And lots of new friends!
On Saturday, the nationwide I Love Thrifting event, spear-headed by Rashon, aka Mr. Goodwill Hunting took place, and let me just say it was a fun and fabulous day.
There were several thrifting groups in Atlanta, but my group was lead by the dynamic duo, Erika of BluLabelBungalow and Dayka of Meditationsonlifeandstyle. I had met Erika a couple of times before, but it was the first time meeting Dayka. Both Erika and Dayka are super sweet and I was looking forward to spending the day getting to know them and doing a little thrift shopping.
Our group gathered at our first stop, the Goodwill at NorthLake. We took a few moments to say hello and take a group photo. What a great group of women!
And then with shopping carts in hand, we hit the aisles.
One of the items on my shopping list was picture frames. I was looking for a collection of frames that could be painted and used to create a gallery photo wall. Here are the frames I purchased, all under $4.00 each.
After about 45 minutes of shopping, we were off to our next stop, a true Atlanta landmark…My Favorite Place. The parking lot was full when our caravan drove up, but we all found parking spaces and made our way to the door. The look on the workers faces when our group of about 20 entered was priceless!
My Favorite Place is a massive building filled to the rafters (literally) with all types of treasures– old, new and somewhere between. Prices vary, but if you look hard enough and long enough, you’ll find some great deals.
Here are a couple of items I found. I plan to paint the wall cabinet a high gloss black and will use the silver plated bowl ( $5.75) as a flower vase.
It’s easy to spend 2 + hours in My Favorite Place, but after about and hour, we were out the door and off to another Goodwill. During this stop several of us were approached by a woman who had checked out our t-shirts and what we were buying. She came over and asked “how can I join the group?” Erika gave here a business card, and we hope to see her at next years event.
Next stop, lunch.
Lunch was a lot of fun, relaxing and getting to know everyone. There were a few fashion bloggers in the group who got all of us design enthusiast excited about finding fashion bargains while thrifting. And, us design bloggers shared info about our blog sites and showed photos of some of our furniture makeover projects.
After we nourished our souls, we headed to our last Goodwill in Sandy Springs.
Upon our arrival, not only were we met by Elaine Armstrong, the North Georgia Director of Public Relations for Goodwill, but an 11-Alive news photographer was on site to capture all the fun we were having. Elaine was excited to have us all shopping in the store and told us about a new Goodwill opening soon in McDonough. We are so there!
The day ended around 4 pm, and although I was exhausted, I was excited about the items I picked up and most of all the new friendships I made. The I Love Thrifting event was a huge success.
Thanks Rashon for coming up with this great idea. I can’t wait until next year!
