Product + Inspiration: Typography Letters

Decorating with typography letters can be a lot of fun.  As this craft turned decorative piece has gained popularity, you started seeing lots of designer incorporating letters into chic wall decor statements.  Now typography letters are being used in many different applications not only because they add a personal touch to decor but also because they are one of most budget-friendly accessory items you can buy.

Here’s a round-up of some of my favorite typography letters and inspiring images on how they can be used to decorate.

DIY Designer Notebooks {and getting a jump on handmade holiday gifts}

Slide1

Hello there!   I’m so giddy about my latest diy project and although it’s not revolutionary, it’s the kind of project that puts a big smile on my face.

After spending boat loads of money over the years buying fancy notebooks and journals, I finally decided to get crafty and make my own designer notebooks.

DIY Notebooks by ConfettiStyle1

Since I have a deep love for beautiful paper, this project centered around some of my favorite patterns, colors and designs.  I used geometric prints, damask patterns, leather and snakeskin designs and of course bright colors were part of the mix.

DIY Notebooks by ConfettiStyle7

The snake skin and embossed croco embossed papers below are actually sheets of vinyl that I found on sale at Michaels for .75 cents.

DIY Notebooks by ConfettiStyle

These diy notebooks were super simple to make and required just a few supplies:

*  Notebooks–most of the notebooks I covered I found at HomeGoods but I also covered Composition Notebooks which you can find at any office supply store, Wal-Mart or Target for around .50 cents.  The mini notebooks came from Ikea (2/$1.00). This Etsy shop also has a great selection of plain kraft notebooks.

*  Decorative paper–you can use scrapbook paper, thick wrapping paper, vinyl sheets and even pages from a book.  Most of my decorative scrapbook paper came from Micheals.

*  Permanent glue tape–I use my Glue Glider Pro which made applying the tape quick and easy–available from Amazon

*  Exacto Knife and Scissors

*  Blank Labels and Sticker Letters–available at Michaels

DIY Noteboooks by ConfettiStyle

How to:

To cover each book, open the notebook, lay it flat and trace the outline of the notebook onto the backside of your paper.  Cut the paper with your scissors.

Apply glue tape to the front of the notebook first and adhere your paper to the front cover.  Next, apply glue tape to the spine of the notebook and wrap the paper around towards the back.

Apply glue tape to the back cover of the notebook and secure the paper in place.  It’s that easy.  You can also cover the inside of the front and back cover if you want.

Finally, apply a label to the front of each notebook and add a sticker monogram to personalize it.

As an added detail, I UpStyled the larger notebooks with metal corner protectors.

I’m on a notebook making marathon because halfway through making a few for myself I realized what great handmade Christmas gifts they’d make.

Printable Art–My Love Note Designs

Slide2

Thank you for all the wonderful comments on our spring bedroom refresh.

Today I wanted to share a little more about the beautiful prints I used in the bedroom.  I knew I wanted to place a grouping of images on the wall next to the window and closet to my side of the bed.  You see that wall when you enter the room so I wanted to make an impact.  I also knew that whatever I hung I that wall would be hung in gold frames.

Since one of the goals for the refresh was to add more accents of gold into the space, frames were an obvious and easy solution.

ConfettiStyle Spring Bedroom Refresh12

All four of the prints I used are from an awesome Etsy shop called MyLoveNotedesigns.  The shop is run by Christina who personally designs all of the printable art, many which contain inspirational words and positive messages.  Christina opened her Etsy shop in 2014 after starting a family and leaving an accounting career and the corporate world behind.  Christina said she started designing her prints as a way to inspire and remind herself of what is meaningful in life and to personally connect with others.

ConfettiStyle Spring Bedroom Refresh9

The collection of prints I choose to use were perfect for a bedroom space and also allowed me to add a touch of personalization into the room.  The LOVE print is one of my favorite designs and gold foil is so pretty once printed.  The HEART of flowers couldn’t have been more perfect for our room with a black background and pink flowers.  I also choose a monogram print and love how Christina has added flowers to give the design a special touch.  The last design in the group reads All Of Me Loves All Of You and I love both the message and the delicate details of the design.

