2011 COLOR OF THE YEAR

Pantone has spoken, and the 2011 Color of the year is HONEYSUCKLE!

I was thrilled when I read about the Color of The Year, not only because of how bold and dynamic Honeysuckle is, but because of how this color can make a room come to life and energize whatever it adorns.  Here are a few inspiring spaces that have been touched with a bit of Honeysuckle.

House Beautiful

I love how the honeysuckle pillows provide a vibrant pop against this camel sofa–classic yet modern.

As a backdrop, a toned down version of honeysuckle provides the right amount of depth and energy to give this room a warm, comfortable vibe.

Southern Accents

I love when a room makes a bold statement.  The honeysuckle walls combined with chocolate furnishings and creamy white accents make this room feminine without being too girly.  Even my husband said he could live comfortably in this room.

One of the hottest color combos is honeysuckle and lime green.  The black accents help to ground everything, without taking away any of the rooms energy.

Exquisite Furniture Design

Not a kitchen for the faint of heart.  After seeing this space, I’d paint my kitchen Honeysuckle in a minute.  And, isn’t that chandelier just darling?

Not only do I love Honeysuckle in home decor, I love the color in paper goods too!  Several years ago, I decided to develop a signature gift wrap for myself, combining Honeysuckle and Red.  Now, every time I give a gift, it’s wrapped in my signature colors, giving my gifts a real sense of personalization.

Here are a few photos of my wrappings.

So what do you think of the color Honeysuckle?  Does it lift your spirits?

THINGS I LOVE

Have you ever taken a moment to look around your home, only to realize that a specific design elements keeps appearing over and over again?  That my friends is a sign of “design love”.  Recently, I noticed that many of my purchased over the last year or so have been decorative items made of Mercury Glass.

I just love the antique, worn silver finish of mercury glass and how it adds an unexpected elegance to my decor.

Here are a few of my favorite pieces:

A grouping of these mercury glass votive holders sit on my coffee table.  I love to use them year round, but especially love the shimmering glow this time of year.

This mercury glass decanter sits on the side of my tub, filled with my favorite bath salts.

Both of these lidded jars sit on my bathroom vanity, atop an oval wood tray.  I just love how that make my everyday necessities feel special.

And, I have a few of these which will adorn my Christmas tree this year.

Do you have a favorite decorative element, that makes a statement in your home?

Tobi Fairley Works Her Magic

There’s nothing more that I love about interior design, than seeing an ordinary room transformed into an incredibly beautiful space.  And, leave it to one of my favorite designers, Tobi Fairly to work her magic and create one of the most incredible before and after re-do’s that I’ve seen in a long time.

What a stunning transformation Tobi pulled together for this traditional styled home.  I just love how she turned the living room into an inviting gathering spot, and how the mix of fabrics and patterns give the space a feeling of casual elegance.  And that kitchen….just amazing.  The polka-dot fabric used on the chairs, the banquette bench, and the re-design of the cabinets turned this kitchen into a stunner.  To see more of this homes transformation, check out the full article in At Home Arkansas, and to swoon over more of Tobi’s  beautiful design work, visit her website and blog, here.

THIS LITTLE LIGHT OF MINE

In one of my recent design workshops, I was telling the group that one of the essential decorative accessory every home needs is a “decorative lamp”.  I’m not talking about a lamp in a unique color, or with a colorful shade, I’m talking about a lamp that is decorative in shape, color, finish,  style and detail.  A lamp that really makes a statement.

Why a decorative lamp you ask?

We’ll to me, using an unexpected lamp as part of your decor is a great way to personalize your home…something every home needs!

Here are a few of my favorite “decorative” lighting fixtures.
