Oh Christmas Tree | Holiday Home Tour 2019

2019 ConfettiStyle Holiday Home Tour

Hi there friends!  In case you’ve been wondering, I’m still alive.  This year has been all kinds of crazy at our house so my blog posts have been sporadic at best.  However, I’m determined to end the year on a high note and am finally sharing my holiday decor with you.

To kick things off, today I’m sharing my Christmas tree decor and tomorrow I’ll be back to share my Christmas tablescape.  The holiday season is my favorite time of the year so I’m thrilled I was able to pull things together and get my home decorated. Yea for taking life one day at a time and getting things done!

If you’ve followed me during the last few holiday seasons, you know that I typically host a holiday blog hop called The Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour.  The tour has been going strong for 5 years but given all the shenanigans life has thrown my way, I decided not to host the tour this year.  Don’t fret, I’m planning to host the tour again in 2020 to bring you lost of holiday decor and magic.

So…with only 7 days until Santa arrives, I’m here to share my holiday home! Enjoy & Merry Christmas!

It’s A Blue Christmas | Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour – Part 1

Happy Holidays and welcome to the 4th Annual Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour.  This year I’m joining 6 of my blogging friends to share lots of holiday decor and entertaining inspiration with you.  There’s a list of all the participating bloggers at the end of this post.

Before we get this party started, I want to give a shout out to Boho Luxe Home who is sponsoring the holiday home tour again this year.  Kellie and Melanie have an amazing company with some of most personality packed home decor items I’ve ever seen.  This year, each of the participating bloggers received products from Boho Luxe Home to include in their decor.  I know you’re going to love the pieces I picked out and I hope you’ll pop over to their shop to see their full product offering.

If you’re coming over from Positively Southern, welcome.  I always love seeing Tamyra’s holiday decor and this year she’s really outdone herself.  She has a beautiful home and come Christmas time it’s even more gorgeous.

Every year I start my holiday home tour by sharing the inspiration for my decor.  This year the jumping off point for my theme was all of the blue & white accessories I have in my home. I love blue & white and have curated quite the collection ever since I started decorating with it about 5 years ago.  The color theme is now the foundation of my decor and I don’t see getting tired of it anytime soon.

I also wanted to add some vibrant color to my holiday mix so I chose green and pink as accents.  I’m so happy with how everything looks and can’t wait to share all the details.  But before we do that, let’s take a look back at the inspiration boards I created earlier this year. I think I executed the plan pretty well.

THE INSPIRATION

***

A Blue & White Christmas

Decorating my Christmas tree is a labor of love and it’s all about the details. I kept things pretty simple this year and decorated with just ornaments and ribbon.  The tree 7 1/2′ tall and there are close to 250 ornaments on it.  The blue & white ginger jar ornaments are my absolute favorite and set the tone for the tree. I also used different shapes of solid colored ornaments along with crystal and glass ornaments that I’ve had for over 20 years.  It was so fun pulling them out of the box and remembering where and when I bought them.

Every year I use two or three different styles of ribbon on my tree.  This I combined a gorgeous velvet and a shiny satin.  The navy velvet is from Frontgate and the emerald green satin I found at a discount store for just $3.00 a spool. The ribbons billow in and out of the tree adding softness and visual movement.  And you can’t tell in these photos but there are twinkle lights on the tree which make it magical at night.

Most of my blue ornaments came from Hobby Lobby and the white ornaments are from Ikea. If you didn’t know that they carry Christmas decor, they do and it’s great.

CHRISTMAS GIFT WRAP

I’ll be sharing my DIY Holiday Wrapping Crate and more gift wrap inspiration later this week, but here’s a sneak peek.

Now let’s move over to the fireplace.  We have a mantel sitting in our garage and I had planned to get it installed this year but it just didn’t happen. So without a mantel, I draped my garland around the fireplace using Command Hooks to hold it in place. I wove the satin ribbon throughout garland and added clusters of ornaments throughout.  And I made a big bow to highlight the center of the garland.

I shared this holiday decorating tip last year but it’s worth sharing again.  Clustering ornaments in groups of three or four is a great way to add impact on a tree or garland.

The only decor I added to the bookshelves flanking the fireplace was to hang a wreath at the center, on each side.  And I hung a Boho Luxe Home Christmas stocking above each cabinet. Aren’t these stockings just gorgeous?  The bottom fabric is the Neela Blue fabric and the top collar is a navy velvet.  The finishing touch is the long handmade tassels that’s wrapped around the hanging loop.  These stockings have definitely become some of my most treasured holiday decor!

