Hello there! Today’s the day for the unveiling of my Christmas tree and I’m so glad you stopped by to check it out.
Every year I create a different theme for my tree, using items that I already own and adding a few new things. This year I decided to take my love for plaids and my favorite color red, and use it as the foundation for my theme.
I love a tree with lots of different elements so I used a mix of ribbons, mercury glass and silver ornaments, shiny red ornaments and I also added in a few handcrafted ornaments too! The large red star topper added the perfect finishing touch.
THE RIBBON
I fell in love with this tartan ribbon the minute I saw it. Not only was the color mix great but the ribbon has a flocked texture which added to the style of the tree. This is the same ribbon I used to make the mug wraps I shared with you yesterday.
THE ORNAMENTS
I’ve decorated a lot of Christmas trees over the years and one of the things I always do to create a beautiful tree is to use a mix of ornaments. This year I decided to use my collection of mercury glass ornaments and combine them with red glass ball ornaments, silver glitter ornaments and the stained wood ornaments I made a few weeks ago. The mix has a traditional feel but is also a little playful.
THE BASKET
The other day I wrote about the trend of using a basket or container instead of a tree skirt. Since I love the idea I wanted to use a basket to hold my tree. When I stumbled across this round, black basket at Marshalls I couldn’t have been more excited. It was the perfect fit and because it is woven from dyed cloths, it adds a lot of texture.
THE DETAILS
White lights are always my choice for the Christmas tree and I just love how they sparkle against the ornaments. Oh, there’s one other ornament on the tree that I forget to tell you about.
At the last minute I decided to add a few handmade tartan ornaments. I pulled out a stash of small embroidery hoops and some tartan gift wrap and created a handful of plaid ornaments.
One of the other things I always do when it comes to my Christmas tree is coordinate my gift wrap. I’ll be sharing my gift wrapping theme next week but here a peek.
It’s definitely beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the Mckee house!
