The Best Christmas Tree Scented Candles

The Best Christmas Tree Scented Candles

When we lived in Seattle I was all about natural Christmas decor.  Every year we’d go to a Christmas tree farm to cut down a tree. And I would drape fresh garland on the mantel, along the staircase and around the front door.   Despite all the needles I had to sweep up, I loved the smell of fresh greenery at Christmas.

When we moved to Atlanta, we decorated with a fresh tree for a few years but it wasn’t the same. The tree dried out faster and the fragrance was never as good.  Fifteen years ago we made the switch from real to faux decor and I found other ways to bring a Christmas scent into our home.  Candles were the answer!

Here’s a round up of my favorite Christmas Tree scented candles that will make your home smell like a fresh cut tree.   And in case you’re wondering, I’ve burned every candle on my list so they are all ConfettiStyle approved!

My Favorite Christmas Candles

Williams Sonoma Winter Forest ($19.95)–Like all of the products from Williams Sonoma, this Winter Forest candle has a long-lasting scent and burns clean (none of that soot build-up). And at $19.95 this candle is a great gift basket item.

Bath and Body Works Fresh Balsam ($24.50, sale $14.50)–There are so many great candle scents from Bath and Body Works and the Fresh Balsam is definitely at the top of my list.  The smell is amazing and the price (currently on sale for $14.50) makes it a great value for the size.  I buy this candle in multiples and burn it all the way through February when it’s still cold out.

Thymes Fraiser Fir ($50.00)–When it comes to Christmas Tree scents, this candle is pretty legendary.  It’s a little more expensive than the others but the quality and fragrance make it well worth the price.  And if candles aren’t your thing, I also recommend their fragrance mist and diffuser.

Illume Balsam and Cedar($28.00)–I love the collection of Balsam and Cedar candles from Illume.  The scent is wonderful and they sell classic jar and tin candles as well as decorative containers like mercury glass.

Nest Birchwood Pine ($41.96-affiliate link)–Nest candles are one of my go-to luxury gift items.  The jars are beautiful and the Birchwood Pine fragrance is soft but strong at the same time.

Aunt Sadie’s Tree In A Candle($21.00-affiliate link)–I discovered this candle when I had my home decor store.  The retro packaging is what initially drew me to the line but once I burned a candle,  I was totally sold.  The scent is awesome and the candle burns really clean.

My Take On The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale {and what I bought}

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Have you been reading the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale recaps that have been popping up on blogs lately?  For some, the Nordstrom sale is a big deal…a really big deal.

Nordstrom is based in Seattle and I lived and worked near their flagship store for 16 years. I’d anxiously await the first day of the sale and would take the day off from work to go shopping.  Back then the idea of buying pre-season items at discounted prices thrilled me.  Today…not so much.

Moving to Atlanta where summer temperatures can last well into September, I’m in no hurry to buy fall and winter items early.  So now I shop the Anniversary Sale in a different way.  I buy fashion accessories that I can wear year-round,  I stock up on basics like tees and  I take advantage of the deals on cosmetics.  And to keep my gift closet fully stocked, I buy a few gift items too.

I did spent some time on the Nordstrom website and spotted a few things I liked.  Then I made a visit to the store to see the items in person and make my purchases.  Wanna see what I bought? Check it out below…

WHAT I BOUGHT AT THE NORDSTROM ANNIVERSARY SALE

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and What I Bought

I love a Long Open Front Cardigan and this one is a classic, light weight style that can be worn year round. During summer I’ll wear the cardigan with a tank and in the winter with a long sleeve tee. The cardigan is available in 7 colors and is a deal at just $49.90.

Every woman needs a basic cross body bag like this Pebbled Leather Crossbody Bag ($78.90).  It’s a great size of daily use or travel and I love the roomy interior and outside zip pocket.  Available in black and chino brown.

What’s not to love about this black and white striped Monogram Stripe Tote?  Anything monogrammed is a winner in my book and the size of this tote makes is perfect for work or weekend.  It’s available in red, green, blue and black with white stripes.  $31.90

All of a sudden I’m into these modern necklace styles so I bought this Golden Crossing Necklace which is on sale for $35.90.  I think it will be perfect to wear with tees and sweaters and will also look great under a blazer.

I’m loving the ruffle sleeve trend that is happening right now so this Bell Sleeve Cozy Fleece Pullover was a must have.  The simple styling makes it easy to dress the top up or down and I loved the $39.90 price tag.  And there are 11 colors to choose from. I’d recommend picking up a basic color like black or grey along with a fashion color like olive or burgundy.

I always keep candles in my gift closet so I bought the Voluspa Maison Blanc Two-Wick Candle Set.  I’ve been a fan of Voluspa for year and for just $29.50 this is a great gift item.  p.s.  break the set up and you’ll have three gifts instead of one

These Floral Drop Earrings are so pretty in person and I just couldn’t resist them.  Their from Bauble Bar and the colors and 3-d detail are what makes them so special. $48.00.  Also available in a solid pink.

If I had to choose just one candle to live with for the rest of time it would be the Votivo Soziety Soy Wax Candle in Red Currant.  The scent of this candle is amazing and it is one of the cleanest burning candles on the market.  The Nordstrom sale is a great time to stock up and save. $21.90

I usually wear MAC eyeliner and buy my lip gloss at one of the big box stores but I wanted to try the Stila Stay All Day Liner & Lipstick  after spotting them online.  The eyeliner is fantastic and I love the tip which it easy for the eyeliner to glide on.  The lipstick has nice coverage and nude pink color is very wearable by lots of skin tones.  $20.00

You can shop the entire anniversary sale here.