The stocking were hung…

The wood rocking horse that I found at HomeGoods last year is all dressed up for Christmas too.  This little horse just puts a smile on my face.

I replicated the mantel garland along the stair rails which run from the 2nd floor of our townhouse to the third floor (aka–lots of garland and ornaments)!  I’ll share more of my stair decor next week in the holiday home tour finale.

With my mom now living in Atlanta and my house fully decorated for the season, I’m planning on sitting back and enjoy every bit of this Christmas season.  I hope you enjoyed the tour.  Be sure to come back next Wednesday for the final of the Merry & Bright Holiday Home tour and more decorating inspiration.

Next up is Love Your Abode.  Yuni is an absolute sweetheart with design talent oozing out of every pore.  I love following her on IG stories and love her style.  Don’t delay, head over to Yuni’s blog and check out our holiday home.  And be sure to stop by the other bloggers on the tour and show them some love.

Unique Christmas Decor Finds To Make Your Decor Extra Special

Happy November friends!  Can you believe that there are only two months left in the year and only 50 days until Christmas?   Boy has this year flown by.  When it comes to Christmas decorating, I know there are two camps–put it up early or wait until after Thanksgiving. No matter where you are with decorating, I wanted to share a few awesome holiday decor items that I’ve come across recently.   From tree decor and gift giving, to entertaining and mantel decor, I’m sure you’ll find and item or you that you’ll love.  And while you’re shopping my picks, have your gift list handy because many of these items make great gifts too!

Favorite Christmas Decor Finds

Monogram Ornaments–I think these monogram ornaments are so darn cute!  I bought a handful to use as gift tags on presents but think they would also be fun napkin rings.  If you like these, you’ll want to get them soon because I think they are going to sell out fast.

Flat Stocking Holder–Finally a stocking holder that won’t compete with your holiday mantel decor.  And if you don’t have a mantel you can use them to hang stockings from a console table or bookshelf.

Buffalo Check Tree Skirt–This black and white check tree skirt is an easy way to add a fun twist to your Christmas decor no matter what your holiday color theme.

Aerin Heart Ornaments–I would buy this set of heart ornaments and break them up into individual gifts for special friends or clients.  The set would also look great in a pretty bowl as everyday decor.

Piles Of Patches Christmas Stocking–This stocking took my breath way.  It’s so pretty and unique!  I love the 3-d elements, fabric mix and the vintage feel that it has.

Ornaments Salad Plates–Every few years I buy a new set of holiday salad plates as an easy way to pair with my classic china. I love the fun vide and colorful pattern on these ornament plates.

Letter To Santa Christmas Mailbox Ornament–Whenever I teach a gift wrap workshop, people ask me for creative wrapping ideas for money gifts.  This mailbox ornament from the Hearth & Hand collection at Target would be great to hold folded up bills or a check.   Just add a gift tag and hang it on the tree and no one will suspect there’s a treasure inside.

Holiday Wreath Christmas Pillow–It’s really had to find a holiday pillow that not all red and green but still feels like Christmas.  I love the embroidered wreath on this velvet pillow.

Joy Napkin Wrap–A few months ago I shared a JOY napkin ring from Frontgate on the blog and so many of you loved it.  Unfortunately it’s no longer available but I found this option that’s just as fun.  It’s available in a gold and silver finish.

Mercury Glass Trees–Just add a string of lights or flameless candles inside these mercury glass trees for an instant centerpiece on a side board or mantel.

Felt Ball Garland–This felt garland would be so cute on a kids tree or draped along a staircase.  I’d also use the garland nestled into a plain glass vase or candle hurricane.

Velvet Ribbon–This velvet ribbon would make great bows to hang on a tree, garland or to use for gift wrapping.

And speaking of ribbon and gift wrap, do you want to take your gift wrap game to the next level this holiday?  If so, I’d love for you to join me for my Creative Gift Wrap Workshop on Dec. 1st, hosted by Steve McKenzie’s and Verde Home.  Full workshop detail below.  Space is limited so get your tickets today on Eventbirte.

Be sure to tune in all week as I’ll be sharing more holiday inspiration and decorating ideas with you.

My 2018 Christmas Theme | Chinoiserie Inspired

Happy, Happy Friday!  Today’s blog post is one of my favorites to share each year.  It’s my annual Christmas theme post where I show you my decorating plans for the holidays.  If you’re a new follower, let me fill you in on my obsession with Christmas decorating.

