Estate Sale Finds | My New Chinoiserie Pieces

Blue and White Estate Sale Finds by ConfettiStyle

I love shopping at antique stores and flea markets and every now and then I’ll hit up an estate sale.  Several times a week I’ll get an email from EstateSales.net notifying me of upcoming sales in my area.  The email tells me when a sale is happening and in most cases there are pictures of the items that are for sale.  A couple weeks ago a particular sale caught my eye and prompted me to scroll through the photos.

The photos showed the driveway filled with cast off furniture pieces and the basement  jammed packed with Christmas items.  I kept scrolling and landed on a photo of the family room where there were tables and tables of blue and white pieces.  It’s not unusual to see a few blue and white pieces at an estate sale but seeing loads of it got my heart racing.

Fast forward to the day of the sale, a Friday.  I woke up and was on the fence about going.  The sale started at 9:00 am and I had an appointment all the way across town at 10:00 am.  As I got dressed, I pondered whether or not to go and decided to stop by the sale for just a few minutes to check it out.

Fun & Festive 4th Of July Tablescape

4th of July Tablescape by ConfettiStyle

Don’t you just love the Fourth of July?  I sure do.  From burgers on the grill, time in the sun and the fireworks show, the 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays.  We’ve got a pretty laid back day planned and will be spending the day at my brother’s. Even though we won’t be home on the 4th,  I decided some festive decor was in order at our house.  I jazzed up our dining room with a fun & festive red, white, and blue tablescape and also decorated the sideboard.

Fun & Festive 4th Of July Tablescape

Pulling this tablesacpe together was pretty easy since I already owned everything I used to dress the table.  Like most of my tablescape designs, this 4th of July table is a mix of traditional and chinoiserie elements with lots of pattern mixing going on.  The focal point of the table is the centerpiece arrangement which is a grouping of blue and white ginger jars.  Using jars with different patterns adds lots of visual interest and gives the table an eclectic feel. And for a little contrast, I flanked the jars with a pair of tortoise hurricanes.  Chinoiserie and tortoise are a match made in heaven!

4th of July Tablescape by ConfettiStyle

The tortoise hurricanes are from Pottery Barn but are no longer available.  I did find a similar hurricane and listed the source at the bottom of the post.

The place setting I created is pretty classic.  I started with a solid red placemat and then layered a red and white buffalo check charger on top.  My vintage Blue Willow dinner plates are the finishing layer and area  great pattern contrast against the plaid.  I added the red salad plate and blue and white ceramic coasters to fill in around each pacesetting.  Both of these items were flea market finds. To add more blue and white to the table, I placed a blue and white table runner down the center of the table and used blue and white striped paper napkins next to each place setting.

I hung a grouping of festive paper fans over the sideboard mirror and flanked my favorite monkey dish with milk glasses vases filled with red roses. If you ever come across these paper fans pick them up because they are an easy way to add a dramatic punch to party decor.

What I Bought–My Thrift With Tyler Purchases

Happy Friday friends.  As you read this, I’m on the road head to Florida to set sail on your cruise.  To say I’m excited is an understatement because I really, really, really need the vacation.  I’ll be sharing my adventures over on Instagram and hope you’ll check in from time to time to see what I’m up to.  There’s a chance that we might be dodging hurricane weather so things might be more adventurous than I planned.

Anyhow, I wanted to pop and share what I purchased during the Thrift With Tyler event that I attended last Saturday.  In case you missed the highlights of the tour, you can read about it here.

In planning for the trip, I made a shopping list with the items I wanted to look for while we were shopping.   I was shopping for a bench for our guest bedroom, vintage scarves (because I’m kinda obsessed with them right now) and blue and white pottery.  I’m happy to say that I was able to check a couple of items off the list.

WHAT I BOUGHT–MY THRIFT WITH TYLER PURCHASES

This blue and white urn was one of my first purchases.   This piece came from the Marietta Antique Mall and was under $10.00.   The deep rich blue and flourish design are what caught my attention. II’m planning to use this in my office to hold a plant or orchid.

Another pottery piece that I bought was this octagon dish that also came from the Marietta Antique Mall.  I’m slowly starting to add a few colorful pottery pieces to my collection so I’m glad I found this.

I’ve shared my love for milk glass on the blog before.  I’m always on the hunt for new pieces to add to my Etsy shopand saw several pieces that were tempting.   I bought this beautiful pitcher at Woodstock Antiques & Consignment for under $10.00.  I’ve never seen this design before so that made for an easy buying decision.

