2016 Fall Tablescape–Autumn Colors With A Twist

est

I’m excited to share my fall tablescape with you today.  If you remember, a few weeks ago I shared the fall inspiration board below.  The vision was a table that included blue and white with pops of orange, white and gold.  Like all inspiration boards, the elements were meant to inspire the pattern, color and style direction I wanted for my table.

Fall Entertaining--Fall Tablescape

Here’s where the inspiration led me…

I had so much fun pulling together this fall tablescape and love the orange and navy color palette even more than I thought I would. In the end I decided to pump up the color impact and use orange and blue in more dominant ways.  I also created a more colorful floral arrangement using sunflowers which are one of my favorite flowers.

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know that one of the most important elements to a beautiful table setting is the layers.  I went all out with this table and included layers from the linens up.  The plush blue tablecloth was made from a remnant piece of velvet I found at JoAnn fabrics.  The orange runner layered on top (it’s actually a tablecloth folded in thirds) was a $5.00 find at a consignment store.  The subtle plaid pattern adds even more visual interest to the table. The last fabric element I added were orange napkins in a slightly darker hue than the runner. The napkins came from HomeGoods.

In creating the place settings, I knew I wanted to use my wood chargers as the foundation. I layered the dinnerware starting with my vintage Blue Willow plates.  Then I added a small wood cheese board and a small blue and white ironstone plate. The wood charger and cheese board add a rustic touch to the table.

I created my floral arrangement in a gold pedestal bowl I bought at HomeGoods last year.  The texture of the bowl resembles the bark of a tree–another visual detail. Surrounding the floral arrangement are different sizes of faux pumpkins, mostly in white and gold.  One orange velvet pumpkin was added as an unexpected element.  Did you notice the feather stems I mixed in with the flowers?  Feathers are a fun fall accent.

To visually elongate the centerpiece, I placed two blue and white ginger jars on each side of the floral arrangement.  The blue and white  chinoiserie pattern plays off the pattern in the dinner plates.

As with most of the tablescapes I create, this one included items I’ve thrifted or purchased for a bargain.  The wood leaf bowl I scored at a thrift store for $2.00 along with the brass candlesticks which were $6.00 for the pair. The white ceramic squirrels I found in the dollar spot at Target. #score

Inspiration Notebook–May 2016

I’ve really enjoyed pulling together images and bits of inspiration for my Inspiration Notebook.  I have to slow down a bit and take a little time to think about the month ahead…what I want to accomplish, what I want to do and what’s giving me inspiration.

I’ve got several things to celebrate this month including my brother’s birthday and my nephews graduation from college.  He’s already got a jump on his career and recently started his own business.  I’m so proud of him.  On a personal note, I’m heading into the month creatively inspired, re-energized with new design projects and looking forward to enjoying the beauty of spring!

Spring Inspiration–Decorating Ideas and Tips

Spring Flowers
I can’t believe the weather we’ve had the last couple of days here in Atlanta.  Spring is definitely in the air and I’m super excited for its arrival.  The other day I was driving and noticed that a few cherry trees had started to bloom and that daffodils are popping up everywhere.  All these signs of spring have me thinking about decorating for the season which is not typically something I do a lot of.  This year though, I want to add a few more spring touches to my decor and rounded up a few ideas and inspiration that just might inspire you too.

When we lived in Seattle there were tulip fields about 60 miles outside the city.  Every year we’d take a drive to look at the beautiful rows of tulips and buy bundles and bundles of tulips for $5.00 ea. The tulip festival took place around my birthday in April so tulips hold a special place in my heart.

FIVE Easy & Stylish Ways To Add Fall Decor To Your Home

Fall Decor

via

I’ve run across quite a few people who don’t want to decorate for fall because they feel with the Christmas season fast approaching it’s too much work to decorate for a just a month or so.   Decorating for fall doesn’t have to be time-consuming, costly or involve lots of work and the ideas I’m sharing with you today are proof of that.

Just a few fall elements can give your home that warm, fuzzy feel that comes with fall.

PUMPKIN ADDRESS TOPIARY

Decorating outdoors can sometimes be easier than indoors, especially if you want to use real pumpkins to decorate with.  I love the idea of creating an address maker with your fall decor.  All it takes is vinyl number and a real or faux pumpkin.  If you’re using a real pumpkin, seal the numbers to the pumpkin with a coat of mod podge.  If a faux pumpkin is your choice, mod podge or a coat of spray varnish with make your pumpkin stand up against the weather.

For a three-dimensional look, screw metal address number directly to the outside of the pumpkin

PUMPKIN FLOWER VASE

Here’s another easy decor item that can be done with a real or faux pumpkin.  Simply create an opening in your pumpkin big enough to fit a glass vase.  File the vase with grocery store flowers and stems from the yard and you’ve got a beautiful centerpiece that can sit on the dining room table, foyer table or coffee table.

I love the look of succulents in pumpkins too!

