classic barn gooseneck barn light with a copper finish
Lighting can be one of the most expensive hardware elements you can purchase for your home plus looking at the thousand of lighting options available in stores and online can be daunting. One of the tricks that I like to use when I’m decorating an interior space is to look at lighting that is not typically meant for indoors. There are some really fabulous outdoor lighting fixtures that can be used inside the home and one of my favorite style options are barn lights.
Brisbane Gooseneck Light from Barn Light Electric
Barn Lights were designed and developed in the 1920’s and were designed to hang from ceilings or mounted on poles or walls with a downward illumination. The lights had a white interior which offered the most reflective ability and the porcelain enamel exterior finish was perfect for outdoor use because nothing would stick to the surface. Over the years, the design of barn lights have remained fairly unchanged but the appeal of barn lights has gained popularity with the growth of industrial inspired decor.
You can find vintage barn lights at flea markets, but most of the time they are in need a little work and refinishing and they can be expensive, due in part to their popularity.
A great source for new, vintage inspired barn light styles in Barn Light Electric. The husband and wife team the founded this company had a passion for vintage lighting and when they couldn’t find what they wanted they decided to begin manufacturing their own lights.
Barn Light Electric has tons of lighting choices in lots of color options but there are a few that stand out to me as great options for bathrooms, kitchen, home offices and play rooms.
Old Dixie Pendant–perfect over a kitchen island or sink
Edison Cloth Cord Pendant–a great option in a craft room or play room
Deep Bronze Suspended Pendant–nice light fixture to hang over a breakfast table
Garden City Wall Sconce–this wall sconce would be stunning hanging over a wall of built-in bookcases
If you’re looking for a unique lighting option and love the look of vintage fixtures, I highly recommend a barn light. To check out the full lighting line available from Barn Light Electric, head here!
