I may have mentioned before that my mom is part of group of women that get together every month to play POKENO. They bet pennies and at the end of the day all of the pennies are collected and put in a large jar. Around Christmas time the group gathers the pennies they’ve collected throughout the year and buy non-parishable food. Then they create gift bags filled with food and treats and take the bags to the local nursing home to hand out to the patients there. This is a pretty major gesture since most of the ladies in my moms group are in their 80’s!
Since my mom is hosting the October Pokeno party, I thought I’d send a box of candy to her so all the ladies could enjoy it at their gathering. Of course I couldn’t send a store bought box of candy so I got busy making a crafting a custom candy box.
The box I used was a sliding box that once held Clinique products. The outer cover of the box was silver and had the logo stamped on it so I wrapped it in a black and white checked gift wrap. The inside of the box was solid silver so I left it as is.
To create candy cups inside the box I used decorative cupcake wrappers. I inverted 6 wrappers and placed them inside another wrapper so that there was a pattern on both the inside and outside of the candy cup.
I filled each cup with different candy (my mom’s favorite is Baby Ruth) and then decorated the outside of the box.
I tied a bow around the box using a striped purple, black and orange ribbon and added twisted fabric flowers I found at TJ Maxx.
The BOO tags are made of thin cardboard and are something I had in my craft stash.
It was fun to create this sweet treat candy box for a really sweet group of women.
And, as a little surprise, I lined the bottom of the box with pennies!
What a wonderful lady your mother is! I love your candy box. It’s a gift all by itself. Your mom is going to love it and I can hear all the ladies now having a fit over it. 🙂
