There are lots of decorating crimes to be made like placing all your furniture up against the wall or not having the right lighting in a room but there is not worse mistake than that of the dreaded contoured bathroom rug!
I get why these rugs were invented back in the day but times have changed and you have so many more decorative options than the bathroom-in-a-bag set!
AN AREA RUG
Given ample floor space, I recommend a single area rug in the bathroom. A single rugs gives a bathroom a clean, crisp look while providing at the function needed for each zone in the bathroom.
A RUNNER
A runner is another great option especially if the bathroom is narrow.
DOUBLE UP
You can always double the fun with your rugs by using small rugs in the front of each sink basin. When using multiple rugs make sure you don’t get rug happy and end up with lots of scatter rugs throughout the bathroom, creating a busy, cluttered feel.
GO ROUND AND ROUND
A round bathroom rug is a great way to visually break-up all the straight lines in a bathroom but you want to make sure you select a rug that is an appropriate size for the space.
A couple of other rugs tips to keep in mind as you decorate your bathroom:
* wall to wall carpeting in the bathroom is never a good idea
* a colorful bathroom rug is a simple way to introduce color and pattern into the space
* if you’re having a hard time finding a large enough rug for your bathroom space, consider taping two identical rugs together to create a larger size, have a custom size rug cut and bound at a local rug shop or use Flor carpet tiles to create a rug that fits your space.
* Cotton rugs are your best fiber option for bathrooms but you can use materials like bamboo, chenille and wool. Most importantly, opt to find a rug that is easy to clean – preferably one that can be thrown in the washing machine since rugs should be regularly washed every one to two months. And, to prevent slipping, a non-slip rug pad should always be used underneath if it’s not build into the rug.
Have fun when selecting a rug for your bathroom and choose a style that adds a little personality to the space.
