When Did Sweatshirts Get So Stylish?

How many of you have a stack of sweatshirts in your closet that you pull on in the evening or maybe wear when running errands on the weekend? My stack consist of your typical crewneck style with long sleeves. And I also have a few sweatshirts with my college logo on them just to remind of my wild and crazy college days.

The other day I was walking through Nordstrom and noticed lots of sweatshirts hanging on the racks. These weren’t your typical athletic sweatshirts. These sweatshirts had fun fashion details and came in pretty colors. Every sweatshirt I picked up was cuter than the next and I found myself asking…when did sweatshirts become so stylish?

When athleisure started to grow in popularity, designers began making sweatshirts that had old-school comfort but more fashionable details to meet the trend. Sweatshirts now have ruffles and bows, bell sleeves and are being made in street wear fabrics.

I for one am thrilled with the fashion sweatshirt trend and have already picked up a couple of styles to add to my weekend wardrobe.

Today I’m sharing 6 stylish sweatshirts perfect for the colder weather ahead.

one // When your outfit calls for a more sporty look, the Original Funnel Neck Sweatshirt is what you want. The relaxed turtleneck makes it feel like a mix between a sweatshirt and a sweater. This is definitely weekend lounging material.

two // I’m all about embellishments when it comes to fashion so the Pleione Tie Back Sweatshirt was a must-have. I love the tie detail in the back and the slightly billowy sleeve. It’s adorable and comes in black, burgundy, ivory and navy.

three // The ruffle craze has found its way to sweatshirts. This Ruffle Sleeve Sweatshirt is super cute and I love the pale pink color. And its 40% off right now which makes it a pretty good deal. Here’s a similar ruffle sleeve sweatshirt for only $16.99 which I snagged at a local store.

four // I love, love, love this Tie Front Sweatshirt. It’s a little dresser than the other styles so you could easily wear it with jeans and boots. And I would hesitate to pair it with a pair of cropped black pants either.

five // In case you hadn’t noticed, velvet is a hot fashion trend for fall and winter. This Velvet Panel Sweatshirt is so adorable and great when you need a more polished look.

six // If a full-blown sweatshirt is not your style, how about this cute sweatshirt bomber jacket? The pintuck detail dresses it up a bit but it’s still a great piece to lounge around in.

I popped in to TJMaxx and Marshalls the other day and noticed lots of great sweatshirts styles on their racks. And you can even find some cute styles at JC Penney and Target. This embroidered sweatshirt at JC Penney is only $22 when you use their sale code (39forYou).

Winter Scarves From Nordstrom (budget friendly finds)

I woke up yesterday morning and it was down right frigid outside. The warm weather trend is definitely over and the cool, crisp air of fall is here to stay. One of my go-to fashion accessories when the weather turns cool is a scarf. I am always cold and a scarf adds just the right layer of warmth around my neck and shoulders.

When I was cleaning out my closet in early spring, I tossed a few of my scarves that had seen better days. Now I’m in the market for a couple of new scarves that will work as transitional pieces from fall to winter.

Nordstrom always has a great selection of scarves and I always find what I’m looking for. A recent search of their website served up some great options, most of which are priced between $25.00 and $50.00. And here’s a great tip if you’re looking for fashion scarves on a budget–shop the Brass Plum department. Brass Plum is a shop aimed primarily for juniors but their accessory items are perfect for any fashionista, regardless of your age.

Let’s go scarf shopping shall we…

No. 1 — This Abstract Print Cashmere & Silk Scarf is the most expensive scarf ($99) in my group but I just love the blue and white marble swirl pattern. It’s the perfect scarf to wear with jeans and sweaters.

No. 2 — Navajo prints are a hot trend right now and the Atlas Scarf is a classic take on the design style. This will look great with a chunky sweater, slim jean and ankle boots.

No. 3 — The Fantasy Brushstroke Scarf is another abstract pattern that looks like a piece of artwork. I adore the pink and red color combo and would style this with a denim dress and tights.

No. 4 — If you love graphic patterns, you’ll love this Geo Pattern Woven Square Scarf . This is the perfect piece to pair with a wool coat or quilted vest.

No.5 — I love the grey, ivory and yellow in this Stripe Plaid Scarf and the $29 price makes it even more attractive. I’m definitely going picking this one up.

No.6 — I own this Reversible Scarf and love the two patterns because it like two scarves in one. The scarf is oversized and a little thicker than the others so it works as a great outer layer when a coat is too much.

No. 7 — Have you noticed all the navy clothing in stores for fall and winter? This navy and grey Colorblock Woven Scarf has a classic design and the lightweight fabric makes it really versatile for layering.

No. 8 — I’m all about scarves with all-over patterns and love this Vintage Garden Scarf. This is another one I’ll be adding to my wardrobe.

SEVEN things I’d by during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!

Hey there friends. Sorry I skipped out last week here on the blog but things have been extra busy and I just didn’t have time (or energy) to complete all the blog post I had planned for you. My busy schedule included 5 days at the Atlanta Gift and Home Furnishings show followed by two days at the Blog Life University Conference and I’m tuckered out. I’ll be sharing more about the gift show and the conference later this week but today I’m sharing one of my favorite shopping events of the year, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.

When I lived in Seattle, I actually planned a couple of vacation days around the sale so I could be at the flagship store the day the sale went live. I didn’t want to miss out on any of the deals. Now I shop my local Nordstrom or when I don’t want to deal with the crowds, I hit their website. That’s just what I did Saturday afternoon while I crashed on the couch.