Another top selling item in my Etsy shop are brass trays.  This rectangular tray came from Woodstock Market. The pretty details and petite size make it the perfect size for a vanity tray or desk accessory.

This square brass tray also came from Woodstock Market.  The etched pineapple design on the inside and pierced rim of the tray sold me.  I’m planning to add this to my shop unless I find the perfect spot somewhere in my house.

One of the most unique stops on the tour was Nancy’s Vintage Shop in Marietta.  This small shop had a lot of treasures and the minute I walked through the door I spotted this vintage handbag. I love shape and petite size and will definitely get lots of use from this bag.

The last two items I purchased came from Woodstock Market.  As I was walking around the store, I spotted one of the other ladies on the tour sitting on the floor looking through a basket.  Her excitement made me stroll over to see what was inside.  The basket was filled with vintage scarves, most priced between $3.25 and $6.00.  I dove right into the basket, right along side my new friend and came away with these two silk beauties.

I found some pretty great pieces, don’t you think?

The Thrift With Tyler event is typically held during spring and fall and I’m already looking forward to the next outing.

Thrifting For A Cause–Thrift With Tyler (part 1)

Thrift With Tyler 2018 by ConfettiStyle

If you think going thrift shopping with a group of 50 people would be daunting, think again.  When the thrift outing is part of the Thrift With Tyler event, you’re in for a whole lot of shopping fun.  After a couple years of not being able to attend due to conflicts, I scored a ticket for this highly anticipated yearly event. In addition to being a day of shopping fun, the event was an interactive fundraiser for The Georgia Trust, a great organization that works to preserve and revitalize historic homes and properties throughout Georgia.  Shopping for a cause–it doesn’t get much better than that!

We started the day at the Waiting For Martha Home in Vinings where we were treated to Mimosas and a lite breakfast.  I was excited to see some of my design friends and also got the chance to make new friends before we boarded the bus.

p.s.  I’ll be back on Wednesday to give you a little tour of the Waiting For Martha Home store and share a few of my favorite things.

Once we all boarded the bus, we headed out for our day of shopping.  Other than telling us we were headed north of Atlanta, Tyler didn’t let us know where we’d be stopping.  That added to the fun.   In total we stopped at 6 antique/vintage stores in Marietta and Woodstock.   The stores ranged from smaller shops and boutiques to large antique malls with multi-dealers under one roof.  There was definitely something for everyone when it came to shopping.

I’ll include a list of the stores at the end of the post but for now, just sit back and take a look at some of the goodies I saw.

THRIFT WITH TYLER GOES NORTH

I collect and buy ironstone for my Etsy shop and saw lots of great pieces.  This soup tureen was really stunning and had the most beautiful details.  It was really heavy so I passed on it because shipping it from my shop would have been costly.

When I saw this china cabinet, I imagined it painted a blog, vibrant color with wallpaper on the back wall.

Most of store we stopped at were having sales, many of which I think continue through the Memorial Day holiday.

Staffordshire dogs are in big demand right now.  This guy was large both in size and price.

The silver-plated toast rack is my one shopping regret.  It was a little more than I wanted to pay so sadly I left it for another day.

I love older things that people have used and cherished.  They have personality, character, and soul.  ~Anna Hillegass

If you’re in the market for vintage dinnerware, now is a great time to go shopping.  All of the multi-dealer antique malls we visited had tons of dinnerware sets for sale.

The set below was gorgeous!

Blue and white pottery continues to be a hot commodity and I’m seeing less and less of it in stores because it’s getting snapped up so quickly.  I did see a few nice pieces.

tip:  don’t pass up pottery pieces just because the lid is missing.  Ginger jars without lids are great to use as flower vases.

There was lots of vintage furniture and several people on the tour ended up buying some great pieces.

I wanted to buy this chair except is was a little rickety and really couldn’t be used for seating.  It would look great as an accent with a stack of book on the seat though.

THRIFT WITH TYLER GOES NORTH BY CONFETTISTYLE

Loved this unique curved bench.

Anyone else remember these wicker fan chairs from your high school prom?  They were a big hit in the 80’s.

Artwork was really popular with our group.  I spotted several pieces that I loved.  These set of two original oil paintings was just $23 and so pretty.