ADD PLAID

A simple change in the patterns that accent your decor can give your home the feeling of fall.  Plaids instantly create a cozy feeling and visual interest.  And with some many beautiful versions of plaids to choose from, you can easily find colors that fit perfectly with your decor.

FALL FILLERS

Like me, I know many of you own glass vases, cloches and jars and decorating with them for fall is as easy as filling them with seasonal items like pinecones, pumpkins, acorns or leaves.

Flowers, Friendship and Apples!

Floral Design by ConfettiStyle

Hello friends and happy Friday!

I’m popping in late to share what I was up to today.  One of my good friends has recently started a boutique catering business and she asked to me create a couple floral arrangements that will be used in her marketing materials for fall and holiday.

I love flowers and creating flower arrangements is something I love to do so I jumped at the opportunity.

The day started with a trip to the wholesale flower market where I was overwhelmed with all the beautiful stems.  If the cooler wasn’t so darn cold I could have stayed and played with flowers all day but I had to get busy arranging flowers.

Floral Design by ConfettiStyle10

I had a general color theme in mind before I went to the wholesaler so I narrowed in on the stems that would work best for the idea I had in mind.

Floral Design by ConfettiStyle9

In addition to flowers and greenery I also had succulents and apples to work with.

The trick to really dynamic flower arrangments is the mix of flowers, the texture, an unexpected pop of color and unique elements like fruit, pinecones, berries etc.

Floral Design by ConfettiStyle1

I took me about an hour to make two arrangements and here they are:

Floral Design by ConfettiStyle8

The first arrangement is in a vintage brass bowl and really played up the texture within each stem.  I snipped the hydrangea at the last minute from a bush to add volume to the arrangement and is you look closely you can see a succulent tucked amongst the flowers.  Red and green apples are also part of the mix.

The other flowers used include Ranunculus, Dianthus, Bra Viburnum Berries, Veronica and Dusty Miller.

Floral Design by ConfettiStyle7

I love Ranunculus and their fluffy petal added a lot of softness and elegance within the flower mix.

Floral Design by ConfettiStyle6

The second arrangement was built on a 3-tiered galvanized metal stand.  This type of arrangement would be perfect for a buffet setting or larger banquet table.

Floral Design by ConfettiStyle5

What really makes this arrangement special is the succulents.  Succulents add so much dimension and to flower arrangments because of their colors and texture.

Floral Design by ConfettiStyle3

I tucked a few larger leaves around the edge of the stand and let some of the berries and Veronica drape over the edge.

Floral Design by ConfettiStyle2

The red and green apples really add substance and visual impact and the Dianthus (spiky green flower below) adds a touch of whimsy.

My friend Ande and I will be creating more flower arrangments as the holidays near and I’ll be sure to share it all with you here.

5 Grocery Store Items to Decorate Your Home With

Fresh Market

Have you ever gone shopping at your local grocery store for anything other than groceries?  Probably not, but I’m hoping that these ideas will have you looking at your grocery store in a whole new way.

Retail stores, including grocery stores are expanding their product offering to include a variety of decor, home and entertaining items to make themselves a one-stop-shop.  Now it’s easier than ever to find stylish decorative items for your home in the aisles of your grocery store.

let’s go shopping…

Slide1

 # 1  FLOWERS are a no-brainer when it comes to grocery store shopping but I don’t think most of us make the most of the flower we buy.

Grocery Store Flowers

flower buying tips:

instead of buying a mixed floral bouquet, buy a variety of single bunches and create your own custom arrangement

if you’re buying one large mixed flower bouquet, split it up and create several mini arrangements to place around your home (more bang for your buck)

buy greens which will add substance, dimension and visual contrast amongst the flowers

grocery stores often sell orchids for less than you can find them at the garden stores or a flower shop

mix fruit in with your flowers to create robust flower arrangements

#2  OLIVE BOTTLES are an easy way to add style to your kitchen.  The next time you stroll the olive oil aisle, look for decorative bottles with fun labels.

Buy a pour spout to use with your store-bought bottles to make the oils easy to dispense

#3  Decorating with FRUIT is an inexpensive way to add designer style and a major pop of color to your decor.

Grocery Store

Blue and white porcelain is a hot design trend and nothing looks more chic in a blue and white bowl than lemons!

Fruit In a Bowl

get creative and combine different fruits of the same color to create a chic tabletop vignette

#4  There’s something about shopping the UNTENSIL aisle at the grocery store that mesmerizes me.  So many cool gadgets and so many decorating possibilities.

Utensils in Grocery Store

the next time you’re grocery shopping, pick up a few wooden and wire utensils to display in a vintage urn or planter on the kitchen counter

or create a wall display showcasing grocery store utensils and flowers

for a quirky touch, framed a grouping of utensils to add charm to your kitchen

#5 Did you know that you can find pretty LINEN TOWELS are the grocery store?  Yes, you can!

use oversized drawer pulls as a creative hang bar

and for a really creative touch, turn your dish towels into cafe curtains
