Spring Thyme | Recipes & Style Blog Hop

Spring is one of my favorite seasons. The weather is getting warmer, flowers are blooming and it’s almost time for picnics in the park and long evening walks. The coming of spring is such a mood booster for me and I’m just giddy that it is staying light outside until almost 9:00 o’clock.

Now that spring is here, I’m starting to see lots of spring blog tours popping up on the web. I don’t do much in the way of decorating for spring but I do love creating pretty seasonal tablescapes. And it just so happens that my friend Tamyra with Positively Southern is hosting a fun ‘Spring Thyme Recipe & Style’ blog hop and invited me join the fun.

Whenever I plan a seasonal tablescape, I look for something to inspire the theme. Can you guess what my inspiration was for my spring Easter table? Rabbits of course! I spotted the rabbit beverage pitcher at HomeGoods and immediately knew I wanted to use it as a flower vase. #unexpecteddecor

Once I had the pitcher home, my color palette of green, pink and white fell into place and I went on the hunt for a green and white table runner. #fail.

After searching a few stores without any luck, I decided to make my own using inexpensive cotton fabric. The fabric is a soft green color with an all-over white lattice pattern. It’s exactly the design I wanted for my tablescape. Once I cut the fabric to size I used iron-on hem tape to finish the edges and had my runner done in about 10 minutes. And it cost me less than $10 to make the runner and 6 napkins. #score

Flowers are always part of any tablescape I create so I surrounded the bunny pitcher with a mix of floral styles and colors. I combined hot pink orchids, white anemone, green hydrangea and pink peonies. The flowers are cascaded down the center of the table and add so much dimension to the centerpiece. Once I had the flowers in place, I tucked a few ceramic bunnies amongst the flowers to bring my Easter theme to life.

I opted not to use traditional placards on my table and instead did some hand-lettering on ombre tags I picked up at Michaels.

Did you notice the floral placemats under each place setting? Well it’s actually scrapbook paper I had in my craft stash. Scrapbook paper is the perfect size for a placemat and the floral pattern and colors worked great with my table decor.

Whenever you build a tablescape you should create layers with your decor. I used the mini cake stands to add height and placed a small dip bowl on top filled with chocolate eggs for added color.

The white dinner plates are my mom and dad’s wedding china and I love the pretty etched floral design around the edge. It coordinates perfectly with my paper placemats. The black and white place plates are from C. Wonder which is no longer in business. #imissthatstore

And if you hadn’t already guessed it, all the flowers except the tulips are silk.

Now that I’ve created my Easter table, I’m pretty sure the Easter bunny will be dropping off an Easter basket at my front door.

Setting the Table for Thanksgiving–Tips & Inspiration

Despite that fact that I’m not a big fan of turkey, Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I love all the pomp and circumstance that goes in the preparing food and setting the table so everyone can gather around and celebrate togetherness.

If you’re anything like me, you’re always trying to get a jump on your holiday planning, decorating and entertaining. So, today I’m outlining a few tips for setting your Thanksgiving table along with some inspiring table decor ideas that I rounded up online. Thanksgiving is just 30 days away so let the planning begin…

> Layer the table to create lushness. From linens to china and glassware to decor, layering the elements on the table will give your tablescape a warm and robust feel. Use pumpkins in different sizes and incorporate varying shades within a single color story to add visual interest.

> Use what you have around the house to decorate. Creating a unique tablescape doesn’t have to cost a lot if you shop your house. Gather grouping of candlesticks to use as your centerpiece, use decorative urns as flower vases or pull out some ribbon and use it to drape the table. Some of the best design ideas come from creativity.

> Texturized your table. Decorate your Thanksgiving table with elements that add texture like pinecones, foliage, nuts or textured charger plates.

> Take your centerpiece to new heights. When you build your centerpiece, make sure to add elements that add height which will give your tablescape dimension. Use different size candlesticks to create height or use pedestals, books or cake stands to elevate decorative objects.

> Let your table shine. Add a few simple items in metallic finishes to add a touch of shine and sparkle to your table.

> Do something unexpected. When entertaining, you should always look to add a personal touch to your tablescape so get creative by personalizing your place cards, the backs of your chairs or even with the materials you use as linens.

