Look What $50 (or less) Will Buy You

As a designer, I’ve always looked for great deals for my clients, trying to give them a lot of look for a little money.  Over the past few weeks as I shopped stores and on-line sites, I’ve uncovered some really fabulous deals on home accessories.  These aren’t plain and simple accessories, these are pieces with lots of style and panache.

Accessories are the icing on the cake when it comes to decorating your home.  Stylish accessories are what turns and ordinary looking decor into a design dream.

If you’re looking to update your home, on a budget, check out these stellar accessories, all under $50.00!

Vases and ceramic containers can be used in so many ways when it comes to decorating your home.  I love displaying a collection of  vases in a bookcase or  on top of a console table.  The Hive Vases from West Elm are priced between $24 and $34 and will add both color and texture to your accessory groupings.

When it comes to giving a solid color sofa or bedding a high-end look, decorative pillows are the go-to accessory.  Look for pillows with down filling for the most sumptuous look and always use colors and patterns that you love. This gorgeous Pom Pon Pillow is handmade and available from SimplydivinebyJoann via Etsy.  $30.00

Don’t just think large-scale when it comes to accessories, make sure to incorporate smaller  pieces into your decor to create interesting and balanced arrangements.  The ceramic owls from West Elm are the perfect accent on a nightstand, foyer table or even a vanity counter and are a great price at $9 and $16.

I think every home needs candlelight and beautiful candleholders to place the candles in.  These porcelain hurricanes will work with any design style and can even be used as part of your outdoor decor.  Small available for $19 and large $49, from West Elm.

I love Buddha’s and this all-white sitting buddha from Z Gallerie is fab.  A piece like this is the perfect accessory for a bookcase or tabletop.  And for $39.95 this piece will really elevate your decorative statement.

Coffee tables and dining tables call for a decorative bowl like this one.  Sit a piece like this on top of a stack of books on the coffee table or fill it with flowers on the dining table for high impact.  And, you’ll never believe it’s only $20, from Pier 1.

Everyone that has a decorative tray in their home raise their hand!  And, everyone who doesn’t needs to rush to the nearest Crate and Barrel and pick up this Artesia Tray for $29.95. Trays can be used on just about any table or counter surface in your home and will add depth and dimension, along with style.

Adding unusual artwork to your home is one of the easiest ways to give it personality and flair. And, groupings for related images make an art collection seem more expensive and high-end.  I love these Framed Vintage Chair Prints from Pottery Barn and at $49 for the set of 3, this is definitely value for the money.

If you’re looking to add a stylish trend item to your home this season, look no further than this hand-carved wood vessel.  It can be used to hold anything, but I’d love to use it as unique container in an office or creative space. Or how about holding rolled up face towels in a bathroom?  They were such a hit at Pottery Barn that the small is sold out, but the large size is a great value at $34.99.

Wall sconces, whether lighted or candle, add so much style to a home.  Flank a piece of artwork with sconces or place a pair along the side of a mirror.  When looking for sconces, mirrored backs on this one from Ballard Designs will bring added style to your decor…all for $49 bucks!

So you know I love vintage pieces, especially ones that have been updated with a little paint and tender loving care.  This collection of vintage wall frames offers up so many decorating possibilities.  I love them as a collection by themselves or mixed among framed pieces of art.  They are the perfect statement to hang along a staircase wall or in an office.  For $38 this entire collection can be yours, available from KristinandJenney via Etsy.

Unique frames are on my shopping list for the upcoming I Love Thrifting shopping event, spearhead by the fabulous blogger and designer, Rashon Carraway of Mr. Goodwill Hunting.  Check out his ILoveThrifting website for all the details!

Wow, wow, wow!  Aren’t these vase gorgeous?  Glass vases are an essential element of any home decor collection, and vintage inspired etched pieces like this add regal elegance to any tabletop. Glass vase make great flower containers or candleholders.  I even love them in a bathroom, filled with soap bars. These man and woman silhouette vases are on $34.99 from Ballard Designs.

And finally, another stylish pillow, this one from CB2, is the perfect accent for a side chair, chaise lounge or sofa.  The abstract design and mix of colors in this Streak Pillow will brighten up your home is a flash, especially at $19.95…buy two!

As you can see, accessorizing your home with style and flair does not have to cost a fortune!
