TWO Easy DIY Christmas Ornaments

Christmas Tree Detail1

When I haven’t been decorating for clients I’ve been busy getting crafty and decking the halls at my home.  This year I made a few handmade ornaments from things I already had stashed away.  These ornaments were so simple they should be in the Holiday Decor for Dummies Book.

First up are tinsel filled ornaments.  I bought these clear ornaments two years ago I think and had plans to paint them.  While unpacking my decor this year I came across them and decided to turn them into tinsel ornaments.

All is took was some tinsel garland (mine purchased at Ikea), scissors and something long to push the tinsel into the ornament.  I removed the ornament cap, cut my garland into 4 inch long pieces and used a chop stick to push it into the ornament.

Next I decided to take a stash of holiday coasters I purchased at a Crate and Barrel after Christmas sale and turn them into ornaments. I punched a hole in one corner so the coaster would hang on the diagonal and easy peasy, I had ornaments.

Both of these ornaments add something different to my tree–the tinsel ornaments add sparkle and shine and the coaster ornaments layer in a different shape and dimension.  I’ll be back tomorrow to share my fully decorated Christmas tree in part one of Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour.

Have you crafted any of your Christmas decor this year?

Christmas in July–FIVE Holiday Trends for 2014

One of the fun things about having the Gift Mart here in Atlanta is that any time I need a Christmas fix I can head down there and tour showroom after showroom of Christmas decor.

When I had my retail store, I loved planning for a buying Christmas product.  I typically has 6 to 8 Christmas trees in the store, each with its own unique theme.  Every January I would head to the mart to see what the latest trends were and plan my themes for that year.  It might sound crazy but most retail stores purchase their Christmas product in January of each year when all the manufacturers make their new product introductions.  So, the themes for 2014 were set over a year ago and were officially introduced this past January.

We’ll all the decorating is done and all that’s left is for Santa to arrive.
I had lots of fun decorating this year, in part due to the many handcrafted projects I made and incorporated into my décor but also because it was refreshing using classic Christmas colors to decorate with.
I’m not going to give you all the details of the décor (more to come next week) but instead I’m going to let you enjoy the photos.

Christmas DIY: Jingle Bell Ribbon

In my world, when I come across an idea my first thought is not where can I buy that.  My first thought is usually ‘how can I make that?’
When I started thinking about my Christmas décor and began writing down ideas in my ideas book, I knew I wanted to craft a lot of what I’d be decorating with this year.
While at the Country Living Fair in October I spotted this burlap ribbon with jingle bells and knew I wanted to recreate the look for my tree.
