Home Decor Patterns–What’s In and What’s Out for 2015

2015 Trends

I shared the hot design trends for 2015 here  and the 2015 Color of the Year here, and now I’m going to give you a look at the patterns that will be hot in 2015 as well as those that are no longer in vogue.

2015 Hot Trends

I’m so happy to say that many of favorite patterns are a hot design statement in 2015, and I’m really glad that a few over-used and over-exposed patterns have finally run their course and are on their way out.

WHAT’S OUT…

CHEVRON

I must admit that I jumped on the chevron band wagon like most everyone else.  Over the last few years, chevron patterns appeared on bedding and pillows, became a signature statement in rugs and when it came to creative paint treatments, chevron was the design of choice. I’m glad to see more creative pattern options trending this year which will energize the entire home decor industry.

OMBRE PATTERNS

When it came to painting furniture and diy projects, ombre color patterns were the ‘it’ paint detail in 2013 and 2014.  It will be nice to see a fresh, new paint treatment take over this year.

SOLID COLORED ACCENT WALLS

I remember when painting an accent wall in your home seemed like a bold move. Well, the trend in wall paint is to go neutral and use a decorative wallpaper is you want to punch up a wall.

I think the list of pattern trends that are down trending in 2015 is nothing too unexpected.  Design styles have become bolder and more dynamic over the last couple of year and that pattern trends are finally catching up.

WHAT’S IN…

OVERSIZED FLORAL PRINTS

Large scale floral patterns may not be everyone’s cup of tea but boy are they great to add pattern and energy to a room.  I’m not afraid to use a larger floral pattern in floor length curtains or as well a paper but even in smaller doses oversized floral prints are so dynamic.

GEOMETRIC PATTERNS

As a contrast to floral patterns, expect to see lots of geometric patterns in the market this year.  From painted walls to textiles, these graphic patterns can be a great accent in a room or the focal point.

NAVAJO PATTERNS

Ethic and Navajo patterns are hot this year and are giving people a new pattern option to decorate with.  Rugs are ideal of Navajo prints but you’ll also see this style of pattern in artwork, on furniture and in textiles.

NATURE

Does nature ever go out of style?  Not really, but some years it makes a stronger impact in home decor than others.  2015 is all about natural designs on decorative accessories, wallpapers, fabric and artwork.

KALEIDOSCOPE PATTERNS

This is probably my least favorite of the hot pattern trends for the year.  While I love a colorful pattern, kaleidoscope prints are be a bit dizzying if used in large doses.

GINGHAM

Gingham has to be one of my all-time favorite patterns, especially for spring and summer.  What I love most about it is that it looks great in any color combo and in any size.  It’s also a pattern that can look good with modern, traditional or country decor.

A few other trending and still hot patterns you’ll see include animal prints and black and white–two of my all time favorites.

So what do you think–are you glad to see chevron down trending?  And, of course I’d love to know which of the hot pattern trends are your favorite!

I am trying to incorporate blue in my home. I’m a earth tone gal but for what ever reason, I have a blue bug, specifically blue and white. Those cups are darling. Thanks for sharing.

    Shelly,
You knew I wouldn’t be able to resist commenting. Yea, to the end of Chevron. I have been so over that pattern. I plan to change my “stylized” chevron wall paper in my office/craftroom very, very soon. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on current trends.
