ConfettiStyle

For the second gift, I wrapped striped ribbon around the center of the box and tied a bow along one edge. Next I decorated the top of the box with large chipboard spelling out XOXO.  I painted the letters with red acrylic paint before attaching them to the box with double-sided tape.

I just love how my Valentine’s gift wrap turned out.  I hope these ideas will encourage you to put a little heart & love into making your gifts extra special for the ones you love!

Holiday Gift Guide | Gifts For Him

I don’t know about the rest of you ladies but when it comes to buying Christmas gifts for men, I find myself stumped more often than not.

Take my husband for instance.  Whenever I ask him what he wants for Christmas, his typical response is “whatever you get me is great.” What’s a girl to do with that?  And just how many sweaters does one man need?

Then there’s my brother.  He is a ‘techie’ and loves electronics and computer stuff but if he wants something, he buys it for himself.  When Christmas rolls around, I’m left clueless as to what to get him.

So in honor of all the hard-to-buy-for-men out there, here are some great gift ideas I think will garner a big hug on Christmas morning.

Favorite Items from The Atlanta Gift & Furniture Market

Happy Monday!  If you’ve been wondering where I’ve been, let’s just say in the land of busy.  In addition to spending 9 days at the Atlanta Gift & Furniture Market, I’ve also been knee-deep in working on a design project and gearing up for another year as board president of a local non-profit.  Even though it’s only the 3rd week of January, I feel like Christmas was ages ago and the days are flying by at lightening speed.

To mark the return to a normal posting schedule, I wanted to share a few of the items I spotted at AmericasMart.  If you’re unfamiliar with the Atlanta Gift & Furniture Market,  you can read all about it here.

♦♦♦

First up is one of my favorite lighting companies, Currey & Company. The company is best known for their stylish lighting but they also sell beautiful accent furniture and accessories.

The inlaid wood pattern on the Benedict Credenza grabbed my attention first and then I noticed the sleek brass hardware.  I envision this piece being placed under a wall-mount TV or as a buffet/bar cabinet in a dining room.

There were lots of beautiful lighting fixtures introduced at market but the two below really stood out.  The Frogmore Lantern is designed with an intricate leaf design and gold-leaf finish. #goldisheretostay  Can’t you just see this beauty hanging over a garden tub or kitchen island?

Retro designs are not my personal style but I loved everything about the Gino Chandelier.  The tapered cone design and matte black finish give it just the right amount of sexiness.  This fixture would look stunning hanging over a glass or marble top dining table.

Currey and Company from Atlanta Gift and Furniture Market--Jan. 2017

I’m sure many of you have come across products from Palecek before but probably don’t know much about the company.  The company is over 40 years old and has a foundation in manufacturing products using natural fibers, renewable materials and environmentally friendly hardwoods.  Their style is distinctive with products designed around simple details and organic shapes.

Anything in brass and leather is sure to grab my attention and this Alexander Chair did just that.  I loved the fresh, modern take on a classic directors chair and would use a pair of these chairs in a reading room or study.

Ottomans are one of my go-to accent furniture pieces and it was refreshing to come across this one covered in something other than fabric.  The Fritz Rope Ottoman is wrapped in natural and black seagrass rope creating the look of an upholstered piece.  A pair of these would be great in a sunroom or outdoor covered patio.

Palecek from Atlanta Gift and Furniture Market--Jan. 2017

Gabby Home is a product line that is known for stylish pieces and vintage designs. Their style offering ranges from contemporary and modern to traditional and classic.

I loved the lines of their Julian Coffee Table with gold trim detail.  And because I believe every room needs a touch of black, this coffee table would be ideal to add dram and depth to a living room.

I spotted lots of acrylic pieces at market so expect that trend to be around for a while.  The antique gold frame in their Johnson Dining Chair updated the classic acrylic chair design and elevated the style.

Gabby Home from Atlanta Gift and Furniture Market--Jan. 2017

When I had my store, Uttermost was one of my top vendors.  Uttermost has one of the best selections of oversized mirrors on the market and are also known for their accent furniture and lighting.  This market I came across several new accessory and accent lighting pieces in their line that I loved.

