15 Design Elements I Love.001

We all have them?  Favorite design details that we want in our existing home or in our dream home.  Those special touches and design elements that speak to us and creates the personal retreat that makes a house a home.

A few months ago I shared with you that my dream home is a Cape Code style home on the water.  I’m constantly dreaming about what that home would look like on the outside and how I’d decorate it on the inside.   My approach to decorating would be to include all the elements that consistently appeal to me, many of which exist in my current decor, details I’m constantly drawn to on Pinterest or rooms that spot me when I’m flipping through design magazines.  My favorite design details are all elements that are classic and timeless but would still let me infuse my own personality and style into the decor.

Want to know what decor and design details I love? Here they are…

A little bit about me and My Dream Home!

How often do you get asked what you design style is, what style of home you love or where you eventually want to retire?  As a designer I get asked those questions often and thought I’d share a bit about my dream home with you today here on the blog.

To give you a bit of background, I was born in Oklahoma but moved to Washington state when I was around 6.  My dad worked for the government and his job took us to a small town in Washington called Moses Lake.  Moses Lake sits on the edge of a beautiful lake that has 120 miles of shoreline and is one of the largest natural freshwater lakes in the state.

Moses Lake Washington isn’t a terribly large city. According to the 2010 census, approximately 20,000 people call it home so you can only imagine how small it was when I lived there over 30 years ago.

Anyhow, living in a lake town instilled a love of water that has lingered with me my entire life.  I love swimming, the beach, boating, waterskiing (although I’m not great at it) and I even like fishing.

As an adult I lived in Seattle and then the hubby and I moved to Atlanta.  All of the homes we’ve owned have been traditional in style and none of them have been my dream home.

So what does my dream home look like you ask?

Well, my dream home is a Cape Cod style home sitting of the edge of the water with close access to a beach!

Ask and You Shall Receive…I Hope!

My friend and motivational coach Joyce Rennolds always tells me to cast my desires, hopes, dreams and wishes into the universe, because what you seek will come to you.  We’ll today I am letting the universe know that I want this seaside dream home.

Located in the beautiful and quaint city of Naples, Florida, this Mediterranean Villa has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathroom.

The climbing vines, limestone walkway and ceramic tile roof give this home a sense of comfort the moment you see it.

I love the casual elegance of the tongue and groove valulted ceilind in the family room, the iron and frosted glass chandelier and the carved fireplace mantle.  The home also has arched doorways throughout, which you get a peek of here.

The arched doorway leading from the hall to the kitchen softens the impact of all the hard surfaces.

This is my dream kitchen island.  Large granite surface, big enough to host food and drinks for a party!  I love the modern feel of the stainless stove hood paired with the european inspired paint finishes and tuscan slate floor tiles.

Every girl’s dream…a relaxing and soothing bathroom retreat, with a chandelier overhead.

Anyone who knows me well, knows that I love water and really love to swim.  I’d spend endless hours lounging and soaking in this gorgeous pool.  A pool like this calls for a signature cocktail…perhaps a Confetti Martini!

And a little something for the hubby…a private dock for his boat.

So Universe, if you’re listening, my seaside dream home and a boat for my guy, would make a fabulous 20th Anniversary gift!
