Since I love gift wrapping so much, I’m always looking for ideas and inspiration to use on my next gift. Lately I’ve been drawn to beautifully decorated cakes, decorated with flowers and bands of icing. My creative mind looks beyond the fact that these works of art are cake and focuses on how I can adapt the design into gift wrapping.
When you think about it, a cake is very similar to a wrapped gift because it is usually a square, rectangular or round shaped adorned with embellishments. Just like a present.
When I stumbled upon this beautiful cake image on Pinterest last week, I was immediately inspired to recreate this look into a gift wrap project. The pretty band of sugar flowers and the delicate ribbon made of icing wrapped around a square cake where ingredients that could easily be duplicated in a gift.
And with a few bundles of craft store flowers, a simple white box and some of my favorite ribbon, I created this…
How to: Cute a band of poster board 3″ wide and long enough to fit all the way around your box with about 3/4″ extra so the ends can be glued together. Snip the flower heads and a few leaves off their stems and glue onto your paper band. Glue a few leaves along the edges as you go and overlap the flowers to create a lush look. Wrap your box with ribbon and tie a multi-loop bow a the top. Glue the end of your flower band together and slip the band over your box. Cost: I created this look for $8.00 by purchasing clearance flowers from JoAnne. Ribbon from my stash.
