No. 1:  Tropical Travel Bag Set ($63.00)–When I was a clothing buyer, I traveled a lot and had plastic pouches to keep my luggage organized.  Back then, function was more important than looks. No. 2:  UGG Cozy Knit Slippers ($120.00)–It took me a long time to jump on the UGG bandwagon but once I did, I was hooked.  Just like UGG boots, these fleece lined slippers will keep feet warm and cozy during the winter months.

Girlfriend Gifts

Feeling Groovy Trinket Tray

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I had already begun doing some Christmas shopping.  I hate to wait until the last minute when the items have been picked over and store shelves are bare.  One category of gifts that I tend to buy early is girlfriend gifts.

Finding that special gift for a girlfriend can sometimes be challenging so my method for selecting the perfect gift is to tap into that persons style.  Think about the colors the person wears, the items they decorate their home with and their passions in life.  When you look for gifts that connect to a person’s lifestyle and soul, you’ll always find the perfect piece.

Here’s a round-up of gifts that I love and that I think my girlfriends would love too.

Voluspa Candle Collection

These Jardin Des Vases are ideal for that friend that has a crush on blue and white and loves to decorate.

I have a long list of friends that would love this Brass Pineapple Dish so I’m planning to add a few to my gift closet.

If you have  friends who run their own businesses , the Morocco Madness Stationery will make them feel special and is a perfect way for them to personalize correspondence to their customers.

A cute little Trinket Dish  like this one is great for all the stylish friends on your list.

These chic Stone Stud Earrings  are for the fashionistas in your life.

My go-to gift for girlfriends or anyone for that matter is Candles and I just love this little collection from Voluspa.

Do you have a friend that needs to take a little more time for themselves?  Gift them this adorable Bird Teapot and encourage them to take a few minutes each day to do just that.

Now that you have some great gifts to consider, you’ll need a fun way to wrap them.  On Monday I’ll be sharing a chic and simple gift wrap idea with you so until then, enjoy your weekend and happy shopping.

DIY Valentines Cards (that are actually gifts)

Felt Hearts

I don’t send out Valentines cards every year, but this year I decided to get crafty and make a card that’s actually a usable gift.

Because I’m sending these gifts to a few of my special girlfriends, I wanted it to be something that was personal and could be used in different ways.  After coming across a piece of leather I had stashed away I decide to make a keepsake heart charm.

Outside the holiday season, the spring and early summer months are prime gift giving times with graduations, weddings, mother’s day, father’s day and many of my friends and family’s birthdays taking place during these months.  Shopping at the last-minute for gifts is not something I like to do so I tend to keep a stash of essential gifts on hand in my gift closet.  These are items that have universal appeal and items that can easily be paired with another piece if the occasion calls for a little something more.  Here’s a look at the items I like to gift most and always keep in my gift closet.

I Wish I Could, But I Can’t

Happy Friday!
Today I had planned to show you my  home office space but I cant!  It is no shape to make a debut on the blog.
The current state of my desk looks like this…

Slide1

and I’ve got fabric samples, my fall coffee table décor, centerpieces for an event and my treasures from Scott Antique Market all over the floor!

Slide2

I promise I’ll share the space with you next week after I get it cleaned up and organize, but in the meantime I hope you enjoy this quick and easy DIY project I recently created for my desk.
Slide3
After painting my desk and adding a glass top, I realized that my computer mouse was not functioning well on the glass surface.  I knew I needed a mouse pad but didn’t want to buy one of those generic looking ones, so DIY to the rescue.
Supplies:
Cork trivets from Ikea ($2.99 for 3) and Decorative Scrapbook Paper
Mod Podge, Scissors and a paint brush
Decorative Washi Tape and/or acrylic paint
How to:
Trace the outline of your trivet on to the scrapbook paper and cut it out.
Using a paint brush, coat one side of the trivet and the back side of your paper circle with Mod Podge.  Place the paper on to the wet trivet surface and smooth out.
Once the Mod Podge is dry, you can paint the edge of your trivet with acrylic paint or cover it with decorative washi tape. And if you want, you can coat the top and sides with a final layer of Mod Podge to create a smooth, protected surface.
Let everything dry and you’ll have a fancy mouse pad for your desk, for less than $3.00!

IMG_6858

I loved how easy and inexpensive this project was so I created three mouse pads that I can switch out when the mood strikes me.  I used decorative tape on the edge of two pads and painted the edge of the third.

Slide4

With the holiday season coming up, this is a great project you can do for girlfriend gifts or teacher’s gifts.
I hope you have a great weekend.  I’m off to get things cleaned up so I can enjoy the beautiful weather we’re suppose to have here this weekend!
