Interior Design Ideas {With A Golden Touch}

Happy Monday!  Can you believe it is already August?  This year has just flown by and before you know it, we’ll all be putting out pumpkins and decorating for Christmas.  I don’t know about you but I need life to slow down just a bit!

This weekend I tried to slow the pace a bit and spent a little time surfing the web looking for inspiration. One of the things I came across on Pinterest was a collection of beautiful spaces, all with one thing in common, a touch of gold.

Trend Spotting at the Atlanta Gift & Furniture Show

In addition to attending the Haven conference last week, I also squeezed in a couple of days at the Atlanta Gift & Furniture show.  The Atlanta show is one of the largest industry trade shows where the focus in home decor, furnishings and gift items.  If you’ve read any of my previous post on the show you know that there are three massive buildings with hundreds and hundreds and showrooms featuring the latest and greatest design and product trends for home and gifts.

I always attend the shows looking for new resources to use in my design business but also as a way to stay on top of the newest design, color and styling trends in home decor.  While I won’t say that I say any totally new trends at this market, I did see lots of trends that have been building over the last couple of years becoming even stronger.  Want to know what’s hot,  check out the trends I spotted (s0rry in advance for the not so stellar iPhone photos)…

Color Crush: Mint and Gold

COLOR CRUSH:

Mint & Gold

We all have colors that we consider our favorites (red and hot pink for me) but every season there are one or two new colors that make my seasonal Color Crush list. This spring I’m head over heels in love with Mint & Gold.

Even though pastels are really not my thing but this combination is just so beautiful that I can’t help but be drawn to it.  On the pastel scale mint is one of those colors that sits between soft and feminine and modern sophistication.  When paired with gold, mint takes on a whole new feel and becomes really elegant.

On the color psychology wheel, greens in general offer a feeling of freshness, tranquility, and calm.  It can also signify wealth, stability, growth, and abundance.  All pretty good reasons to love mint green.

Design Details: Gold Edging

I’m all about gold accent these days and love how a touch of gold can turn an ordinary item into something chic and über stylish.
I’m sure you’ve all seen this DIY project floating around blog land where a simple picture frame is updated with gold corner accents.  Who would have thought that such an easy project would yield such stylish results.

You can find my source for metal corner pieces in this post.
I’m also loving this idea of painting the page edge of thrift store books and turning them into a glamorous decorative accent.

I also love the look of a gold edge on a piece of furniture.  Emily over at Emily A. Clark transformed this table first by painting it black and then my adding a gold edge.  Stunning!

This metal bamboo table looks so much more expensive and high-end with a gold finish!

And how about the idea of up-styling your stationery or even your business cards?  I’m so going to do this with my business cards.

So what do you think?  Do you love a touch of gold as much as I do?
One thing I’ve learned in my years in design is that it is the little details that really make design come to life!
