I almost always accent my gift with ribbon and 9 times out of 10 I add a ribbon bow. That’s it until I got crafty and made my own paper bow.
Now I’m loving the idea of wrapping all my gifts with handmade paper bows.
Isn’t it just the cutest thing you ever did see?
Want to know how I did it? It’s really easy and the fun part is that you can get creative with the paper you use to fit any gift giving occasion.
Supplies:
Two sheets of 12″ x 12″ scrapbook paper with a pattern on both sides
Paper Cutter or an old fashion ruler and exacto knife
Cut 8 strips of paper measuring 1″ w x 5″ long AND 8 strips measuring 1″ w x 6″ long
Bring the ends of each strip of paper together so that you create a pointed tip. Secure the loose ends with a Zots adhesive dot.
Since you are using paper with patterns on each side, alternate how each strip is folded so that you’ll be able to see different patterns within your bow.
Once you have all the strips folded, punch a small hole about a 1/4″ from the flat end. Layer FOUR folded strips in a cross pattern and secure them through the holes with a brad. When you are all done you’ll have 4 sets of petals.
Place one of the 6″ petals on top of the other, securing them with an adhesive dot in the center.
Layer the two 5″ petals on top of the larger petals, securing with the adhesive dots between each layer.
Your completed bow will have four layers of petals and an open center. For even more creativity, try adding a decorative element to the center of the bow like a paper flower or even a vintage earring or brooch.
I’m loving the look of paper bows so much that I’m thinking that all my holiday gifts will feature paper bows this year.
