12 Ways to ReStyle Your Home

Happy Monday my friends!  I hope you all had a great weekend.

I’ve been busy the last few days getting ready for a visit from my mom. Since my mom’s back surgery in 2006 she hasn’t traveled much and it’s been about 7 years since her last visit to Atlanta.  My uncle and his family are making a trip to Florida and my mom decided to tag along for the ride.  They’ll drop her off here in Atlanta on their way and she’ll be spending a  week with me and my brother.  I’m so excited to see her and now that my brother is here, it’s going to be week of family fun.

♥♥♥

Anyway, after spending the last few days cleaning, organizing and doing some restyling around the house, I thought I’d share some ideas if you’re wanting to refresh and restyle your home.

Product + Inspiration: A New Blog Series from ConfettiStyle

image

There are two things I really love in life….design and shopping.  Those two things go hand in hand in my book and there’s no better way to share two of my passions with you then in a new blog series called Product and Inspiration.

Similar to “get the look” post that you might see on other blogs, my goal for each Product and Inspiration post is to share a product I love along with inspirational design photos using that item (or something very similar) AND a design tip or two.    I hope you enjoy “shopping” with me and more importantly I hope you’re inspired to decorate your life in style.

Design Lessons from Show Houses and Model Homes

When we lived in Seattle I made it a point to attend the Street of Dreams Show House tour every year.  Yes I went to see what it would be like to live in a multi-million dollar home but I also went to get design ideas.  I also made it a point to tour builders model homes on the weekends to seek out even more design ideas.  Show houses and models homes can be a great source of design inspiration and product sourcing (and buying) if you know how to look beyond the beauty of a space and learn to analyze how a space was put together. Want to know what you can learn about design from show houses and model homes?  Well follow along and I’ll tell you.

First let me say that most show house designs push the envelope with style and are decorated to the hilt.  The designers that do these homes are challenged to make the rooms stand out and have drama and impact.  You’ll often see bolder colors, more elaborate mill work, exotic finishes and over accessorized spaces in a show house.

When it comes to model homes, builders have a completely different agenda when it come to decorating.  Builders want to make the home feel as large as possible and decorate it so that it will appeal to a range of people.  The decor of model homes can sometimes seem sparse and the design details can come off as elementary but there are still a few things you can learn from these model homes.

WHAT YOU CAN LEARN FROM DESIGNER SHOW HOUSES

Designer show houses are filled with all kinds of amazing design ideas, from the latest furniture and accessory trends, unique wall-covering and paint options to custom details that you may not have seen before.  These show houses can also give you an expert lesson in accessorizing and styling a room.

Want to learn the art of coffee table décor, then check out the table arrangements in a show house.  You’ll see how different accessories are grouped together for impact and to achieve a balanced arrangement.

There will be lots of vignettes in a show house so analyze how they are styled and layered for new ideas.

A Collection of Creative Ideas

There is so much more to creative design than how the furniture is arranged or what type of artwork you have on the wall.

Creative design comes in all forms…

The next time you are at the thrift store, don’t overlook those old kids chairs.  A little diy and you can turn them into stylish dog bowl holders that will feel apart of your décor.

There are so many unique uses for old ladders but I’m loving the idea of using one as a jewelry holder.  Just add a mesh screen and you’re done.

If you don’t want to spend a ton of money on flowers but still want a designer look with your flower arrangements, try adding fruit.  Sliced fruit will fill the vase so less flowers are needed and the look will be fresh and modern.

Instead of an upholstered headboard why not consider stenciling a design onto painted wood.  Pretty chic and budget-friendly.

If you like the look of organic art, why not create your own using branches from yard and thrift store frame.  Genius!

I think this would look great at Christmas with the branches coated in sparkly ice crystals or glitter.

Never in a million years would I have thought of this let alone thought the idea could result in something this great looking.

Projects like these really get my creative mind going.

Have a great weekend and let your imagination run wild.