ConfettiStyle Spring Bedroom Refresh2

Once printed, I placed each image in a Ikea frame which I spray painted gold using Rustoleum Bright Coat Spray Paint (which happens to be my favorite gold spray paint)

ConfettiStyle Spring Bedroom Refresh22

I’ve purchased several printable images from Etsy in the past and I must say that the collection of designs that MyLoveNotedesigns offers is one of the best.  There are over 450 designs to choose from including gold foil, nursery designs, calendars, meal planners, expense trackers and weekly planners and most of the designs are $5.00 or less.  And, Christina also offers custom orders if you have a specific design in mind.

Because there are so many great prints, picking your favorites will be tough but you can use my list of top 10 to help you shop…

One of the design trends that I think will be around for a long time is decorating with typography!  Wall letters are a great way to personalize your wall decor and are fun to use when creating gallery walls.

There are a thousand and one DIY ideas out there using paper mache and wood letters that you can buy at the craft store.   A little paint, decorative paper or fabric can customize the look.

But if you’re looking for a something a little more special and unique, Etsy is the place to look.  While browsing the site recently I came across some shops that have taken the art of typography to a new level.

Slide1

1–I absolutely love the style of these wood letters from ViargoDemure.  The design is reminiscent of vintage metal signage letters but are crafted in wood.  The letters come in a variety of sizes and because they are unfinished, they can easily be customized to your liking.

2–What people are doing with pallets and reclaimed wood these days is just amazing.  SonOfWhale has crafted a collection of rustic yet refined letters that are perfect for bookcases, mantels or wall decor.  Because they use found materials, no two letters are alike which makes them truly special in my book.

3–If you’re looking for letters that really make an impact, check out JunkArtGypsyz.  They make a collection of metal letters that stand 24″ tall which would be fun for the top ledge of a cabinet or armoire.  And you’ll definitely want to check out their marquee letter and sign collection which is amazing.

4–RedCedarWoodcraft has taken a fresh approach to wall letters and makes these really fun letter wall shelves.  The letters are designed so that they can be hung on the wall and used to display books or accessories. These letters are great for decorating a child’s room and will work as the child grows and the decor changes.

5–When I had my store here in Atlanta, I use to buy from aluminum metal signs from GaugeNYC.  They have since expanded their product line to include all types of metal letter decor and jewelry.  Their free-standing metal letter are my favorite and can be used in so many ways.  I also love their numbers which I think are fabulous as table markers for a wedding or large dinner party.

Etsy never fails to deliver!  Stop by and check out these shops.

Did you get out and do any shopping this weekend? Maybe looking for a Mother’s Day gift like me?

If you were out and about you probably noticed that a lot of stores have spring sales going on now. It’s a great time to pick up spring fashion accessories, home décor accents and spring footwear.

If you follow me on Instagram (which I hope you do), you saw that I mentioned the buy one, get one 50% off accessory sale at Target. There are some really great pieces that would make fab Mother’s Day gifts.

How about a pretty scarf for mom ($14.99)…

I spotted several scarves and summer totes I wanted for myself but after getting the “not another handbag” look from the hubs I decided a trip on my own was in order so I’m heading back today to do some more looking.

Another store I popped into over the weekend was C. Wonder.  You all know I love that store!  They have their additional 50% off sale going on now and if you or your mom loves monograms you don’t want to miss this.

This monogram iPhone case is $24.99 less 50% and every letter is a different color combo.  I couldn’t pass up the ‘S’ since it was my favorite color combo–red, white and gold.

If you’ve wanted one of the classic C Wonder nylon totes, now is the time to snag one on sale.  Not all the sizes are on sale but the mini and Easy tote sizes are.  Mini–$44.99 and the Easy tote is $59.99 less 50%.  You can also get the bag monogrammed for an extra $10. What mom wouldn’t love this?

11 Design Details I’m Loving & that you can do in your own home

Slide1

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times, Design is in the Details.  And that’s one of the things I love about design.  The fact that you can take a basic ordinary architectural element, accessory, furniture piece or decorative element and use it to create something unique and beautiful for your home.  I’m working on a project that is requiring me to think about details and how they can be used to transform a space and save money at the same time.  With details on my mind I thought I’d share 11 of my favorite ideas, ideas you can use in your own home.
