If you follow me on Instagram, you saw that I took the hubby on a little adventure on Sunday. I learned about a wildlife safari from my friend Yuni and knew my hubby would love it. The safari is about an hour ways from Atlanta and gives you up close and personal interaction with the animals.

Now that the weekend is over, I’ve got a busy week of design work ahead and I’m looking for some fresh inspiration to inspire me.

Favorites Of The Week {a little of this and a little of that}

Happy weekend friends!

I don’t know about you but I can’t wait for spring to get here. When I was driving home the other day I noticed that the The weather in my neck of the woods as been all over the place. One day it’s 40 degrees and the next day it’s 70. I need mother nature to settle down and bring us some consistent warmth and lots of sunshine.

Does anyone else out there listen to Podcasts? It’s my new favorite thing to do while I’m working. I recently discovered #MelRobbinsLive and really loved this one on The Definition of A Winner.

There are so many great blogs out there and I love discovering new ones like Decor Gold Designs. I love Jennifer’s style and her home tour is pretty fabulous.

Favorite Of The Week–An eclectic mix!

It’s Saturday and I’m up early and headed off to the gym to swim. I may not have mentioned it before but I swam competitively when I was younger. Over the years, as life got busy I drifted away from swimming but I’ve been feeling the urge to get back in the pool. And I have to tell you that it feels so good–the water is my happy place.

My Favorite Spaces from The One Room Challenge

Have you heard of the One Room Challenge? Better yet, have you been following the design series? If not, you’ve been missing out on some incredible room transformations and amazing design inspiration.

The One Room Challenge was is a bi-annual blog series started by Linda from Calling It Home and it is now in its 10th season. What started as a design makeover blog hop has turned into one of the hottest design transformation series in bogland. The ORC has become so hot that the series recently attracted sponsors like House Beautiful, Decorator’s Best, Joss and Main, Lamps Plus, Farrow & Ball and Lowes.

Each round of the ORC features 20 bloggers/designers who makeover a space in a 6 week period. The participants select their space, develop a plan and execute the dramatic transformation while sharing the entire design/decorating process weekly on their blogs. To date there have been over 1000 room makeovers by featured and guest participants.

With each ORC I’m always excited to see that beautiful rooms created by the participants.

The latest round of the One Room Challenge just ended and I must say it includes some of my favorite spaces to date so I thought it would be fun to share a few favorites with you today. Check it out and be inspired!

My Favorites:

Claire Brody Designs: My favorite details are the furnishings, the fireplace and the beauty of those white walls.

Design Manifest: This kitchen space went from ho-hum to incredibly chic. I love the bar stools, the lighting and the cabinet door detail.

The Makerista: The wood paneling and trim detail on the walls in this man cave is amazing. And I love the subtle color palette.

My Sweet Savannah: Now this is the way to update a dated bathroom. My favorite details are the glass front cabinets, the vanity mirror, the chandelier, the cabinet pulls, the roman shades….ok, I love it all.

Jill Sorensen: Jill had me at the black, yellow and pop of color so used for the master bedroom. I especially love the gorgeous headboard, the window treatments and the stools in front of the sofa.

My Favorites:

Dimples and Tangles: Jennifer knocked it out of the park with the painted buffalo check wall in her powder room. And you definitely want to check out the wall moulding, the pink door and the acrylic hardware.

Always Rad: I’m so glad I discovered this blog through the ORC. This kitchen transformation is truly gorgeous and I want that banquet eating area and those lighter over the island.

Simple Details: If you love an eclectic mix like I do, you’re going to love this living room. I was really excited to see the coffee table since my mom owns that same table. p.s. take note of the amazing accessories and styling.

Amanda Louise Interiors: This is another new to me blog and after seeing this makeover I’m a big fan. I love the transformation of the TV wall and the over mix of furniture and accessories.

The Crowned Goat: I’m a big fan of office spaces that function well and look good too. This space is ideal of blogging, bills and creativity. I love the styling on the bookcases and rustic chic details throughout.

Design Inspiration: Small Bathrooms with major impact!

Have you ever heard the saying that bathrooms and kitchens sell a house? Well, its true and even small bathrooms count when it comes to design whether you’re selling your house now or will be sometime down the road.

Whenever I’m talking to design clients about re-designing a bathroom my focus is always to add as much style as possible into that space. With larger bathrooms that’s pretty easy to do but with a smaller bathroom space it can be more challenging.

Even with limited space, there are lots of things you can do with structurally and decoratively to add major impact to your bathroom.

Design Magazines–Not Just Pretty Pictures

I admit I have an addiction (a healthy one on my book) to magazines. My addiction is not with just any magazine but with design magazines. Despite the fact that it’s my business to look through magazines, I love holding a glossy in my hands, flipping through the pages and getting caught up in the stories the images tell.

Design magazines are meant to educate and inspire, and for someone who’s decorating their home there are lots of lessons you can learn from the pages of your favorite magazines.

If you are trying to define your design style, magazine images can help you flush out what you like and don’t like. As you go through the pages, flag rooms that appeal to you, circle design elements that you like and identify color combinations that speak to you. Once you gathered up a handful of images, review them and look for the common threads and consistent elements within each photo. The images will point you towards your style and create a clear picture that will help yo decorate your home.
Magazine images depict the latest style, color and design trends and will keep you up-to date on what products you’ll be seeing on store shelves and give you ideas for incorporating those trends into your decor.