There are so many great items in this years sale but a few really caught my eye and I just had to share them with you.

Here are my top picks from the sale…

A classic backpack is a handbag staple in my book. They are great for traveling and weekend shopping when you want your hands free. I love the sleek lines of this Sole Society Ellie Backpack and the tassel charm on the flap. And you can’t beat the $29.90 price.

Cardigans are my go-to fashion item during fall and this Halogen Cashmere Kimono Cardigan has so much going for it. I love the oversized fit, the soft drape and the fact that is it cashmere. This piece is available in three colors and is on sale for $98.90. ($148 after sale)

I never met a tassel I didn’t like, especially if it’s an earring. These Sole Society Tassel Earrings are such fun and will look great with sweaters this fall. $36.95

The combination of the cord necklace and crystal pendant is what caught my eye. This is a perfect piece to wear day-to-night and with everything from jeans to dresses. Bauble Bar Bijoux’ Pendant Necklace $42.00

I’ve been wanting this Jonathan Adler Zebra Porcelain Stacking Dish for ages and couldn’t pass up the $15.90 price and my new favorite color, navy. The gold version is also available but at a higher price.

In addition to clothing and shoes, you can find some great home decor items in the Nordstrom Sale. This Levtex Diamond Straw Basket is perfect to hold blankets or just about anything you want. $38.90 Available in natural & navy and natural & tan.

An oversized sweater and jeans is the perfect fall outfit in my book. This Halogen Ribbed Cashmere Poncho has a great shape and subtle ribbed texture. Available in 4 colors. $148.90

Insider Tips For Shopping The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Shop early! I can’t stress this enough. Many items will sell out within the first few days of the sale so plan to do your shopping early. p.s. this years sale ends on Aug. 4th.

Did you know that Nordstrom has personal stylist to help you shop? This free service is great if you’re needing special pieces or want pulling together outfits. You can schedule an appointment or ask for an available stylist when you’re at the store. p.s. the stylist have all the inside tips on products and can often find items that are sold out in your area.

For even better deals than you can find in the main for jewelry and accessory department, shop the Brass Plum department. You can find the latest styles and designs at a fraction the price. This tassel handbag didn’t make my top 7 list but is definitely a great buy.

If you’re stocking up on fall clothing, purchase the items you’re interested in, take them home to try on them on and return what you don’t want. The dressing rooms are typically crowded during the sale so take items home so you can try them on in the comfort and space of your own bedroom.

If your local store doesn’t have the size or color you want, a Nordstrom sales person can order the item for you at no shipping cost.

Nordstrom offers samples of almost any beauty product in store every day. During the Anniversary Sale you’ll find limited-edition offerings, plus 300 beauty and fragrance exclusives so just ask for a sample at the counter.

Think Christmas gifts. This is a great time to buy higher priced items and save a little money, especially on handbags, footwear and mens clothing.

Fall Fashion Focus: The Long Vest

Happy Friday!

We’re expecting a bit cooler weather this weekend and even though it won’t be cool enough to pull out my fall clothes, I’m really excited about putting away the sandals and pulling out my scarves and boots. As someone who likes to layer my clothing during the colder months, I also don’t wont to be over-layered or too hot so one of the hottest fashion trends for fall is going to work perfectly for me…

There are so many reasons to love a long vest. It’s the perfect alternative to a chunky cardigan, a stylish option to replace a blazer, they can be worn with jeans or slacks and they are easy to style with flats or boots.

Here are a few of my favorite long vest styles for fall and how I’d wear them:

Style #1: I’d pair this black and white vest with a long sleeve black turtleneck or tee, a classic pair of denim jeans and and a pair of ankle boots.

Style #2: A crisp white shirt, black pants and an animal print loafer would be the perfect pieces to wear with this classic grey duster vest.

Style #3: To keep this teal, purple and white stripe from looking too dark and heavy, I’d wear it with a black tee and lighter wash boyfriend jeans.

Style #4: This black vest has a more polished look to it so it can be dressed up or down. I love the combo in the photo–classic white shirt, denim and an animal print scarf.

I’ve got a bunch of projects to do this weekend but I hope to do a little on-line shopping during the evenings and a long vest will definitely be on the shopping list.

Fashion Focus: Leopard Prints for Fall {Under $100}

When it comes to fashion, fall has to be my favorite time of year. Unlike any other season, fall fashion in general is more timeless and classic which means your wardrobe does not have to go through a major overall from year to year. I love classic pieces like cable knit sweaters, cashmere cardigans and leather ankle boot. Even with all the classic elements, as someone who loves fashion, I always look to incorporate a trend or two into my seasonal wardrobe. This year it seems that leopard prints will continue to reign as one of fall’s hottest trends so I’m on the hunt for a few pieces to add to my closet.

While traveling back from Alabama on Sunday, I did a little online shopping and found some really cute and really affordable pieces.

Here are my top leopard print fall fashions and accessories, all under $100!

You can never go wrong with a pencil skirt and this piece is a great way to add this style trend into your wardrobe without investing a lot of money– Pencil Skirt $24.95

I adore this Short Sleeve Blouse $34.95 and think the leather sleeves make it a home run for fall

Scarves are one of the easiest ways to add a fashion trend into your wardrobe and leopards prints are a great option because the pattern works with solids, plaids and stripes–Leopard Print Scarf$18.00

I typically don’t buy handbags with i n light leather color but the leopard accent and cognac leather bottom on this tote really make it stand out–Leopard Print Tote $88.00