Can you believe all this goodness?  I snapped a ton of pictures so instead of overwhelming you with it all in this post, I be back later this week with part 2 of our adventure.  I’ll share the rest of what I saw while shopping AND what I ended up purchasing.  Now for what you’ve all be waiting for…

WHERE WE SHOPPED

In the Marietta/East Cobb Area

  1.  Marietta Antique Mall–this is a large store set up with multi-dealer booths.  The products range for true antiques and vintage to vintage reproductions and hand-painted furniture.
  2. A Classy Flea–This is a smaller multi-dealer store with a great selection of furniture and decor.  The store has been open since 1994 and just announced today that they will be closing their doors soon.  If you’re looking for some deals you’ll definitely want to check them out as they are have things on sale in anticipation of their closing.
  3. Fur Kids Thrift Store–this store is located across the parking lot from Marietta Antique Mall.  Its’s a small store but they have a nice selection of furniture, tabletop and kitchenware, lighting and accessories.
  4. Nancy’s Vintage Shop–this shop was a great surprise.  Nancy recently opened her doors and sells vintage clothing, jewelry and collectibles.  If you love vintage clothing and handbags you’ll definitely want to stop by for a visit.

In Woodstock

  1. Woodstock Antique & Consignments–I love this store.  It’s massive so plan on spending some time when you visit.  It’s a multi-dealer store with a great selection of products in every category.    You’ll also find new but made to look vintage items for sale.
  2. Woodstock Marketthis store is located across the street form Woodstock Antiques & Consignment and was my favorite stop on the tour. The store is huge and filled to the brim with goodies and the dealer spaces were organized and easy to shop.

Becoming An Expert Flea Market Shopper

My Recent Thrifting Finds–Thrill of the hunt!

Happy Thursday friends.  This week has flown by but as promised, I’m back to share my latest thrifting finds with you.  Last week the hubs and I shopped Scott Antique Market and I popped into one of my favorite flea markets.

At Scott, I stopped by to see ‘my guy’ as I affectionately call one of the dealers. His treasures aren’t displayed in a fancy way but are simply strewn across tables for you to rummage through. It’s definitely the thrill of the hunt in his space.

As I walked from table to table I didn’t see much at first but then I came across this blue and white jar.  It already own another one just like this and since they are both missing their lids I’m planning to use them as flower vases.

Another great find were these gorgeous English Ironstone transferware plates. I paid $15 for the set of 8 which were all in perfect condition. These will be perfect for a fall or Thanksgiving tablescape.

Thrifting Find by ConfettiStyle

These art deco Black Tiara Glass Candleholders were just $5.00. They will be fun to use with my black and white dinnerware when setting the table for entertaining.

.This last piece I scored at a flea market/thrift store I shop at often.  It was sitting outside with a couple of small tables stacked on top of it but it immediately caught my attention. Hello gorgeous bamboo table for only $30!!! The table was in great shape and just needed a quick cleaning. Right now I have it on my side of the bed as a night stand but I have a couple of other places it might work too.

Treasure Hunting At Scott Antique Market

I did something last week that I haven’t done in a very long time.  On Friday the hubs and I met up with my friend Montina and her husband JP at Scott Antique Market.  Guys, I haven’t been to the market is over a year and was so happy to carve some time out of my schedule to finally make it back.

Shopping Scott Antique Market is one of my favorite things to do.  The market is open in Atlanta the second weekend of every month and shopping it always leaves me inspired and lighter in the pocket book.  I did buy a few small items and spotted a couple of furniture pieces that might work in our house.

Let me show you the goodies I saw…

The Ones That Got Away | Thrifting Regrets From Round Top

We’ve all been there…shopping at a thrift store and coming across an item that grabs your attention.  You approach the item, give it a good once over and then rationalize the decision to purchase it or NOT.  The piece looks great, has so much potential and is priced right but the voice in your head says no.

You walk away.

You leave those amazing pieces behind and can’t stop thinking about the ones that got away.  That’s what happened when I was shopping during my trip to Round Top and the Hill Country.   I walked way!!

Before I show you the ones that got away, let me point out a few things…

  1. I consider myself a seasoned antique/vintage/thrift store shopper.  I can tell is a piece is quality and know if something is over-priced or priced right.
  2. One of my rules for thrifting is to buy it if you love it.  Even if you don’t have an immediate idea where something will go in your home or how you’ll use it, if you love it, you always find a spot.
  3. Another rule I have is to not overthink a purchase…if you gut says yes don’t let your mind talk you out of it.

So if I could click my heels and transport myself back in time, I would have bought these items when I was thrifting at Round Top…

What I Bought At The Round Top Antiques Market (and a few other places too)!

Round Top Antique Market--2017

Happy Friday friends.  As you read this the hubs and I are headed back to Atlanta with my mom in tow.  She’ll be visiting us for a week or so before heading back to Oklahoma.