Ever since I was little, I’ve loved decorating Christmas trees, hanging stockings and wrapping gifts. I remember making ornaments with my dad and sitting in front of the silver tinsel tree in awe. Once I graduated from college and got my first apartment, I couldn’t wait to put up my own tree. And when I got married I started creating a theme for my decor and 27 years later, the tradition continues.

Last year I shared the details on exactly how I develop my holiday decorating theme. And if you missed it, you can see how I decorated using my favorite colors in 2017 and how my 2016 Christmas theme was inspired by wrapping paper.

This year my holiday theme is inspired by my love for blue and white and my collection of ginger jars.  I’m calling my theme…

Chinoiserie Christmas With A Pop Of Pink!

How I Develop My Christmas Theme {and my theme for 2017}

I suspect that I am not the average person when it comes to decorating for Christmas.  There are people who decorate the same way year after year because of tradition or they have their look down pat. And then there are people like me who like to change their decor every year which requires some thoughtful planning.

Before I tell you about my process for planning my Christmas decor, let me share one thing.  Changing my decor every year doesn’t mean that I go out and buy all new stuff.  It means that I decorate with items I already own but use them in a different way.

For instance, last year I combined solid colored ornaments with ribbons to create a simple and colorful Christmas tree.  The only new item I purchased for the tree was the ribbon.

plaid ribbon // red & green ribbon from Costco

In 2015 I used only my red ornaments, some handmade garland and framed photos to decorate the tree.  The only new items on this tree were some monogrammed ornaments I purchased at an after-Christmas sale.

harlequin ribbon // black and white ribbon

Planning my Christmas theme starts early every year.  It actually helps to flush out ideas for the coming year when I take down my decorations and store them away after Christmas.

Here are a few things I think about when developing my Christmas theme:

  1.  What will my color statement be?  I love traditional Christmas colors but I’m also a fan of non-traditional holiday decor.  It’s fun to mix classic colors like red and green with modern colors like royal blue or pink.
  2. What items do I already own?  I take stock of what I already own and use that to guide my decor plan and create a shopping list for of any new items I want to purchase.  Every year I buy a few new things like ornaments, ribbon or tabletop items like plates or linens.  When I’m purchasing ornaments, I like to buy solid colors because they give me the most flexibility year after year.
  3. What areas of my home will I be decorating?   I like to have a touch of Christmas in every room so  I think about each space and how I can add Christmas decor to make it festive.
  4. What impact statements do I want to make?  In addition to my tree, I want a few spots around the house to stand out.  It could be the fireplace, stairs or a special touch in the kitchen.  Identifying these statement areas helps me create my overall decorating plan.
  5. What will my gift wrapping look like?  I love wrapping gifts and always coordinate my gift wrap with my Christmas decor.  In some cases a special wrapping paper might even inspire my theme like it did last year.
  6. And finally, I think about how my decorating theme will work with the other decor in my house.  I want my Christmas decor to reflect the same style and spirit as my everyday decor.

Now that you know my process for developing my Christmas theme, here’s what I have planned for 2017.

Christmas 2017 is going to be bright and bold!

ConfettiStyle Christmas Decor Theme 2017

This year I’m using three of my favorite colors as the theme for my Christmas decor–red, hot pink and bright emerald green. The tree will be decorated with red and hot pink ornaments plus a few white and light pink pieces thrown into the mix.

ConfettiStyle Christmas Decor Theme 2017

I have some fun embellishments planned for the garland that will be draped along the stairs and fireplace.

And I’m keeping my gift wrap pretty simple this year with solid colored paper, satin ribbons and fun package toppers and tags.

And of course I’ll be creating a pretty holiday tablescape to share with you!

As we count down to Christmas, I have lots of holiday posts to share with you, including my first gift guide next week.

And don’t forget to mark your calendars for the 2017 Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour.  Like last year, all of the participating bloggers will be sharing their holiday home tours over a 3 week period starting November 29th.

Oh Christmas Tree–Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour part 1

ConfettiStyle Christmas Tree--2016

I’m back today with another awesome blog hop.  It’s the Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour that I host with my blogging buddy Kellie from Design Asylum.  This is the second year for the  tour and we have an amazing line-up of 12 bloggers taking you on a tour of their holiday homes. If you’re coming over from Meg’s blog Green With Decor, welcome!  I ‘m happy you’re here.

welcome-to-the-merry-and-bright-holiday-home-tour-1

The Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour takes place over next three weeks with today being the first in the series. We’ll be sharing more holiday cheer on Dec. 7th and Dec. 14th so mark your calendars.

