Creative Ways To Decorate For Christmas.001

Better Homes and Gardens

Every year in early November the idea of not putting up a Christmas tree runs through my mind.  Putting up a tree takes lots of time, creativity and effort, and some years I just don’t think I have it in me.

When those moments pop into my head, I think about all the other ways I could decorate without putting up a tree.   Starting at your front door and all throughout your house, there really are a lot of ways to decorate for Christmas that don’t involve a tree.

Today I’m going to share a few ideas with you in case you’re running short on time, energy or just want to do something a little different this Christmas.

No matter how small your front porch is, it’s a great space to hang garland, a wreath an even add a decorative element or two to celebrate the season.

Use the windows around your house as the backdrop for hanging ornaments and draped garland.  Use ornaments that look great on both sides so the view outside is just a good as the view inside.

Drape your staircase with fluffy garland accented with ribbon or ornaments.  If you are using artificial garland, try adding a few clipping of magnolia leaves of Christmas tree cuttings to give it a really lush feel.

Use your coffee table to as a decorative surface and add a tray with holiday decor as a centerpiece.

Use the tops of console tables to showcase a collection of Christmas ornaments and hang a beautiful wreath over the mirror artwork above.  And use the space under the table to display wrapped gifts.

Everything you’ve posted this week has been wonderful. What beautiful ways to bring Christmas into your life. I’ve got to get to making decorations. Every year I make at least one new decoration for the tree. Thank you for the inspiration, Shelly.

Oooh I love the idea of putting a wreath over a mirror! I have a humongous mirror over my fireplace, and I would love to hang a wreath somehow on it. 🙂
All the ideas are great! Thanks for the tips!

      Hi April,
You can use Command Hooks to hang the wreath on the mirror without damaging the mirror surface.