The beauty of this centerpiece is the layers created with foliage, candle holders and an assortment of pumpkins. If you won’t be using the ends of your table for setting, create a centerpiece that runs the full length of the table and let a few tendrils of greenery drape over the edge.

This tablescape uses overlapping burlap ribbon as a table runner. Burlap provides texture but still keeps the color palette neutral so the centerpiece stands out. You can shop my favorite source for burlap ribbon here.

Amy over at the blog Homey Oh My is one of my favorite craft and diy bloggers. While all of her projects are simple to make, they are always super chic. She incorporated some of her diy crafts into they beautiful fall tablescape using gold craft tape, glass jars and small pumpkins. This goes to show you that a little creativity can make a powerful statement. You can read the how-to’s behind this table setting here.

I love the idea of rustic touches mixes with more refined elements on a table. I single plank of wood as a runner is a great way to get that rough luxe look and it couldn’t be any easier to set up.

Whenever you can incorporate greenery into your table decor, go for it. Greens (which you can clip for free from your yard) layered under a wood slice charger creates a really dynamic look for a fall table.

From the use what you have files, the idea of using a kraft mailing tag as a decorative name card at the table is a fantastic one. So simple, chic and inexpensive.

Here’s another idea using scraps of ribbon you might have lying around the house. Use a metallic sharpie to personalize ribbon and tie it onto a pumpkin stem to create a unique name marker for your Thanksgiving table.

My Fall Tablescape–Natural + Gold

Hello friends and happy Friday!

It seems that the mother nature is going to bring an early taste of fall to Atlanta this weekend with temps in the 70’s. Perfect timing since I just pulled together this fall tablescape and I’m beyond ready for the season to be here.

This year I decided to create a table featuring natural hues with accents of gold. I love how it turned out and hope you do to.

Fall Tablescape Inspired by a Woodworker

Do you have one of those friends whose talent is just off the scale?

The kind of friend that possesses a skill as a sculptor or ice carver or something that blows you mind every time you see their work?

Well, I happen to have several of those friends but one in particular happens to have some mad woodworking skills. He is so good at crafting things from wood that every time I see him I find myself saying the words “that’s amazing” about 100 times.

Meet my friend Jeff.

Along with managing a woodworking store and building all types of amazing things for folks around Atlanta, Jeff is in the process of setting up an Etsy shop to sell some of the smaller decorative pieces that he makes.

Not too long ago Jeff and I were having lunch and he was telling me about these candle holder centerpieces he was making. He described them to me and based on his description alone, I knew I had to get my hands on one and use it as part of a fall tablescape.

Here’s the piece that Jeff created. It a chunky slab of wood that has multiple circular holes that can hold different styles of glass vases and candle holders. I love that the piece is large and substantial and the versatility of the holes makes it even that much cooler.

The piece is crafted of mahogany and has a dark stain finish.

And here’s the Fall tablescape I created inspired by this beautiful centerpiece, made by my friend Jeff, a master Woodworker!

Instead of a fabric tablecloth, I decided to use this faux bois gold and white gift wrap I picked up at HomeGoods. Isn’t it just awesome? The pattern plays beautifully with the handcrafted wood centerpiece and the width is perfect as a wide table runner.

The wood centerpiece was a great size for the center of my table and offers just enough height so that it won’t interfere with conversation across the table.

Again the really cool thing about this centerpiece is that it can hold different types of candle holders and small glass vases. The holes are about 2″ in dia. and about 3/4″ deep so any container in that size works. Lots of the candle cups available at Ikea are the perfect size.

My place settings also included wood. The square wood charger plates I found at a consignment store. I layered square white plates (purchased last year at HomeGoods) on top of the charger and then added floral napkins from Target. They were one of the clearance items I recently picked up (4 for $4.88). The gold-plated silverware was given to me by my mom and it coordinates great with the gold of the paper tablecloth.

Instead of using just candles in the centerpiece, I used a combination of candles, flowers and mini pumpkins.

Small glass votive cups hold bouquets of fresh flowers and I painted the mini pumpkins gold and white.

The taper candles are placed in flared glass candle cups that fit perfectly into the holes.

You all know I’m big on layering my décor and a table setting is no different. Layers are what give the tablescape depth and dimension and the mix of materials and finishes add visual impact.

My fall table was really quick to pull together and Jeff’s centerpiece was the perfect starting point for it all. I love the way the entire table turned out.
