A Grateful Heart!

VA Centerpiece 2 2015

Hello friends!

I hope everyone had a great week last week and are enjoying all of this beautiful fall weather we are having.  I can’t believe it is already snowing in some parts of the country.  I wanted to pop in today and give you an update of where I’ve been and what I’ve been doing.

It’s been quiet here on the blog for the last week because the planning for the (CAC) Community Assistance Center Vintage Affair non-profit event I chaired kinda took over my life.  The event was Saturday night and I’m happy to say that all of the centerpieces got done, decorating the event space went off without any major hiccups and the evening turned out great.  Everyone in attendance had a great time and above all, we raised lots of money for the organization.

As with most non-profit events, everything is done on a tight budget so that required me to great creative with the decor for the event.  The theme of this years event was Connecting Communities so I came up with the idea of creating hearts out of puzzle pieces to convey the message of connecting.

Each and every one of the hearts used in the centerpiece were handmade from thousands of puzzle pieces and then the entire heart was spray painted with gold metallic paint.   I reached out to Rustoleum and they graciously donated spray paint for the decor and I can’t thank them enough.  The red and gold pom poms were made from Christmas garland cut into small pieces and glued to wood skewers. I skipped for joy when I came across the garland in the exact color we needed to match the event logo (it was meant to be)!

The final piece to the centerpiece puzzle (no pun intended) were larger puzzle pieces with words written on them that represent the mission of CAC.

I have chaired this fundraiser for 4 years and will be turning it over to someone else next year as I step in to the role of President of the Board of Directors for CAC.  Working with CAC over the last 5 years has been so rewarding because it allows me to give back to the community and also because I get to experience first-hand the gratitude of the people the organization helps.

If you live in the Atlanta area and want to learn more about CAC or volunteer with the organization, head here.

I’ll be back in full blog mode tomorrow with some design inspiration for you.
