Artistic Wall Decor: Watercolor Wallpaper

Watercolor Floral

When I shared my 2015 Design Trend Forecast a couple of weeks ago, one of the trends I mentioned was watercolor florals.  Now I’m seeing another watercolor concept making a wave in the design world–watercolor walls.

Wallpaper has come back into vogue after years of being on the design taboo list.   Wallpaper designs have become artistic and bold, and are being used to set the tone of a room versus just serving as a backdrop.

The creative side of me loves the color and abstract feel of watercolor walls but my traditional design side is not so sure.

This watercolor wall is designed with lots of white space surrounding the color which helps me embrace it.  And I actually love the idea of a dramatic wall like this used as the backdrop for a party setting.

I a child’s room or nursery, I love the idea of watercolor wallpaper to infuse color.  This ceiling is so fun and unexpected and would be great stimulation for a baby.

I don’t know if I could live with watercolor wallpaper behind my desk space.  While I love the print, the combination of wallpaper and other wall decor would feel a bit too busy for my eye.

The subtle colors in this wallpaper are one of my favorites.  I love how it gives that wall space energy but doesn’t overpower or take away from the artwork.  Subtle patterns like this would definitely work with a traditional design style.

I’m all about color in the bedroom but the idea of a watercolor wall where I sleep doesn’t seem relaxing.  The visual movement that this wall has makes me feel uneasy.

Now here’s a watercolor application I love.  Hung in sections and framed in molding, the wallpaper takes on a more elegant versus artsy feel.  I love how it becomes the artwork for the room!

So what do you think, is watercolor wallpaper something you could embrace?
