I love sharing entertaining tips with you here on the blog.  Today I thought I’d share an idea that can help you create the decor for your next party or shindig (love that word)!

When it comes to party decor, there are no set rules to follow but there is one sure-fire way to create a decorative look that is stylish and dynamic, and its all about the color palette you choose.    Here are four easy ways to pull together the look of your party…

#1 Decorate with a Single Color

Celebrities love to throw All White Parties where every element of the event, including the dress code is white.  Way back in 1966 Truman Capote hosted one of the first celebrity parties with a color theme, the Black and White Ball.  A single color (or two) always creates a beautiful setting and a sense of elegance.

tip:  To create more depth and visual impact for parties using a single color, use different shades of the color throughout the decor.

#2  Pick a color palette that involves ONE CORE COLOR and accents of others

When you’re working with more than one or two colors, your table will appear to have more visual layers and each design component will really stand out.  Select the dominate color and then incorporate 3 to 4 pattern versions of that color into your tablescape.  Mixing dots, stripes and geometric patterns will create decor with a punch.

tip:  When selecting the patterns for your party, pay close attention to the scale of each.  Three different patterns, in three different size scales is always a winning formula.

#3 Use Primary Colors to create a bold look

Primary colors are the first colors we were exposed to as kid and always convey a feeling of warmth and familiarity.  Primary colors are bold and vibrant and work great as complimentary colors for party decor.

tip:  Always incorporate white when decorating with primary colors.  White will help to soften the look of the decor and prevent it from looking to juvenile.

#4 Mix a Metallic Color with a Bright for a sophisticated look

Adding a metallic color into your decor is one of easiest ways to convey a sense of elegance and sophistication.  Gold or copper will provide a more regal feel while silver may feel more sparkly and upbeat.

tip:  Always add in a few white elements when decorating with a bright color and a metallic.  The white provides a backdrop for the other colors to bounce off of and pop.

I can honestly say that any color you pick for your next party will look great as long as it involves a little bubbly and some confetti!
