Design Trends Come Alive at the ASO Decorators’ Show House

Hello and welcome to a new week!  As you may have noticed, the blog has been a little silent the last few days.  Last week was one of those weeks when my schedule got the best of me and blogging got pushed to the side.  Despite everything and a week of rainy days, I had a good week and got lots accomplished.

One of the fun things on my schedule last week was a preview event for the Atlanta Symphony Decorators’ Show House.  Along with select designers and bloggers, I was invited to a private tour of the home before it opened to the public.  Having attended many of the ASO show house over the years, I must say at this years’ show house, Chateau Soleil is one of my all-time favorites.

Let me take you on a little tour….

Chateau Soleil

Built in 1998 and designed by architect William T. Baker, the 14,000 sq. foot French style estate sits on 2 beautifully landscaped acres.  Named for its sunny, golden façade, Château Soleil is a show-stopper both inside and out.

Many of Atlanta’s top interior designers were chosen to decorate both the interior and exterior of the show house.  Upon entering the home you are captivated by the gorgeous grand foyer designed by Loren Audrey Taylor & Carolyn Abrams Taylor.  Loren incorporated bold patterns, black and white stripes and a greek key pattern to make a strong design statement that sets the tone for the entrance.

Just off the foyer was the study designed by my friends Lance Jackson and David Ecton of Parker Kennedy Living.  If you know anything about PKL, you know they have a signature style that combines classic pieces with unique vintage designs and bold pops of color.  The custom-made Fromental wall covering was the inspiration for their space and boy was it stunning.   It felt like butter!

The first floor guest bedroom was designed by one of my favorite designers, Melanie Turner of Melanie Turner Interiors.  If you have any doubt that wallpaper is making a comeback, this bedroom will change your mind.  Melanie took the ‘more is more’ approach when decorating this space and played up the blue and white chinoiserie wallpaper pattern with a mass of ceramic accessories in the same design theme  Emerald green continues to be a trending design color and I loved that it was used as an accent with the drapes and pillows–so elegant.  And you can’t help but notice all the brass and gold finishes that reinforce the elegant feel of the room.

The living room was designed by Michel Boyd of Smith Boyd Interiors and had so many amazing details.  Always a popular design feature, the art gallery wall that was created for this space combined some of the most beautiful hand-painted artwork I’ve seen. The artwork throughout the entire home was amazing!  And what about that gold chair?

Michel used the back wall of the living room to create a stylish wet bar. The circular ring cabinet pulls were just one of the many unique hardware details that stood out in the house.

Taking the trend of neutrals to a new level, the master suite was simply beautiful.  From the amazing moulding and art wall, to the lush textiles and touches of animal print, the master bedroom designed by Robert Brown of Robert Brown Interior Design was a true retreat.

Just off the bedroom was the stunning blue and white ladies bathroom and closet designed by Danielle Rollins and Bill Ingram of Rollins Ingram.

The space is a take on the blue and white design trend that is so hot right now and the minute I walked into the bathroom I was blown away by how pretty gorgeous it was. I loved every detail from the tub and window treatments to the oversized ottoman and artwork.

And then there was the dressing area!!!!

A simple textured wallpaper gave the walls character and the blue and white color and pattern theme continued into the closet.

Gotta love the blue closet shelving.

As I moved throughout the house I couldn’t help but notice all the incredible light fixtures the designers used.

This vintage light fixture was used in hallway just off the dining room.  The hallway and connecting butler’s pantry were designed by Stuart Pliner of Stuart Pliner Design. Like many of the other designers, he used an incredibly bold and dynamic wallpaper and painted ceiling to enliven the space.

Bringing his design statement full circle, Stuart had a custom made canvas floor covering created using the peacock image.

One of the questions I asked each of the designers as I toured their spaces was ‘what was your inspiration for the space?”

The inspiration for the dining room designed by Boxwoods Gardens & Gifts was that gorgeous flame stitch fabric you see on the back of the wing chair.  The shades of blue and the soft hand-made we want to run out and order this fabric–until I heard it was $500 a yard!

The blue and white watercolor dinnerware was such a fun touch on the traditional table and is available at Boxwoods.

And finally one of, if not my favorite space in the entire house is the den and breakfast area designed by HGTV star Vern Yip who is also serving as the honorary chair for this years showhouse event.

Yes, I love the design and style of this space but I also love how comfortable it feels.  In typical Vern style, this space uses a mix of patterns, finishes, colors and details which has become a favorite design look over the last few years.

Many of the fabrics used in the space are from Vern’s custom fabric line which is now available at Calico Fabrics

I am so in love with these wood cabinets and was shocked to learn they are from Frontgate like many of the other pieces used in the space.  If you haven’t checked out the Frontgate interior furniture line, you can see it here.

There’s so much more to the see at the 2015 ASO Decorator’s Show House so I encourage you to take a tour for yourself.   Chateau Soleil, is located at 4701 Northside Drive in Atlanta and is open to the public from April 18- May 10, 2015.

What a treat. Thanks for sharing. A few of my favorites are, the blue and white bath, the creamy white chest in the closet, all the chairs (I have a weakness for chairs).
