The Inspired Room Coloring Book

You all know I love the whole adult coloring book trend which I talked about here and here.   And that I’m really excited that there are several coloring books coming out that are designed for home decor fans.  Well, just last week I was thrilled to receive a package in the mail from Melissa of The Inspired Room.   Inside the package was an advanced copy of her new home decor coloring book. (thanks Melissa).  #happymail

When I talked about The Inspired Room Coloring Book on the blog before, I had only seen images online and the description on Amazon.  I knew the book was going to be good but it is even better in person.

Unlike many other coloring books, Melissa designed the pages with images only on one side of the paper which makes the pages ideal for framing.  And each page is perforated so that it can easily be torn out and hung on a bulletin board or used for a creative projects.  The paper is thick which reduces he chance of ink bleeding through so you can use my favorite markers just as easily as pencils to color the images.

I’ve spent several evenings unwinding by coloring in the book and I have to tell you it’s addictive and relaxing.

The image below gave me the opportunity to envision what an emerald green secretary would look like.  I’m hoping to score one at an antique store and paint it green.

Isn’t this page of chair designs fun?

I used one of the pages to play around with a color story I’m working on for a design client.  I pulled one of the fabric swatches we’re considering and created an accessory plan using this accessory page from the coloring book.

Mother’s Day Gift Guide {from my favorite shops}

All that I am..

Mother’s Day is just around the corner and treating my mom to something special is the least I can do for all the wisdom she has shared with me,  all the support she’s given me, the thousands of hugs she surrounded me with and for all the love she’s shown me each and every day of my life.

When it come to giving you mom a mother’s day gift, there’s not right or wrong as long as it come from the heart and is given with love.  But in case you need a little help finding the perfect gift, I’ve pulled together a Mother’s Day Gift Guide with items from my favorite on-line or brick and mortar stores.

Guest Bath Update with Cutting Edge Stencils

Guest Bathroom Update (1) copy

Hi there!

I’ve got a sneak peek of a project I’ve been working on to share with you today.  I’ve been wanting to make some decorative changes to our guest bath, but didn’t want to spend a lot of money doing it. I gave myself a small budget to purchase new artwork and a few accessories and I also put my DIY skills to work making a new shower curtain using a stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils.

If you’ve never given stenciling a try, I highly recommend it. It’s an inexpensive way to decorate walls, fabrics, floors and even ceilings and makes updating your home decor quick and easy.

After looking through all of the Cutting Edge Stencil designs (so many great stencil designs), I choose the Drifting Arrows pattern.

Drifting Arrows Stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils

What I like about the Drifting Arrows pattern is the classic yet modern feel that it has–the style I wanted for the bathroom.

Guest Bathroom Update (33)

To create the shower curtain, I used a plain white shower curtain ($14.00) and paint I had in the garage.  The paint is Clark and Kensington and the color is Ace of Spades, in a semi-gloss finish.

Before I began stenciling I read all of the how to stencil info on  the Cutting Edge website and also watched some of the stencil how-to videos.  In my book, stenciling on a large piece of fabric is a bit more challenging than stenciling on a wall so here are a few tips I used that made the job easier:

1)  Iron your fabric before stenciling to ensure a smooth, wrinkle-free surface.

2)  Lay the fabric out on a hard, smooth surface.  I placed a drop cloth down and then placed a large piece of cardboard between the shower curtain and drop cloth.  The cardboard gave me a smooth surface and allowed the roller to move smoothly over the fabric.

3) Securely tape your stencil down using painters tape.  Because my stencil was fairly large, I made sure to tape the edges as well as the corners.

4)  Use a gentle hand when rolling on the paint.  This will reduce paint seepage under the stencil design.

Guest Bathroom Update (35)

It took me about 4 hours to paint the entire shower curtain and I love the way it turned out.  Now that the shower curtain is finished, the rest of the details for the bathroom are coming together.

Here’s a little sneak peek…

I’ve Missed It–Shopping at Anthropologie

Anthropologie1

It has been months since I’ve been to Anthropologie.  I try to pop in at least once a month to see what new gems they have but my summer travels and work kept me away.

I took a little time this past weekend to drop by the store (in hopes of starting a little Christmas shopping) and there were so many awesome items that I could hardly contain myself.

Woodstock, GA and a New Favorite Shop

Happy, Happy Friday!

Even though I don’t have any major plans this weekend (catching up on work) there are several things to be excited about.

1)  Word on the street is that Oprah is in town for the filming of the movie Selma, which she is also producing.  The movie is being filmed in downtown Marietta so I just might have to head that way to see if I can get a glimpse of her.

2)  I’m being featured on TerrysBlinds Designer Insights series and I’m thrilled about it.  I’ll share the full feature tomorrow.

3)  I don’t know if I’m ready to pull the trigger yet but we’re going to look at kittens.

4) and finally, I’ve got a great new store to share with you.

All good things!

A couple of days ago my dear friend Sheila invited me to lunch and a shopping tour of Woodstock where she lives.  Even though Woodstock is only about 30 minutes away from me, I’ve never visited the downtown area so I was excited to check it out.

Woodstock is located north of Atlanta and is a growing and developing community.  Over the last few years, the downtown area has been developed into a mixed use area with the most adorable homes, townhouses, shops and restaurants surrounding main street.

One of the businesses that Sheila took me to was the Leaning Ladder.  The store sells wine, vinegar and the most amazing selection of gourmet olive oils you’ll ever see.  If you love to cook this is definitely a place you want to check out.

Sheila also took me to several home decor/gift stores all of which were cute but there was one that really stood out to me.  Having owned my store for many years it’s hard to find a store that makes me take notice but LINDEN did that and easily made it onto my list of favorite shops.  Let me take you on a tour!

Linden--Woodstock (10)

Linden is  located in an old home that oozes of charm and character.  Laurie, the owner has filled each room with a wonderful collection of French and English Antiques, home accessories, unique lighting, original artwork and European Influenced Florals & Garden Plantings.

The store also has a great selection of tabletop and gift items.  I will definitely be going back to pick up a few of the white ceramic platters and plates.

I could go on and on with how great this store is but I won’t give it all away, you’ll just have to go check it out for yourself . And tell Laurie I sent you.

For those of you that don’t live in Atlanta, good news, you can shop Linden online!
