What do you get when you bring 5000 women (and a few men) together with some of the worlds most inspiring lifestyle experts….Oprah’s “O, You” event!
This past Saturday, I attended Oprah’s 2011 O, You event here in Atlanta and I can honestly say it was one of the most inspiring days of my life.
If you’ve followed my blog for a while, and read my Destination Oprah Show post, my farewell post or the What I Know For Sure post, you know that there are only a few people who I admire more than Oprah. So attending this event was something I was not going to miss. So, here’s the day in pictures and words…
- The editor in chief of O Magazine, Susan Casey opened the event and introduced Gayle King.
- Gayle was so funny and engaging, despite that fact she was dealing with jet lag, coming off a trip to South Africa.
- Suze Orman reminded us that ” there is nothing wrong with accepting money for the energy you put out.”
- Lisa Ling gave an inspiring presentation that reminded us how important it is to take care of yourself, while also doing for others.
- Dr. Oz reminded us how important the “quality” of life is to the “quantity” of life. “To live long, you have to live well.”
- Martha Beck reminded us all to “Fear not my friend, the darkness is gentler than you think” and “you must be open and ready to accept all that you are meant to be and have!”
- Nate Berkus, (so adorable) stressed to each of us that “you need to be ruthless editors of what you allow into your home. Everything you have should have a reason for being in your home.”
- Organization guru, Peter Walsh let everyone know how important an uncluttered home and purse is to living and functioning at your highest level.
- Donna Brazille reminded us how important it is to have JOY in our lives and even more importantly how “you should never allow anyone to take it away from you!”
And then Oprah came to the stage…
Being in the same room with Oprah was a dream come true and hearing her words of inspiration first hand was something I’ll never forget.
Oprah, along with the lifestyle experts energized the crowd, spoke words of wisdom and left everyone, myself included, with the unwavering belief that if you work hard, play hard, dream big, help others, be nice, live within your means, follow your heart, love yourself, never doubt your abilities, find your passion and BELIEVE, your life can be all that you want it to be.
