It’s become a ritual.
Whenever I go to Ikea I start at the front of the store and snake my way through each of the departments only to find myself in the rug department “petting” the sheepskin rug they sell.
You know the rug, the white fluffy one that makes you want to just snuggle with it like you were a 5-year-old.
I can’t help myself.
I’ve picked up that rug so many times and asked myself the question that runs through my head at least 127 times a day, “what could I do with this?”
I know one, maybe two of those rugs are meant to be in my life so I had to go hunting for some design inspiration to help me figure out how me and this rug could live in harmony together.
If you’ve ever picked up this rug and asked the ‘what would I do’ question, here’s your answer…
When I’ve seen the rug on blogs and Pinterest, I often see it draped effortlessly over a chair adding a really hip and cool vibe to the space.
I do like the idea of covering a desk chair with the rug. It would definitely make for cozy seating and adds lots of personality to an office space.
Then of course there is always the full upholstery approach. Cool but not my style.

How about draped over dining chairs like my friend Jen from Vreeland Road did in her dining room? So pretty and I love how it glams up a dining space. If you don’t already follow her blog you’re missing out. And if you want to see more of her beautiful home check out the post Sherry from Design Indulgence wrote here.
I love the idea of using the rug to cover a bench or stools and since I have several of these sitting the garage waiting for makeovers, this is probably how I’ll end up using the sheepskin.
Black and gold legs with a furry top…so chic!
And this will definitely be happening this year….for a client!
So have I sold you on a sheepskin rug for your home? If you go shopping for one at Ikea, be aware that they sell two versions of the rug…
Faux Sheepskin @ $9.99 and Real Wool Sheepskin at $29.99.
Happy Decorating!

If I sat on a sheepskin covered chair, there would be rather pronounced indentations. Not sure if this is a look I could live with!

I love the idea of draping it over an armchair or office chair. And putting it under the Christmas tree looks so cool. X