Enough with the details…let’s get this party started!

Today I’m showing you my Christmas tree as well as a couple of sneak peeks at some of the other holiday decor that you’ll see next week.

If you remember a few weeks back I shared the inspiration for my holiday decor.  It was this Poinsettia themed wrapping paper from Paper Mart.

2016-confettistyle-christmas-inspiration-001

Every year I change my tree decor and this year I decided to go with a theme that is perfect for the Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour. The red, pink and green in the paper set the tone for my tree decor with a few additional colors thrown in to spice things up.  I’m calling my tree the Merry & Bright tree.

ConfettiStyle Christmas Tree--2016

During the day the bright colors make me smile and in the evening, all lit up the tree is just as beautiful.

ConfettiStyle Christmas Tree--2016

Since the background of my inspirational wrapping paper is black, I decided to use two different ribbons on the tree.  One is a black and white plaid and the other is a two-sided red and green satin.

ConfettiStyle Christmas Tree--2016

To keep things simple, I used only solid colored ornaments in different colors, sizes and finishes. And I layered the ornaments from the inside out to give the tree a full look.

Design Guide: Tips for Trimming Your Christmas Tree

Christmas Decor Theme by ConfettiStyle

When to put up your Christmas tree has become a big debate these days.  Some people (like me) put their tree up early to savor every single bit of the holiday season.  And on the other side of the fence there are people (like my brother) that wait until Thanksgiving to put up their tree.  I can appreciate both viewpoints but the one thing I do know is that anyone that puts up a Christmas tree wants it to look great.

I’ve been decorating trees professionally for years, first at my home decor store and then as part of my design business for clients. Over the years I’ve learned a lot about the art of decorating  Christmas trees. My latest Design Guide, Tips for Decorating Your Christmas Tree shares my tree decorating secrets so you can decorate your Christmas tree like a pro.

Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour–The Finale!

Merry and Bright FINAL

Well friends, it’s sad to see the Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour come to an end.  Over the last two weeks me and the 8 other bloggers that are a part of the tour have shared our Christmas trees, front doors, holiday tablescapes and much more.  I hope you’ve been inspired  by all the holiday merriment.

If you’re coming over from OMG Lifestyle Blog, welcome.  It’s been so fun to see Elaine’s beautiful holiday decor over the last three weeks.I know you’ve enjoyed it as much as I have.

With just 9 days left before Christmas, I can officially say I’m finished decorating!  Today I’m sharing the final holiday touches I added around the house (warning: lots of photos ahead).

BEDROOM DECOR

Christmas Bedroom 2015

One of my favorite rooms to decorate at Christmas is the bedroom.  I love lying in bed at night surrounded by holiday cheer.

I hung a wreath on the headboard and draped the mirrors over the nightstand with holly leaf garland.

Christmas Decor 2015-14

I kept the black and white pillows I had on the bed all summer and added the fur-trimmed tartan pillow from HomeGoods.

One set of standard pillowcases was changed out to red.

Christmas Decor 2015-11

The black and white dot ottoman at the foot of the bed is dressed up with red and green pillows and a red throw.

Christmas Decor 2015-6

I placed the lighted marquee JOY signed I made last year at a Home Depot Do-it-Herself workshop on top of the armoire and draped some garland around it.

The JOY sign is on a timer and I go to sleep each night with the soft glow of the lights.

Christmas Decor 2015-12

I wanted to address garland to my dress form last year but never got around to it.  This year I made it happen.

Instead of fresh greenery, I used artificial greenery sprays and hung them from a belt that is wrapped at the waist.

MY WORKSPACE

I replaced the inspiration board that normally hangs over my desk with this chalkboard and added a small Christmas tree in a brass urn next to the lamp.

MY HOLIDAY GIFT WRAP

After making my mobile giftwrap crate, I got busy wrapping gifts.

In addition to wrapping gifts with paper, I placed some gifts in decorative boxes I picked up at Target and Container Store.  The solid colored boxes mixed great with my wrapping paper designs so I’ve got a fun mix of packages under the tree.

SPECIAL TOUCHES

I framed my childhood stocking after seeing client do this with hers and hung it on my bedroom door.

Christmas Decor 2015-5

I found an oversized brass scales of justice at a thrift store and placed it on the table near the tree.  I set small gifts inside the tray.