The acrylic and brass Balkan Tray was stunning and I’ve already got it tagged for a design client to use on a hallway console table.

I’ve been on the hunt a brass or gold tone pendant light and loved the rod design and gold-leaf finish on their Glam Mini Pendant.  They are the perfect design and size to hang over a kitchen peninsula.

And how about this chic gold and glass Natasia Accent Table?  Wouldn’t this look great in between two comfy arm chairs?  I could also see it being used nestled into a corner in a powder room to hold accessories and functional items.

Uttermost from Atlanta Gift and Furniture Market--Jan. 2017

If you want to make a statement with your bookshelf decor, then check out E. Lawrence.  In addition to their wholesale business they also have an e-commerce site that anyone can purchase from.  Unlike many manufacturers, E. Lawrence sells just one thing…beautiful decorative books.  Their product offering ranges from traditional leather-bound books to books with stylish covers.    Their newest collections included a quotation series (which I love) and lots of metallic finishes.

E. Lawrence Books from Atlanta Gift and Furniture Market--Jan. 2017

And finally there’s Go Home.  This is another company I purchased from when I had my store.  I love their eclectic mix of products which include furniture, decorative accessories, lighting and bar accessories.

The Collete Coffee Table is a great piece for a smaller space and I love the gold frame and design detail that supports the top and bottom shelves.

Among their decorative accessories, Go Home carries lots of great basket styles.  I loved this collection of Shumer Baskets which have a classic blue and white design and fun leather carry handles.

One of the industrial designs I fell in love with was the Rockwell Coffee Table which has a gorgeous finish and brass label pulls.

GO Home from Atlanta Gift and Furniture Market--Jan. 2017

I hope you enjoyed this mini tour around the Atlanta Gift & Furniture Market. This is just a glimpse at the thousands upon thousands of new products introduced during the show.  You can expect to see these pieces and all of the new design trends hitting stores soon and online shops soon.  I’ll be back next week to share more insights on the hot trends for 2017.

Along with checking the new furniture and decor introductions at market, I also shop for new design books. #bookjunkie

Tomorrow I’ll share some of the new book titles that you’ll definitely want to add to your Amazon shopping cart.

The Ultimate Holiday Gift Guide

♦  I love everything that Lollia makes including this Lollia Poetic License Diffuser ($48).  Scent diffusers are a great way to add fragrance to a home without burning candles. I especially love to use diffusers in a bathroom or tuck one away in a guest bedroom.

♦  This Gilded Monogram DOF Glass ($18) is a good gift for someone (like me) that loves to entertain. One, two or four make a great hostess gift or family gift.  If you’re celebrating the holidays at a New Year’s Eve party, a set glasses would be ideal to ring in the new year.

♦  A pretty necklace can make an outfit. The Silver Links Statement Necklace ($29.99) is a gift that will be enjoyed long after the holidays are over.

♦ Emerald Green is one of my favorite colors and you can’t beat the price on this Green Pashmina Style Shawl ($5.99)!  It’s the perfect layering piece over a sweater or under a coat. One for them, one for me.√

♦  You’ll wow anyone with a gift of these Silver Mercury Glass Hurricane Candleholder ($11.89-$19.59).  They will look stunning grouped in the center of a table or next to the hearth.  And I’d also use them as vases by dropping a clear glass jar inside to hold flowers.  Check your local Cost Plus because these are selling out quickly online.

♦  Pretty {and functional) gloves are hard to come by but this pair of Echo Touch Zip Boucle’ Tech Gloves ($39) checks both boxes.  You can operate a cell phone with ease and stay warm while doing it.

♦  This L’Objet Malachite Tray ($120) is the most expensive gift in the gift guide but it is a beauty.  Envision this sitting on a side table, night stand or vanity holding pretty perfume bottles.

