The Bedroom Reveal | Fall 2019 One Room Challenge

It’s hard to believe that six weeks ago the One Room Challenge started and now we are at the finish line with reveal day.  The last 5 weeks have been a blur with lots of projects completed as we transformed our master bedroom.  I am thrilled with how the room turned out and excited to share it with you today.  To get caught up on the progress up to today, click the links at the end of this post.

Before I share all of the pretty pictures, I want to remind you of where the room started.  We moved into our townhome about two years ago and while I’ve gotten most of the house decorated, our master bedroom was a bland box.  We purchased the armoire when we lived in Seattle and after moving to Atlanta we painted it black. The bed, dresser and bamboo nightstand were purchased here in Atlanta.

Here are some before photos of the room (yikes)….

And in five weeks the room was transformed into this this beauty…

5 Minute DIY Facelift | An Easy Furniture UpStyle

Upholstered Bench DIY Makeover by ConfettiStyle

Never in a million years would I classify myself as a master DIY’er.  I do love to make things by hand, enjoy crafting and do take on a DIY project every now and then.  My favorite DIY projects are the ones that can be completed in a flash and don’t take a lot of manual labor.

The last few weekends I’ve tackled a few DIY projects around the house and all of them took about 5 minutes or less to complete.  I’m sharing one of the makeovers with you today.

This project was the transformation of a bench for the foot of the bed in our guest bedroom.  I bought this bench at one of my favorite flea markets about two months ago.  It’s been sitting in the bedroom ever since just waiting for a new look.  Upon inspection, the bench had a sturdy frame, classic lines and was priced right at less than $60. The fabric was the only negative.  It was soiled and worn in a few areas, and the color looked something like split pea soup.  I knew that all it would take to give the bench a facelift was new fabric and some minor touch-ups to the stain finish.

Here’s the before….

And here’s the after!

I purchased this fabric from my friend and upholsterer Julie, before she moved to Florida.  At the time I didn’t know what I was going to use it for, I just loved the design and the color. I mean after all, red is my favorite color!

Upholstered Bench DIY Makeover by ConfettiStyle

One day I was in the guest bedroom and looked at the bench and something dawned on me.  My red chinoiserie floral fabric would be perfect!!! I already has a couple of red elements in the room and the blue in the floral pattern worked great with the blue bedding.  I’m not sure who makes this fabric or what the design is called. If anyone knows the manufacturer or fabric name let me know and I’ll update the post.  I also found a similar fabric here.

Once the old fabric was striped off, I gave the foam a spritz of Febreze and then re-upholstered the top with my new fabric. It literally took me 5 minutes and the bench had a fabulous new look.  Isn’t she pretty?  I just love the way the bench looks now.  It’s the punch of personality the room needed.

I’ll be sharing the full guest bedroom soon but have a few more finishing touches to add. Stay tuned!

Stylish Upholstered Benches Under $200

Happy hump day friends!  A week or so ago I shared the 5 Most Versatile Decorative Accessories You Can Own. Today I’m sharing another one of my must-have decor pieces–an upholstered bench.  I’m a big fan of decorating with upholstered benches because they such a versatile piece of furniture.

I love placing a bench at the foot of the bed especially in a guest bedroom where adding full-sized chairs might not be an option. Tucking a bench under a console table in a living room is also one of my favorite design touches.

And when it comes to budget friendly decor, an upholstered bench is a great way to add style without making a big investment.  To prove my point, here are 6 stylish upholstered benches all under $200.

New House Diary: Master Bedroom Design Plan

New House Diary--Master Bedroom Design Plan by ConfettiStyle

Hi friends.  I’ve decided to start a new series here on the blog called New House Diary.  The new series document the decorating journey of our new home.  I’ll be sharing the design plans as well as before and after photos so you can see the spaces come to life.  I’ve already shared the design plans for the office  and the living room and today I’m sharing the plans for our master bedroom.

We’ve been in the house for two months and are moving at a snail’s pace when it comes to decorating.  We have yet to hang artwork or curtains and we’re still waiting for our new sofa to arrive.  Fingers crossed it will be here next week!

When we moved, I made the decision to take my time decorating. That decision has been both good and bad.  The downside is that we’re still unloading boxes and trying to get closets, cabinets and drawers organized.  The positive thing is that taking my time is helping me make the right design decisions.

Here’s a look at our master bedroom the day we closed on the house.  The carpet was in desperate need of replacing and the paint colors were not at all appealing to me.

The bedroom is a good size but there aren’t many options when it comes to arranging the furniture.

Here’s the space plan for the room…

New House Diary--Master Bedroom Design Plan by ConfettiStyle

I want for the room to have a calm, sophisticated and warm look and feel so that’s what inspired the colors and design plan.

