I hope everyone had a great weekend. The hubs and I spent the weekend in Alabama at his high school reunion. He had a great time seeing and catching up with people he hadn’t seen in years. I also had a great time hearing stories about him from his high school days and learning about all the tricks he played on his freinds. I can definitely say that while he has gotten older, he still has the heart and spirit of a kid.
Anyway, I’ve been busy all day getting caught up on work, emails and projects so I’m hitting the send button on this post a bit late.
Today I wanted to share a fun little project I created using Wallternatives wall decals. During the Haven conference in July, I got a first hand look at Wallternatives wall decals and immediately my mind starting pondering all the ways I could decoratve with them.
If you’re not familiar with Wallternatives™ Wall Decals, they are the artful alternative to ordinary walls. There are several collections within the Wallternatives line providing design and style options for every design need and surface option.
After learning about the Wallternatives Dorm Decor blogger project a few weeks ago, I decided to join the fun and create something using their fabric decals. The goal of the project was to use Wallternatives wall decals to decorate a dorm room or in a project that could be used to decorate a dorm room. Since I don’t have any kids, let alone kids in college, I decided to create something that a student or anyone could use to decorate a workspace or to help them stay organized–a decorative clipboard!
Here are my designer clipboards featuring Wallternatives Wall Decals!
What is so great about the Wallternatives decals is that most, if not all of them can be used on any smooth surface and that they are repositionable so you can change your look whenever you want.
To create my clipboards, I attached decorative paper to the front side of the board using Mod Podge. I then placed my fabric decal on top of the paper and coated the entire surface with Mod Podge.
If I had wanted to remove the decal down the road, I could have sealed the top of the decorative paper with Mod Podge and then place my decal on top. Since I will be using the clipboards on a regular basis and will be writing on top, I added a layer of Mod Podge over the decal to protect the surface and secure it in place.
To give my clipboards that extra touch, I glued silver metal corner protectors onto each corner. The result is ‘All Kinds of Awesome’ if you ask me!
Here’s a quick look at the different collections available from Wallternatives:
The WallPrints Fabric Decals are a collection of whimsical images, decorative designs and wall quotes. The decals are made of premium polyester backed fabric with a repositionable adhesive which allows them to be removed easily, without creating any surface damage or leaving adhesive residue and then reused over and over again.
The ChalkTalk collection features decals with a slight surface texture that makes them the perfect surface for writing or drawing on it with chalk. You can apply the Chalktalk decals to surfaces like a refrigerator, bedroom or office doors, or painted walls. And the chalk wipes clean with an eraser, damp towel or sponge.
Another Wallternatives collection that I love is the Designer Vinyl Decals. The vinyl decals are meant to look like stenciling or hand painted designs and are available in 18 fashionable colors plus metallic gold and silver. The designer decals are a one-time only application but can be easily removed for up to 3 years after application which makes them great for rental homes or people who like to change their decor frequently. They can also be used in bathrooms since the adhesive is not affected by humidity.
My favorite collections is the Wallternatives Removable Wallpaper. The wallpaper is the peel and stick alternative to traditional wallpaper or stenciling and is so easy to use to dress your walls in style. All of the wallpaper patterns are created in a repeat pattern which makes them great for covering large wall surfaces and achieving a professional look.
The final collection from Wallternataives is a new product that is currently in development called EtchLook Decals. These decals are being designed to look like etched glass and should be a fun way to decorate glass or mirrored surfaces. I can’t wait to get my hands on these and create something for the holiday season.
Wallternatives decals as so easy to use and with so many design options the creative possibilities are endless!
* Use the letter decals to personalize gift wrap (you know I’ll be doing this) * Create dimensional photo frames by place a vinyl decal on the glass of a picture frame * Use vinyl decals to UpStyle a decorative serving tray * Place a vinyl decal on a table surface and then place a piece of glass on top for an instant custom tabletop * Place vinyl decals on the ceiling of a nursery or kid’s room (the mini dots are perfect for this) * Place a vinyl decal on a plastic placemat to create custom table decorFor more Wallternatives inspiration you can check out their Design Ideas page.
