I love paper products and one of my goals each year is to step away from the computer or cell phone and sends notes and cards to my friends the old fashion way. The cards I send are always decorative but rarely do I do anything special to the envelope.
But that’s going to change because I’ve been inspired by these creative envelope ideas.
ADD DECORATIVE LINERS
Vintage wall paper, gift wrap and scrap-book papers can turn a plain envelope into something special.
USE WASHI TAPE TO ADD A DECORATIVE TOUCH
PUT YOUR SHARPIE PENS TO WORK
A simple frame around the address signifies a special piece of mail.
DOODLE
I love the idea of creating a piece of art with the envelope. This is also a great way to get kids excited about letter writing.
MAKE YOUR OWN ENVELOPES FROM MAPS, OLD CALENDAR PAGES OR BOOK PAGES
ADD AN EDGE
You can create this look using a narrow piece of decorative fabric, hem tape or washi tape.
USE STAMPS IN A DECORATIVE WAY
I’ve never thought about using a variety of stamp designs to send a letter but I think this is a pretty cool idea.
STRIPE THE FLAP
Here’s another great use for washi tape or your could pull out the acrylic paint and get busy.
ADD A WAX SEAL
I have a handful of wax seals but do ever think to pull them out when I’m sending a letter. I love the elegant touch they add to an envelope and will be sure to use mine in the future.
So do you still send handwritten cards and letters? I hope you do and the next time you send one I hope you add a special touch to the envelope.

Thank you for writing about this.. you’ve just sparked an interest. I usually buy the pretty paper with matching envelopes, and never thought to create my own. Glad you showed this.

Hand-written notes are so thoughtful. All of these ideas are really beautiful. I’ve been thinking about taking an online calligraphy class.

Hi Brandi,
I think you should definitely take the calligraphy class, it’s such a fun handwriting technique.
Let’s plan lunch soon. I think the weather is getting bearable.
