The Bohemian Geo Cuff Sheet Set is part of their new Junk Gypsy collection and is made of 100% percale which is so soft and cozy.  And the embroidered diamond pattern that accents the flat sheet and pillowcases has a classic yet bohemian vibe.

The sheets are a soft off-white color that will mix easily with other bedding, adding to their versatility.

DIY Blue and White Luggage Tags and Handle Wraps

DIY LUGGAGE TAGS & HANDLE WRAPS

DIY Luggage Tags by ConfettiStyle

When I worked in the corporate world and traveled frequently, I had more luggage tags than I knew what to do with.  Over the years I’ve tossed them or they’ve found their way to the same mysterious location that single socks disappear to.  Since we’ll be traveling later this week and I had some scrap fabric lying around, I decided to craft a few handmade luggage tags and handle wraps.

DIY Luggage Tags and Handle Wraps

This is a really quick and easy project and only requires a few supplies.

Supplies needed:

DIY Luggage Tags and Handle Wraps by ConfettiStyle

Kraft tags
Vinyl Fabric Scrap–an 18″ x 18″ square   **(Fabric.com has a great selection of decorative vinyl)
Fabric Glue
Fabric Mod Podge
Mod Podge Clear Acrylic Spray Sealer
Industrial Strength Velcro–4″ x 1″ (available from Wal-Mart)
Metal Grommets and Grommet Tool
Ball Chain Key Chains

***

How-to DIY Luggage Wraps:

To make the luggage wraps, cut a piece of vinyl into a 5″ x 4 1/2″ rectangle.  Turn each edge under 1/4″ and glue the fold down using fabric glue.  This will create a clean, finished edge on each side of the vinyl.

Next, turn the fabric right side up and attached a piece of velcro on the right side of one edge and the underside of the other.  And your luggage wrap is done.

**I used adhesive velcro but a sew-on velcro would also work.

How-to DIY Luggage Tags:

Cut a piece of vinyl large enough to wrap completely around the yardstick tag with an overlap of about 1/2″ on the back side.

Use Mod Podge to glue the vinyl onto the tag.  Once dry, cut away the excess fabric, following the outline of the tag.

Use a hole punch to punch a hole at the top of the tag. (you should be able to feel the original hole in the tag under the vinyl).

Before you attach your grommet, coat both sides of the tag with Mod Podge and then seal the entire tag with a clear acrylic sealer.  This will give you tag a durable finish.

And the final step is to add the grommet and ball chains.

tip:  if you want to include contact info on your tag, hand-write or print your name and phone number on a piece of paper to fit the back of the tag. Seal the contact info to the back of the tag with Mod Podge.

DIY Luggage Wraps & Handle Wraps

I’m thrilled with how cute my tags and handle wraps turned out.  In a sea of black luggage, these blue and white luggage accessories will really stand out.

Summer Bedroom Refresh–Chinoiserie Inspired

I’ve been thinking about giving our bedroom a refresh for a while now and I think I’m going to pull the trigger.

This is the current look of the bedroom–a mix of wood, black & white accents and pops of color.

My love affair with blue and white has me thinking of a look that incorporate navy, black, white and pops of color.

Here’s the Chinoiserie Inspired inspiration board I came up with…

Summer Bedroom Refresh .001.jpeg.001

Since the black armoire and chair will be staying, I need to find a duvet cover that can tie the navy and black together.  About a month ago I spotted a Ralph Lauren set at HomeGoods but decided to pass on it.  Now I can’t get it out of my mind.  I’ve been searching for it again but so far I have only found  it in a king size and we need a queen.  The pattern is called Tamarind and I did find it on Amazon (more expensive) so if I don’t have any luck at HomeGoods I have another option.

When it comes the accessories, I’m planning to change the black drapes to a dark navy and I’m  looking at this pink pillow…

and some chinoiserie inspired artwork from Etsy.

And of course I’ll incorporate some blue and white ceramic pieces into the mix.

As always things may change before it’s all said and down but I’m excited to create a fresh new look for our space.

Pretty In Pink: Spring Bedroom Refresh

PRETTY IN PINK BEDROOM REFRESH

Whew!  Refreshing our bedroom for spring has taken a lot longer than I expected.  I was originally waiting for pillow covers to arrive from overseas, then my schedule got super busy and last week I got sick.  Despite it all, I’m so glad to have the little project done and so excited to share it with you.

Let’s take a look at where it all started.

I spotted this floral pillow cover on Etsy and immediately fell in love.  I don’t decorate with many floral pattens but something about this design and the colors captured my heart.

Pink Rose Pillow

Once I had the pillows in hand, I created a design board to represent the vision I had for the space.  I love our  headboard and frame and wanted to stick with a foundation of black and white for the room.  I also wanted to add in more gold accents and a pop of green.

