Gift Giving–DIY Halloween Candy Box

Handmade Halloween Candy Box6 copy

I may have mentioned before that my mom is part of group of women that get together every month to play POKENO. They bet pennies and at the end of the day all of the pennies are collected and put in a large jar.  Around Christmas time the group gathers the pennies they’ve collected throughout the year and buy non-parishable food.  Then they create gift bags filled with food and treats and take the bags to the local nursing home to hand out to the patients there.  This is a pretty major gesture since most of the ladies in my moms group are in their 80’s!

Since my mom is hosting the October  Pokeno party, I thought I’d send a box of candy to her so all the ladies could enjoy it at their gathering.  Of course I couldn’t send a store bought box of candy so I got busy making a crafting a custom candy box.

The Party of the Year–Halloween and more!

If you’ve been reading my blog for some time you know that every year we attend a Halloween party that my friends Suenette and Dan throw. Every year I get to indulge in the amazing Halloween décor they put up and every year there’s something new added to the mix. This year the duo outdid themselves and I must say their gathering is quickly becoming the Party of The Year.
To help you understand how magnificent the décor is I’ve grouped the photos into three categories…OUTSIDE, INSIDE and ENTERTAINMENT.  Yes, this year they added some entertainment (beyond all their crazy friends wearing crazy hats).
Enjoy and prepare to be amazed!
The OUTSIDE

This is what greets you at the front door.

All around the yard there are families of scarecrows enjoying themselves…
Suenette and Dan set up bails of hay with old barn wood slats to creating seating.  The iron sculpture in the middle is a fire fixture.

The covered car port houses the food and beverage tables and receives a decorative touch just like the rest of the house.

The menu included homemade chili served up in Halloween mugs that Suenette has collected over the years.

This crow family and sunflower stems was the centerpiece on the chili table.

The INSIDE
There are so many incredible vignettes set up inside the house that it hard to capture it all on camera.  These are a few of my favorites…
A Halloween tree sits on top of the buffet in the dining room and displays hundreds of Radko ornaments.  The pumpkin head ghost watches over all the come and go.

Every year Suenette and my friend Don create something magical on the dining table.  This year the display was amazing.  The branches filled up the back of the table and reached up to the ceiling.

The kitchen and keeping room get a bit more whimsical Halloween décor.
The living room is one of my favorite areas because of all the witches, ghosts and vampires and an amazing revolving Halloween tree.

As you move to the lower level of the house you find more awesomeness…

Even the cuckoo clock gets the Halloween treatment at this house.

The ENTERTAINMENT
Suenette and Dan’s party is always entertaining because everyone comes wearing a fun hat and after drinking the “recipe” folks become really entertaining.  This year we were treated to something really special, a fire performance by a flame thrower.  I tried my best to capture in on film.

Amazing right?
It was sad to see the Halloween party come to an end, but more excitement is just around the corner because Suenette and Dan do this all over again for their annual Christmas party.
I hope this post got you in the Halloween spirit.  Have fun tomorrow and don’t eat too much candy.

Halloween Hostess Gifts

I’ve been invited to a couple of Halloween parties, and never one to show up empty-handed, I have been on the look out for unusual hostess gifts. My search has taken me through many a store and all around the internet, but I think I have found a few great options to choose from.  Check out my choices below and let me know which is your favorite.

Black and Ivory Zig Zag bracelet from Amrita Singh.  Doesn’t every girl need a little bling to go with an outfit, even a Halloween costume?   $35.00

Halloween Cocktail Shaker.  So incredibly stylish, and the drink recipes are etched on the outside of the shakers.  $15.00

How yummy do these look.  What hostess wouldn’t love to get these Halloween Chocolate Covered Strawberries.  If I order these, I know I’ll have to get a box for myself too!  $24.99/6

My friend Carla is a girly, girl so she might really like this D L & Co.  Absolute Pocket Watch Perfume Compact.

This may be one of my favorite gift options—a black and white photo album from Rag & Bone Bindery.  And, it’s only $18.00

What about this black scalloped edge tray.  Who couldn’t use these, for Halloween and beyond.  Maybe if I get this, I’ll add a few Halloween cookies too.  For $12.95 this would make a great gift, don’t you think?