I wish you could see our car….it’s loaded to the gills with luggage and the vintage finds I picked up at the Round Top Antiques Market and beyond.   If you’re wondering what I mean by beyond, here’s the scope.  In addition to shopping Round Top, my travel buddies and I, Marsha, Wanda and Sherry also stopped at antique stores, flea markets and Goodwill stores during our road trip.  It was a thrifters dream.

Before I show you some of what I purchased, I wanted to share a bit more about our trip.

We left Dallas at 6:30 am on Saturday morning and made the trek to Round Top.  Dallas to Round Top is a 3 hour drive so we had time to chat and plan our shopping strategy for the day.

Once we made it to Round Top we spent the day shopping then drove to Saledo, TX where we were staying the night.  We stayed at the Inn On The Creek which is an adorable bed and breakfast.  I share more about the inn next week but here’s a little glimpse of this charming spot.

On Sunday morning we left Saledo and headed to Waco for more shopping and finally made our way back to Dallas last Sunday evening.

Two days….lots of shopping and a whole lot of fun!

Now let’s get to the really fun stuff…what I bought.

If you remember from my previous posts, I had a list of items I was shopping for including ironstone, blue and white pottery, old design books and vintage jewelry.  Although I wasn’t able to find everything on my list, I did find some plus a few things I didn’t have on my list.

WHAT I BOUGHT IN AND AROUND THE ROUND TOP ANTIQUES MARKET…

I had pretty good luck in the ironstone category.  I found this pretty ironstone pitcher at a thrift store in Waco and it is in great condition.

Round Top Antique Market--2017

I’ve sold several ironstone gravy boats/creamers in my Etsy store recently and was hoping to find some new pieces to add to the shop.  This one has a pretty leaf and vine design on it and it was only $5.00.

Round Top Antique Market--2017

This 3-piece English ironstone sugar/creamer set was a great find at a Goodwill we stopped at.  And you won’t believe the prices–$5.49 for all three pieces.

Round Top Antique Market--2017

I found this large ironstone bowl at Round Top and love the softly scalloped edge.  It’s a great bowl for fruit or serving salads or pasta.

Round Top Antique Market--2017

Another Goodwill score was a set of Federalist  Ironstone cups and saucers.  I’ve never come across this brand of ironstone before but couldn’t pass up the set which was priced at $5.49.

Round Top Antique Market--2017

Round Top Antique Market--2017

There were two of these blue and white gravy boats but one had a chip so I only bought the one.   And it was less than $6.00!

Round Top Antique Market--2017

My friend Marsha grabbed this blue and white vase but offered it up to me.  #goodfriendssharetheirthriftingfinds

Round Top Antique Market--2017

I found these blue and white bread plates at another thrift store for just $1.99 each.  They are English transferware from Lochs of Scotland.

Round Top Antique Market--2017

One of the booths I stumbled upon a t Round Top had bins of vintage lace for $1.00 per bundle.  You know I had to add a few to my collection.

Round Top Antique Market--2017

I was excited to come across a dealer at Round Top that was selling design books for 50% off the marked price.  The books I purchased,  were published between 1993 and 2008 and cost $6.00 each.

Round Top Antique Market--2017

I spotted this beautiful silver-plated bowl in an antique store in Waco but it didn’t have a price tag on it.  When I took it up to the counter to check the price I was expecting them to say something like $48.  I was surprised and thrilled that it was only $12! #winning

Round Top Antique Market--2017

One of my favorite finds was this cute elephant planter/vase.  There were people around me when I spotted it so I played it cool and grabbed it when they weren’t looking.

Thrifting tip:  be ruthless in the pursuit of a unique treasures

Round Top Antique Market--2017

This cute plaid ice bucket and glass set (6 glasses) was a find at an antique store outside Ft. Worth.  What a fun set for someone to use for summer entertaining.

Round Top Antique Market--2017

These are just a few of the items I purchased on the trip.  I’m coming home with tree boxes full of goodies, most of which I’m planning on putting my Etsy shop.  I’ll be sure to let you know when the items are available.  If you see something you’re interested in, just leave me a comment and I’ll email you the price.

Before I sign off, I did want to share an unexpected find.

Last night we stopped by my cousins’ house.  I’ve been in her house many times but didn’t realized she was a blue and white collector.  She has some beautiful vases, ginger jars and a full set of Blue Willow Dinnerware.  When I spotted it, I commented how I’ve been looking for Blue Willow chins. Then she said something I didn’t expect…she said I could have it.

I’m happy to say that I am now a proud owner of a full set of Churchill Blue Willow dinnerware.

Round Top Antique Market--2017

As I pointed out in yesterday’s blog post, it pays to go off the beaten path when antique shopping in and around Round Top.

Until next time…