The walls are painted a soft grey, Whisper by Benjamin Moore and I absolutely love the color. All of the trim is BM Simply White (semi-gloss) and the doors are BM Black Satin also in semi-gloss.  I’ll be introducing darker grey through some of the accent fabrics the fabrics which will give the space more depth.

New House Diary--Master Bedroom Design Plan by ConfettiStyle

We already own most of the furniture for the room but are purchasing a couple of new pieces to complete the space. And I’ve got new linens and decor on my shopping list too.

Master Bedroom Design Plan…

New House Diary--Master Bedroom Design Plan by ConfettiStyleTo add dimension and visual interest to the neutral color palette, I’ll use patterned pillows and textured linens. The neutral foundation will also make it easy to  change the look seasonally, adding more color during the warmer months.

The plan is for velvet curtains and to use velvet on a bench that I’m having recovered.  Brass lighting will add a touch of shine and glam within the room.  I have one vintage brass lamp that I want to use on the nightstand and I’m hoping to luck upon a matching one at an antique or thrift store.

The pillows patterns I’m showing are the general direction that I want to go, using a plaid, floral and animal print together.

I’m planning to have our bedroom complete before Thanksgiving so stay tuned for the reveal.

Summer Bedroom Refresh–Chinoiserie Inspired

I’ve been thinking about giving our bedroom a refresh for a while now and I think I’m going to pull the trigger.

This is the current look of the bedroom–a mix of wood, black & white accents and pops of color.

ConfettiStyle Spring Bedroom Refresh7

ConfettiStyle Spring Bedroom Refresh6

My love affair with blue and white has me thinking of a look that incorporate navy, black, white and pops of color.

Here’s the Chinoiserie Inspired inspiration board I came up with…

Summer Bedroom Refresh .001.jpeg.001

Since the black armoire and chair will be staying, I need to find a duvet cover that can tie the navy and black together.  About a month ago I spotted a Ralph Lauren set at HomeGoods but decided to pass on it.  Now I can’t get it out of my mind.  I’ve been searching for it again but so far I have only found  it in a king size and we need a queen.  The pattern is called Tamarind and I did find it on Amazon (more expensive) so if I don’t have any luck at HomeGoods I have another option.

When it comes the accessories, I’m planning to change the black drapes to a dark navy and I’m  looking at this pink pillow…

and some chinoiserie inspired artwork from Etsy.

Pagoda Print

Floral Print

And of course I’ll incorporate some blue and white ceramic pieces into the mix.

As always things may change before it’s all said and down but I’m excited to create a fresh new look for our space.

Style Your Nightstand–Tips & Inspiration

Styling Tips For Your Nightstand.001.jpeg.001.jpeg.001

One of the things I am always look for on Pinterest are beautiful nightstand images.  I love getting a glimpse at a person’s lifestyle and seeing how they style and decorate different areas of their home.

As a designer, I recognize that accessorizing a small, compact area like a nightstand can be more challenging than a larger living area for some people. So today I’m sharing the ingredients for styling your bedside table like pro.

4 Fall NightStand 2014

Your bedroom is the most private space in your home and the items you put on your nightstand should be a mix of personal and decorative decor.

♦♦♦

When it comes to pulling your items together, keep these style tips in mind:

Layers!  Unless you take a minimalist approach to decorating, you want to position items to create a layered look.  Layers will add the visual interest and help create a dynamic statement with you collection of items.  Vary the placement of items on the table surface, front to back and side to side and keep the scale of your lamp in mind when positioning items.

The Mix!  This is where style and function meet.  Accessorize with items you use on a daily basis (alarm clock, journal/book) along with items that are decorative.  Decorative items like small trinket trays, lidded boxes and containers can work as storage AND as a design statement. And personal items like books and picture frames will add a personal feel to the decor on your nightstand.

♦  The Background!  Even if you have a wall decor piece hanging over your bed, don’t forget about the wall space directly behind the nightstand.  Hanging a mirror or piece of artwork over your bedside table is a great to build up the impact for the overall vignette.  You can even lean pieces of art or other flat decor against the wall like I did at Christmas one year to enhance the layered look of your decor.

2014 Bedroom Decor (42) copy

Softness! A soft element like flowers or greenery can add an air of energy and life to the vignette.

ConfettiStyle Spring Bedroom Refresh8

Keep it Fun! And finally, as you go about decorating your nightstand, throw in an unexpected object to add personality and flair.

Nightstand Styling Inspiration

In addition to the tips above, I also wanted to serve up some visual inspiration for you. I went virtual shopping at Z Gallerie and put together two inspiration boards that pull all the elements together.

It’s no secret that I one of my favorite color combinations is black, white and gold and Z Gallerie as some beautiful decorative pieces that will work great in a bedroom.  This look is bold, dramatic and super chic!
