DIY Christmas Stocking Holders

Happy Wednesday!
I finished up my Christmas shopping yesterday and now I have the task of wrapping gifts on my list for today.  Before I head off to the land of paper and bows, I wanted to drop in today and share the 411 on my DIY Christmas Stocking Holders.

If you’ve read my blog for some time you know that I attend the Scott Antique Market here in Atlanta just about every month.  Scott’s is a treasure trove of furniture, accessories, antiques, vintage items and just about anything else you can think of.  One of the reasons I go each  month is to visit “my guy” as I affectionately call him.  Donnie is a mega dealer who brings boxes and boxes of “stuff” with him each market.  Most of the items he brings are purchased at estate sales, flea markets and defunct businesses and you never know what you’re going to find in his booth each month.
Last month as I was wondering the aisles of his space, I spotted a woman with an armful of wood pieces.  She looked happy as a lark which of course intrigued me.  I wandered over to the space where she had found her treasures and spotted what she had under her arm..

 unfinished wood cabinet doors!
As I stared at the pieces of wood I began wondering what the woman with the armful was going to do with these doors.
The creative ideas started swirling in my head and the thought that stood out to me most was that these doors, with their paneled pieces would be great as some sort of wall sign.
Christmas 2013-17
I asked ‘my guy’ for  a price and was stunned when he said he’d sell them to me for $3.00 each.  That’s all it took for an armload of these babies to come home with me.
After I got home and looked at the doors a bit closer I noticed the hole that was drilled in the center bottom of the door.  Perfect for a knob or handle I thought.
Then the most brilliant idea known to man came to me….these doors would make awesome Christmas Stocking Holders!
Christmas Stockings 2013-3
I did need some way to hang my Fur Collar Christmas Stockings and this was the perfect solution.
So after a coat of red paint, some hand lettering and two on-sale clearance knobs from Hobby Lobby, my DIY Christmas Stocking Holders were complete and are the perfect addition to my holiday décor.

and he’ll look at the holders and give a wink and a sigh
and think to himself, a visit to Scott’s is in order so I can visit ‘her guy’!

      Hi Kaelynn,
Check unfinished furniture stores and also cabinet makers. You might find some doors that are not in perfect condition but would work for a DIY project.