DIY Holiday Gift Idea: Mason Jar Matches

DIY Mason Jar Matches by ConfettiStyle

During the holidays I always keep a couple of candles on hand for last-minute gift giving.  Candles are one of my favorite gifts to give but sometimes I want a little something extra to go along with the candle.

As I’ve been out and about Christmas shopping, I’ve seen lots of cute jars filled matches.  I immediately thought about what a great gift matches would be paired with a candle.  And then, like all crafters and DIYers the thought of making my own Mason jar matches popped into my head.

A quick trip to the store to gather supplies and in no time flat I had created this sweet candle gift set.

Here’s what you’ll need to create your own DIY Mason Jar Matches…

Supplies

Mason jar (I found mine at Hobby Lobby)
sandpaper (this will make lighting candles even more convenient)
strike-anywhere matches
hot glue gun
candle  (one of my favorite holiday scents)
gift tag or sticker
twine or ribbon

Instructions

Take the lid off of your Mason jar, and use it to trace a circle on the sheet of sandpaper.
Using your hot glue gun, glue the sandpaper to the lid of the Mason jar.
Fill your jar with the matches, trimming down to size if necessary. Tip: It is important that the matches you use are labeled strike anywhere, or they will not ignite on the sandpaper.
Tie a bow on the Mason jar and add a decorative sticker or gift tag.

Girlfriend Gifts

Feeling Groovy Trinket Tray

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I had already begun doing some Christmas shopping.  I hate to wait until the last minute when the items have been picked over and store shelves are bare.  One category of gifts that I tend to buy early is girlfriend gifts.

Finding that special gift for a girlfriend can sometimes be challenging so my method for selecting the perfect gift is to tap into that persons style.  Think about the colors the person wears, the items they decorate their home with and their passions in life.  When you look for gifts that connect to a person’s lifestyle and soul, you’ll always find the perfect piece.

Here’s a round-up of gifts that I love and that I think my girlfriends would love too.

A cute little Trinket Dish  like this one is great for all the stylish friends on your list.

These chic Stone Stud Earrings  are for the fashionistas in your life.

My go-to gift for girlfriends or anyone for that matter is Candles and I just love this little collection from Voluspa.

Entertaining: Winter Entertaining Tips

Slide1

Winter entertaining is tough. There are no patios to lounge on or pools to sit by, plus you’re wiped out from hosting countless holiday parties.  Despite the cold, planning a party during the winter can be just as easy as planning a party any other time of the year.  A winter party requires a warm and welcoming atmosphere, decor that fits the season and food that fuels the soul.

I’m here to inspire you with some tips (and resources) on pulling together a winter party that will make your guests feel warm, welcomed and at home.

Cranberry Ice Bucket

 Let the party planning begin…

TIP #1:  Serve Soothing Cocktails

To knock the chill out of the air, serve cocktails that provide a soothing feel for your guest.  Take advantage of winter foods like pomegranates and apples and blend drinks with flavors like caramel, mulled wine or grand marnier. You can also serve classic cold weather beverages like hot chocolate and irish coffee.  And when it comes to serving drinks, choose colored glasses over clear drinkware because it will add a sense of warmth and coziness to the cocktails and the decor.

Caramel Apple Martini / Ombre Stemless Wine Glasses

TIP #2:  Plan Hearty Party Food

There’s nothing better than comfort food on a cold day to help you forget all about the sleet and snow swirling around outside.  A winter party calls for hearty party foods like a carving station, beef sliders, fall fruits and comfort soups.

Use wood platters and cheese boards in a variety of sizes and styles to serve finger food and to add richness and texture to your buffet or dinner table.  I also suggest adding a natural touch to your food displays by using leaves and foliage from the yard (washed of course) to accent serving plates and platters.

TIP #3:  Decorate with Seasonal Colors and Textures

Two of the key components in creating beautiful decor for a winter party are texture and color.    Give flower arrangements a winter feel is by using different shades of a single color and mixing in different textures of greens and berry branches.   To save money, buy your flowers and then snip the greens and berries from the yard. And don’t forget to use flower vases that add texture and enhance the decor of your winter party theme.

TIP #4:  Create a Cozy Table

You know I always recommend layering your table for any party, but for winter entertaining this becomes even more important.  I recently discovered stainless steel charger plates and think they are the perfect cool accent to a winter table.  The silver finish will add a visual highlight to your table without making the table feel too cold and impersonal.  White plates are ideal for winter entertaining because the food you serve will look richer against the white surface.

And don’t forget to have a party favor for your guest.  A small plant in a burlap bag can be used as part of the decor and is a great way to add texture to the table decor.

TIP #5:  COZY UP WITH CANDLELIGHT

The easiest way to create atmosphere for your winter party is through candlelight.  To make it easy when decorating, use a mix of candle holders in a variety of sizes, heights and finishes which will add to the layers within your tablescape or buffet setting.  Mix glass with metals and always keep scented candles in the gathering spaces and away from the food.

Don’t forget to place candles in the foyer and bathrooms to add warmth and ambience throughout your home.

 Slide6

Finally, no party is complete without a sweet ending so set up a winter themed cake or dessert buffet to end your party in style.

Spring is just around the corner but until it arrives, why not celebrate winter with a party.
