Here in Atlanta, I think our string of hot days is over and cooler fall weather is here to stay. This has prompted me to get busy and complete my summer to fall closet transition.
Every year as I begin to remove the summer items from my closet, I challenge myself to think about ways I might we able to wear each piece of clothing into the new season so I can maximize my investment. I remember carrying a backpack years ago and how much I loved them. Backpacks were wonderful for traveling and shopping totally hands free is great. Just like all fashion statements, the backpack has found its way back and has once again become a hot trend for fall 2014 and spring 2015.
My ideal backpack styles are crafted of leather, have a sleek appearance and classic design details. Here are seven of my top picks for 2014.

One of the design consultations I had recently got me thinking about the do’s and don’t of styling a sofa. Not just any sofa, a sectional sofa.
I think a lot of people are attracted to sectional sofas because they offer abundant seating and because they seem to provide a bit more comfort than a traditional sofa.
After a while I think people can become disenchanted with their sectional sofa because they recognize that a sectional can limit the traffic flow within a room and sometimes a sectional feels overpowering in a space versus relaxed.
In my years of designing rooms, I’ve recognized that it’s not always the size, scale or placement of a sectional that causes the disenchantment, but instead its the fact that the sectional and the space around it are not styled or accessorized in the best way.

Happy Friday! This weekend is shaping up to be another busy one for me with lots of organizing, purging and cleaning on the to-do list. Since the weather is changing a bit, I feel the need to go through my closet and begin the summer to fall transition with my clothing and accessories. I’m always on the hunt for creative ways to display and store accessories and came across these ideas that have me really inspired!

Design tip: Bringing the outdoors in is a quick and easy way to add a touch of fall to your decor. Pull branches from the trees and place them in pretty containers, place outdoor mums along a console table or fireplace mantel and layer your furnishings with plaid throws.
Fall is in the air and I’m excited for what the season holds.