♦  If you’ve never read any of Steve Harvey’s books, I recommend you do. His books are filled with solid wisdom, advice and lots of laughs too.  I can’t wait to read his newest book, Jump: Take the Leap Of Faith to Achieve Your Life of Abundance ($18.04).

♦  A girl can never have too many handbags.  The Crossbody Bag with Metallic Straps ($39.90) is a great bag for weekend shopping or traveling when you need hands free.

♦ I’m always stuffing my electronic cords in a zippered pouch but they never stay organized.  The idea of something to keep everything neat and tidy is so appealing.  I love this Leather Charger Roll Up ($49) because its compact and comes in fun colors.

♦  Personalized stationery just might be one of best gifts you can give someone. This 7 Tablet Notepad Set with Holder ($41) is a great price and personalization is available in array of colors.

Creating The Perfect Holiday Gift Basket

Creating The Perfect Holiday Gift Basket by ConfettiStyle

Hi friends!  I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving and survived all of the Black Friday madness.  I woke up with the chickens yesterday morning and popped into a few stores.  I’m happy to say that I was able to snag a couple of really great deals (for the hubby) but sadly I didn’t get anything crossed off my Christmas gift list 🙁  Oh well, I still have 28 more days to get my shopping done, right?!

Yesterday I mentioned my 30 Days of Holiday series.  I’ve been doing this series for a couple of years and I’m excited to bring it to you again this year.  From now until Christmas Eve I’ll be sharing loads of holiday inspiration with you including the 2016 Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour.  This is the second year for the tour and over next 3 weeks I’ll be joining an awesome group of bloggers to share our fun and festive holiday homes with you.  Stay tuned because the tour starts Wednesday, Dec. 30th.

Today I’ve got a fun post, all about holiday gift baskets.  During the holidays, gift baskets can be a fun gift to give especially for that hard-to-buy-for person.  I also thing gift baskets are great for family gifts too.  If you’re looking for a creative gift, follow these tips that will help you create the perfect holiday gift basket.

Holiday Gift Basket Tips

♦♦♦

CREATE A THEMED BASKET

It’s easy to build a themed gift basket if you think about the hobbies and activities someone loves. Fill a basket with art supplies for someone who love to draw or paint.  Or create a book lovers basket filled with new books, a throw blanket and a pretty tea-cup.  A holiday themed gift basket can be just about anything you can think of so let your imagination soar.

USE A FUN & FUNCTIONAL CONTAINER

One of the things I love most when creating a gift basket is finding a unique container.  Any item that can hold things is an option for a container.  How about a vintage urn filled with a candle, design magazines and small decorative tray for someone who loves design? Or stuff a pair of cozy slippers with beauty products as a ‘pamper yourself’ gift basket.  When I’m building a basket, I always find my container first and then find items to fill it.

FILL YOUR BASKET WITH FUNCTIONAL and FUN ITEMS

What you put in a gift basket is key to making it great.  Fill your container with a mix of functional items, fun items and something unexpected.  If I were creating a gift basket for a man I might use a leather tray as the container and fill it with socks, beer and a collection of movies or video games.  And if my basket was for someone who loves fashion, I’d fill a cute tote bag with jewelry, a scarf and fashion magazines.

Holiday Gift Basket Idea

USE A DECORATIVE FILLER TO FILL YOUR BASKET

Once you have your container use a fun filler to prop your gift items up.  Mix metallic and plain shredded paper or use fabric and linens in a food or drink basket.  And I love using wrapped candy like peppermints to fill a basket at Christmas.

tip:  create your own shred by running colored paper through your home paper shredder

ADD A SWEET TREAT

Don’t forget to add a sweet treat to your gift basket.  Put candy canes in a cocktail themed basket (they can be used as drink stirs) or add a jar of holiday chocolates to a baking themed basket.

Holiday Gift Basket Idea

via Style Me Pretty

PUT A BOW ON IT

Naturally if you want to hide the contents of your basket you’ll need to wrap it in a decorative bag or paper.  If not, tie a bow around some of the items or on the container to make it festive.  And don’t get a fun gift tag to finish it off.
