Holiday Candles: Easy Ways To UpStyle Candles For Christmas

Holiday Candles--Three Creative Ideas.001.jpeg.002

via babble

Happy Friday!  I am so glad that weekend is here and I can’t wait to sleep in a bit tomorrow.  It’s been busy in my neck of the woods and while I still have some decorating to do, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  I’m looking forward to relaxing and savoring the season.

Today I wanted to share some creative and easy UpStyling ideas you can use for your holiday candles.  I love having candles in every room but buying a lot of my favorite candles can get expensive.  During the holidays I pair this scented candle and this scented candle with basic candles and candle holders that have been UpStyled to get the look I want without blowing the budget.

Here are a few easy ideas that I hope will inspire.

5 Minute Holiday Doormat

Christmas 2015--Door5

I change out my doormats seasonally but when it was time to put one out for Christmas I realized I didn’t have a holiday themed one that went with this years decor.

What I had was this basic $4.99 doormat I purchased from Ikea last summer.  It was tucked in a corner of the garage most likely waiting to be UpStyled.

and in five minutes I had a holiday doormat with a classic design.

TWO Easy DIY Christmas Ornaments

Christmas Tree Detail1

When I haven’t been decorating for clients I’ve been busy getting crafty and decking the halls at my home.  This year I made a few handmade ornaments from things I already had stashed away.  These ornaments were so simple they should be in the Holiday Decor for Dummies Book.

First up are tinsel filled ornaments.  I bought these clear ornaments two years ago I think and had plans to paint them.  While unpacking my decor this year I came across them and decided to turn them into tinsel ornaments.

All is took was some tinsel garland (mine purchased at Ikea), scissors and something long to push the tinsel into the ornament.  I removed the ornament cap, cut my garland into 4 inch long pieces and used a chop stick to push it into the ornament.

Next I decided to take a stash of holiday coasters I purchased at a Crate and Barrel after Christmas sale and turn them into ornaments. I punched a hole in one corner so the coaster would hang on the diagonal and easy peasy, I had ornaments.

Both of these ornaments add something different to my tree–the tinsel ornaments add sparkle and shine and the coaster ornaments layer in a different shape and dimension.  I’ll be back tomorrow to share my fully decorated Christmas tree in part one of Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour.

Have you crafted any of your Christmas decor this year?

Gift Wrap Inspiration: Washi Tape Ribbon

Washi Tape Gift Wrap by ConfettiStyle5

Over the weekend I shared a photo on Instagram of items I’m sending in a care package to a good friend.  As I do with all the gifts I give, I wanted to created a special wrap for the gift.

I looked through my wrapping paper stash but didn’t see anything I wanted to use so out came the washi tape and in no time flat I had my box wrapped.

I’ve professed my love of washi tape on the blog before but I have to tell you again, it is one of the best crafting supplies you can own.

The beauty of washi tape is that it can be used in so many different ways and it’s perfect for gift wrapping.  To keep things simple, I used the tape instead of ribbon and layered different patterns together to fancy up the box a bit.

I also made a cute gift tag accented with washi tape.  I folded lengths of washi tape together to create flags and then angle cut the ends.  Using double-sided tape, I attached the washi flags to the gift tap and finished it off with a silk flower.

p.s.  the white gift box was part of a box set I purchased from Michael’s.  I love that the lids and bottom are separate and that the boxes are thick and sturdy.  There are 4 different size boxes in the set and they are on clearance right now at 70% off, so the set only cost me $2.99, less a 20% coupon I had.

Step 5:  Coat the top of the plate with Mod Podge to seal the monogram and create a protective surface

In less than 10 minutes (plus the drying time for the mod podge)  you can make yourself a set of these adorable dishes.

There’s nothing better than a crafting session that results in a decorative accessory that can be used in so many ways:

♦  jewelry dish

♦  candle tray

♦ desk accessory

♦  coaster

♦ key and sunglasses dish

♦  nightstand catchall

Happy crafting!

Let’s Get Crafty: DIY Pom Pom Bag Charm

Pom Pom Bag Charm

Hi there,

I hope everyone had a great weekend.  I adore long weekends this time of year because it means road trips, sitting in the sun and sleeping in late.  I’m already looking forward to the next 3-day weekend.

So if you’re wondering why I’m posting so late today it’s because I totally planned to publish this post yesterday (Monday) but with all the relaxing I was doing over the weekend I simply forget to hit the publish button.  And this morning my to-do list got the best of me.  Oh well, better late than never.

Today I’m going to show you an easy craft project to can make.  Ever since I spotted my first handbag charm, I’ve been wanting to make my own.  The first one’s I spotted were from Furbish Studio and they featured little elephants.  Soon after seeing that one I began to see bag charm popping up all over web and Pinterest. Since I’m not into animals or fancy details when it comes to my bags, the simpler bag charms became my favorite.

So the question became,  BUY or DIY?

 I decided to diy!

Making your own bag charms is really simple and inexpensive.  You’ll need the following supplies all of which are available at your local craft store:

Slide1

To make your charms, thread a large yarn needle with the yarn color of your choice.

Insert the yarn into one pom pom and then back again leaving a length of yarn hanging.

Thread a large bead onto the yarn and then tie the yard to your hinge hook at the length you want.  You can also thread a bead onto the base of your pom pom like I did with the blue pom pom.

You can tie as many pom poms onto your hook as you want but make sure to stagger them at different lengths so the charms hangs well.

It took me about 20 minutes to make my bag charm and I just love the way it turned out.  I’ll definitely be making more of these these.

Thanks for stopping by.  See you back here tomorrow.

Gift Wrap Inspiration: 3-D Butterflies for Mother’s Day

Mother's Day Giftwrap2

The inspiration I get for wrapping gifts comes from a variety of places.  Whenever I shopping, reading a magazine or even watching TV, my eys are always focused on litte details that may inspire me. Inspiration can come from a piece of artwork, a spool of ribbon or even a rug pattern.

When I started thinking about how I was going to wrap my mom’s Mother’s Day gift, the card I bought for her became the inspiration.  I loved the butterfly and flower design and the touches of glitter that made the card sparkle.

Mother's Day Giftwrap10

After studying the card, I knew I wanted to create a 3-D version with butterflies and flowers and I found just what I was looking for in the sticker aisle of Michaels.

Butterly Fly Stickers

I picked up a set of butterfly stickers and paper roses, and used a paper mache box, gift wrap and ribbon I already had on hand.  The gift wrap is a beautiful gold embossed diamond pattern from HomeGoods and the ribbon is a reversible satin from my favorite ribbon source MayArts.

Mother's Day Giftwrap13

I wrapped the top and bottom of the box separately in the gold paper and used two different ribbon colors as wraps around the box.

Mother's Day Giftwrap12

The butterflies and flowers are placed in a random pattern on the top of the box and secured with glue dots.

The ribbon is secured under the bottom of the box so it will be easy for my mom to open her gift without messing up the top arrangement.

Mother's Day Giftwrap4

It’s always a treat to send my mom a little something that I’ve crafted and I know she will love her gift and the gift wrap.
