Let’s Get Crafty: No-Sew Stripes and Leather Cosmetic Bag

Slide1

The other day I was switching handbags from a leather piece to something with more spring style.  As I was doing that I realized how unorganized the contents of my handbag were.  I had items floating around in the bottom of my bag and stuff jammed in the pockets.  Time for a fix and a quick diy.

Over the years I’ve found that the best way to keep my handbag organized is to have several cosmetic bags or pouches to hold all the little things.  Since my current stash hoard of cosmetic bags wasn’t moving me, I decided to get crafting and make a couple of new pieces.

I just happened to have a couple of plain canvas pouches and a piece of leather on hand and knew exactly what to do with them.

First I taped off a stripe pattern on each bag and then used multi-purpose black acrylic paint to paint stripes.

The larger pouch needed a little extra something and that’s where the leather came in.

I purchased the leather piece at Hobby Lobby and it was the perfect size for the larger pouch so I didn’t have to do any measuring or cutting.  I folded the leather piece in half, punched small holes along each side and used a heavy-duty thread to stitch the sides together.  Once the sides were stitched I slipped the leather piece over the bottom of the larger canvas pouch and glued it in place using Unique Stitch Fabric Glue.  The small pouch has stripes only.

For a little more style I added a black tassel to the large pouch~

I love how my new cosmetic bags turned out and really love that my handbag is now totally organized.
