Favorite Finds from Flower Home by Drew Barrymore

In an effort to further capitalize on the growing home decor industry, Wal-Mart recently partnered actress Drew Barrymore to launch her 1st collection home products.

Flower Home is an eclectic mix of colorful, vibrant and personality packed home decor and furniture, all at affordable prices.

I spotted a few of the items on the internet last week and immediately headed to Walmart.com to check out the full line.  Although not necessarily my style, I liked a lot of the items and want to share my favorites with you.

No. 1–The silk flower art piece is definitely my favorite item in the collection.  I love the colors, the chinoiserie feel  and the $49 price.

No. 2–I love the clean lines and sun-kissed color of this mid-century velvet accent chair ($399).   A pair of these would look great in a home office or flanking a fireplace.  If this golden color isn’t your thing, this chair silhouette is also available in three other fabric options.

No. 3–Pretty in pink is how I’d describe this ceramic table lamp ($75).  The embossed geometric design and velvet lampshade are my favorite details.  A pair of these would look great in a little girls bedroom.

No. 4–It’s no secret that I’m a sucker for pretty dinnerware.  The floral and stripe pieces in this vintage floral dinnerware set makes it easy to mix and match for both formal and casual entertaining.   ($60 for 16 pieces–also available in a peach color)

No. 5–Antique brass and rattan are two of my favorite design elements together they give this floor lamp and chic and bohemian vibe. Place it next to a cozy lounge chair and you’ve got the perfect reading nook. $120

No.6–I think it’s the combination of bright yellow and turquoise that drew me to this bird artwork ($124). I wish there was a coordinating piece to go along with this but alone, this piece would look great as in a sunroom or kids play area.

No. 7–Even though I don’t see people decorating with globes as much as they once did, I still think they are a thing.  This flower globe ($76) is one of the prettiest I’ve seen and would be a fun accent in a home office or kids study area.

No. 8–One of the reasons I love ceramic garden stools so much is because they are so functional.  They can be used indoors and out, make a nice side table and provide additional seating in a pinch.  This ombre ceramic side table is a pretty piece and only $76.

The Flower Home collection has gotten rave reviews so don’t be surprised to see items flying off the shelf.  If you can’t find your favorite pieces on Wal-Mart.com, check their companies sister brands, Hayneedle and Jet.com  which are also selling the decor and furniture collection.

New Chandelier & Pendant Lighting

August 20th marked one year since we moved into our new house. Before we moved in we made some big changes like painting all the walls, ceilings, doors and stair rails.  We added hardwood floors on the lower level and gave the kitchen a facelift by painting the kitchen cabinets white.

With all the cosmetic changes made, we’ve slowly been tackling our long decorating list. Among other things, the list includes new kitchen hardware, new light fixtures throughout and decorating my office space, which I finished last month. You can see the before and after of my office space here.

Our townhouse was the model unit and had a few upgraded features.  Unfortunately lighting was not one of them.  All of the fixtures were builder grade with little to no style.  Changing out the lighting was on the top of our to-do list and slowly we are making progress.

In February I was fortunate enough to win a giveaway that Kristy Wicks had in partnership with Lamps Plus.  Since I source a lot of lighting from Lamps Plus for design clients, I was thrilled to win a $500 credit from a company that I love.  I immediately went shopping and selected a new chandelier for our dining space, new pendant lights for the kitchen and a ceiling mount for the lower entryway.

Lamps Plus processed the order in a flash and my new lighting arrived on my doorstep a few days later. That was back in March and FINALLY we got around to getting the lighting installed last month.

Our kitchen counters are black granite and all of the interior doors in the house are black, so I selected black and gold lighting for the dining area and kitchen.

Here’s a look at the dining room chandelier from Christmas.  The original fixture was a grey color with dingy white lampshades.

NEW DINING  & KITCHEN LIGHTING

Our new fixture is a beauty.  It’s the Lufkin 6-light Chandelier with black shades and an antique brass frame.  I love the combination of black and brass which speaks to my love for traditional decor  and the rounded shape adds a modern vibe that I love.

**sadly the chandelier is no longer available

With an open concept main floor, our dining area and kitchen are right next to each other so the kitchen lighting had to coordinate.  I choose three of the George Kovacs Gold Mini Pendants to hang over the peninsula.

fyi–the gold arm and collar on the pendant lights was bight gold so I used antique gold Rub-n-Buff to tone down the color.  One coat gave me the finish color that matches the chandelier perfectly.

I’m thrilled with our new lighting and the transformation it made to our dining area and kitchen. The final decorative piece for the dining area was a new rug which I ordered a few weeks ago.  I shared a glimpse of it on Instagram and will have a full reveal later this week.  Stay tuned because it’s a beauty and a great price!

Our project list is getting shorter but I’m glad to have a few things checked off.

If you’re in the market for stylish and affordable lighting, definitely check out Lamps Plus.  In addition to an amazing lighting selection, they also sell furniture and home decor.  One stop shopping at its best!

Affordable Home Decor: Look what $50{ or less} will buy you!

Who besides me loves a great deal?  When it comes to decorating my house, I love nothing more than finding a great looking item at an incredible price.  I am constantly shopping at big box stores like HomeGoods and TJ Maxx for budget friendly decor and just recently started shopping H and M Home.

I’ve always shopped H and M for inexpensive fashion accessories and was thrilled to learn that they offer home products.  Just like the jewelry and clothing that H and M sells, the home decor pieces aren’t investment pieces that will last a lifetime.  Their items are great for seasonal updates and if you love to change out your decor on a frequent basis like me, the H and M home prices allow you to do that without guilt.

I did a little surfing this weekend on the H and M site and found lots of items that I really love.  Here are six items that have great style and would be great for a end-of-winter decor update.