As I was planning the space, Christina from MyLoveNotedesigns contacted me and asked if I would be interested in reviewing her custom designed art.  I jumped at the opportunity!  What timing and just the detail I was looking to add to the room.

Now that the vision was set, it was time to execute (lots of photos to follow)…

Are These Trends Over-Exposed??

Scalamandre Zebra Wallpaper

One of the things I’ve noticed since I started blogging is that when a popular blogger decorates with hot design trend, it starts showing up all over blogland in one bloggers home after another. As I designer, I’m exposed to the trends more than the average person and while I find myself gravitating towards what’s ‘hot’, I’m starting to feel like some design statements are becoming overused.

What I see happening is that homes are losing their unique personality because everyone is jumping on the same bandwagon.  And it’s also happening in fashion too!

Take the black and white Ikea Lappljung pattern.  First it was the pillow

Ikea Lappljung Pillow

and then the rug.  Or did the rug come first?   It wouldn’t surprise me if every home in American owned one or both of these items.

(I own the pillow)

And I’m not even going to mention the Vargyllen pillow.

Now let’s take a look at six trends that may be reaching the level of over-exposure…

I’m seeing this Malakos Malachite pillow showing up in so many bloggers homes and on the pages of magazines. Malachite has been a major trend for several seasons now  and while malachite furniture can be pricey, in a pillow the trend becomes something everyone can afford.

Ok, how many of you have seen this Eliza J Scarf Print Maxi dress showing up on fashion bloggers feeds over the last two weeks.  I think this is the ‘it’ dress of the summer and will be showing up at parties, soirees and even blog conferences across the country.  I spotted the green version at Dillard’s a few weeks ago and even considered buying it myself.

It appears that a hot commodity in bedding these days is the black and white Linden Duvet from Crane and Company.  I’ve seen multiple bloggers/designers using this set in recent bedroom designs and I think it just highlights the fact that black and white color palettes are popular right now and classic will always be in style.   I love this bedding but I’m going to put a twist on the look for my spring bedroom refresh that I’ll be revealing next week.

Need a little something to hang on the wall?  Well, how about the Beverly IV Tropical Palm Leaves image that is showing up in droves across blogland. It’s bold and dynamic, and fits in with the bohemian modern decorating style that so many people are loving these days.  If the art is a bit much for you, this pattern is also trending in pillow form and as a wallpaper.

Another super hot wallpaper design is the Cole and Company Birch Tree pattern.  It’s being used in just about every room of the home but I especially love it in a bathroom.  It’s fun to see such a unique look become so popular.  If you’re interested, you can purchase the UK design wallpaper from Anthropologie here.

When it comes to flooring, this Basket Weave Tile just might win for tile of the year.  The black and white color combo is classic and easily mixes with any accent color.  While the tile might be most suited for the bathroom, I must admit I also like it as a kitchen backsplash.

So, what’s your take on these trends becoming over-exposed?  Are you one to join in on the fun or are you doing your own thing?

Affordable Home Decor: Look what $50{ or less} will buy you!

Who besides me loves a great deal?  When it comes to decorating my house, I love nothing more than finding a great looking item at an incredible price.  I am constantly shopping at big box stores like HomeGoods and TJ Maxx for budget friendly decor and just recently started shopping H and M Home.

I’ve always shopped H and M for inexpensive fashion accessories and was thrilled to learn that they offer home products.  Just like the jewelry and clothing that H and M sells, the home decor pieces aren’t investment pieces that will last a lifetime.  Their items are great for seasonal updates and if you love to change out your decor on a frequent basis like me, the H and M home prices allow you to do that without guilt.

I did a little surfing this weekend on the H and M site and found lots of items that I really love.  Here are six items that have great style and would be great for a end-of-winter decor update.

Another hot trend this spring is floral decor.  You can mix this floral duvet with solid colored linens to create a really great look for your bedroom.  Floral Duvet Cover $49.95
This gold tray is a great buy and would look stunning on a vanity or bar card.  Gold Tray $14.95
I think every household in America owns that black and white pillow covers from Ikea so I’m happy to see a new kid on the block.  This classic black and white stripe will never go out of style and at this price you can’t go wrong. Striped Pillow Cushion $5.95
As a bookshelf accessory or flower vase, this textured glass vase packs and lot of style for a small price.  Glass Vase $19.95

Fall Bed Linen Refresh

IMG_0141

Every season I do a little refresh of the bed linens on our bed.  I like to change things up a bit to  reflect the colors of the season and how I’m feeling.

With the onset of fall it was time for the pink and red pillows to move out and rich, warm colors to move in.

Frame as Headboard

Sometimes an image can stop you in your tracks not because it is a space with lots of design details and color, but because what makes it beautiful are the simple details and simplicity.

Design Tip:  Never, Ever, Ever pass up a beautiful picture frame when antiquing or thrifting.  There are so many other great ways to use a picture frame beyond framing a photo.