You can learn how to style and accessorize your home from the pages of magazines. As you look at room images, take note of how items are placed on tabletops, grouped on bookshelves or how artwork collections are hung on the wall. Most design magazines take an artistic approach with their room layouts so you’re bound to see some really creative accessorizing ideas that just might inspire you to try something new in your own home.
If you’re struggling with the layout of furniture in your home, look at magazines to gather ideas on space planning and how furniture groupings are laid out. Take note of how different furniture styles are used together and how rugs and textiles are used of the room layout.

If you’re not comfortable with pattern mixing, magazine images are a great way to hone your skill. Take not of how different pattern styles that are combined, the scale of patterns and the color combinations. The more you study room designs that include multiple patterns, the more you’ll begin to see the art of pattern mixing come to life.
Look through magazine pages for lighting ideas and take note of how different styles of lighting are used to enhance the decor of a room.

Home decor magazines are one of your best resources for picking paint colors. While you might not find the perfect paint color, you’ll be able to focus in on the family of colors you like for the different room images you see. Once you have a clear color direction, you can narrow down to more specific colors choices to look at for your home.

If you’re lucky enough to have a woodworker in the family, magazines can supply you (and them) with amazing DIY project ideas.
And finally, magazines can make shopping easier or at least make it easy for you to outline a shopping list when you’re ready to decorate your home.

The next time you pick up a design magazine, enjoy the pretty pictures but also spend a little more time studying the images and see how they inspire you.

Happy weekend friends. Can you believe that we are half way through the year? Where has the time gone. Life is moving at such a rapid pace and it’s got me thinking about all of the things I want to get done before summer is over and before the holidays are upon us. I’m hoping to tackle a few projects this weekend, work on my blog re-design and catch up on some work. Oh, and in case you thought it was going to be all work and no play, I do plan to catching up on some magazine reading which is ‘play’ in my book.

FIVE {Easy & Inexpensive Ways} to Jump Start Your New Year at Home

Happy first Monday of 2015!

I’m excited about the 360 days that lay ahead and all that I can accomplish, experience and do this year. I’ve been working on outlining some specific blog goals for 2105 and will be sharing it all with you soon. When I originally started the ConfettiStyle blog, my mission was to share tips, ideas and inspiration in the areas of interior design/decorating, entertaining, gifting and fashion. I’ve stayed true to my vision over the years while expanding a bit and including some DIY and crafting projects as well.

Because these are all things I’m passionate about, I’ve enjoyed sharing my knowledge, ideas and projects and plan to do more of that in 2015. I will also be introducing some new blog series throughout the year, one of which is the basis of today’s post–Jump Starting the New Year!

Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing tips and inspiration to jump-start the new year when decorating your home, to help you entertain creatively, to personalize your gift giving and to help you create your unique fashion statement.

So let’s get going and jump-start the new year!

I know many people feel that same way that I do when Christmas ends.. The tree comes down, the sparkling lights get boxed up, the Christmas music comes to an end and your home feels flat. Christmas can definitely add a magical feel to your home but there are FIVE easy and inexpensive things you can do now to make your home feel magical again as you move into the new year.

No. 1–ReArrange Your Furniture

The new year calls for a new perspective and when it comes to home decor, one of the easiest ways to achieve that is with a simple shift of your furniture. The beginning of the year is a great time to mix it up and change the focus of your room. Try moving the sofa to a new location, switch our lamps and maybe even change the area rug. Go through every room in your home and see what elements can be moved from one room to another. This little exercise is also a great way to reconnect with your design style. As you move things around you’ll begin to notice items that no longer appeal to you or fit your aesthetic. Purge those pieces so in the new year your home reflects only things that you love and that make you feel good.

No. 2–DeClutter and Organize Your Surroundings

I for one cannot function if I’m in a disorganized environment. Whenever my home or office is in disarray it is reflected in my mood and my work efficiency. I grew up with a dad that believed in ‘everything in it’s place, and a place for everything’ and this is my mantra as well. Take the month of January to declutter, purge and organize the areas of your home that you spend the most time in. Start by organizing what is visible to the eye and then move to drawers and hidden spaces.

No. 3–Refresh With New Pillows

A new year often means a refocus on saving money and budgeting. You don’t have to invest in a lot in new decor to give your home a fresh feel for the new year, just refresh your pillows. Add a few colorful pillows to brighten up your sofa and the overall look of your room. Target, HomeGoods and Ikea are my favorite budget-friendly pillow sources and when I’m really on a tight budget, I get crafty and handcraft a few pillows using inexpensive cloth napkins. You can learn how to make a no-sew pillow from one of my favorite bloggers.

No. 4–Surround Yourself With Inspiration

The other day I wrote a blog post focused on having a positive mind which I believe helps in creating a positive life. An inexpensive way to stay positive is to surround yourself with inspirational quotes and artwork. Create a gallery wall in your home office or in the hallway you walk every morning and night. As you walk by your art display, read the words and make them apart of your daily mindset. There are tons of free downloads on Pinterest and great DIY images via Etsy. You can check out my favorite inspirational downloads on my Free Download Pinterest board.

No. 5–Accessorize With Feel Good Items

A great way to energize the new year and keep it going until the last day of December is to accessorize with what I call feel good items. Candles will not only make your home smell good but surrounding yourself with a beautiful scent will do wonders to help you relax and rejuvenate. Gather a stack of books that inspire you or that you want to read this year and incorporate them into your decor. Use the books to elevate decorative items and place a few on your nightstand.
