Make A Monogrammed Dish in five easy steps!

DIY Monogram Dish by ConfettiStyle2

So you all know I love a good craft project especially one that can be done in three easy steps and takes less than 10 minutes to make.

Step 1:  Buy a couple of white ceramic candle plates from Ikea

note:  standing in line at Ikea will definitely require more time than it takes to make this project

Step 2:  Print vinyl monograms on your Cricut Explore

disclaimer:  my friend Tina just so happens to own a Cricut Explore and gifted me with a couple of monograms for my birthday

Step 3:  Apply vinyl decal to ceramic plate

Step 4:  Add decorative washi tape to the plate

tip:  if you don’t own any washi tape you need to buy some because it can be used to decorate anything

Step 5:  Coat the top of the plate with Mod Podge to seal the monogram and create a protective surface

tip #2:  mod podge is another diy staple you should own

In less than 10 minutes (plus the drying time for the mod podge)  you can make yourself a set of these adorable dishes.

There’s nothing better than a crafting session that results in a decorative accessory that can be used in so many ways:

♦  jewelry dish

♦  candle tray

♦ desk accessory

♦  coaster

♦ key and sunglasses dish

♦  nightstand catchall

Happy crafting!

This Is Why I Invest In Pillows

ConfettiStyle Spring Bedroom Refresh6

Last week we were doing some purging around the homestead and my husband stumbled upon my pillow stash. At first he didn’t know what he was looking at but as soon as he realized the stack of fabrics were pillow covers he asked a question as only a husband can do–why are you hoarding pillows?

ConfettiStyle Spring Bedroom Refresh1

I immediately gave him a look (as only a wife can do) and told him I wasn’t hoarding, I was investing!

You see, as someone who likes to change-up the decor often, pillows are one of my go-to style solutions.  Just like paint, pillows are a quick, easy and cost-effective way to change the look of a space.  Whether it’s your bedroom or the sofa, a change of pillows can allow you to change the color, style or mood of a room in a flash.

To show you (and my hubby) what I mean, I pulled out some of my pillow covers to show you how easy it is change the look of our bed with just a switch of pillows.

I have a few more pillow covers that I didn’t show but you can see how easy it is to get a new look for your home with simple changes.

A few design tips to keep in mind when shopping for pillows:

*** buy pillow covers only which will allow you to easily change out your pillows from season to season or whenever the mood strikes

***use your patterned pillows to pull accent colors from and then buy solid colored pillows in those colors

***invest in a classic striped pillows which will mix and match with everything

***invest in a bold, graphic pattern that can mix with florals and other non-graphic patterns

***think about every room in your home that has pillows and buy pillows that can work in multiple spaces

West Elm–you’ll find lots of modern patterns, solid basics and traditional textures

Etsy–this is the place to shop for pillows using designer fabrics–Stuck on Hue has one of the best assortments

Pottery Barn Kids–a great source for novelty styles, bright colors, faux fur and whimsical shapes, many of which are appropriate for an adult space

And don’t forget to invest in good quality down pillow inserts.   My go to sources are Pottery Barn Outlet, West Elm and Fabric.com

Printable Art–My Love Note Designs

Slide2

Thank you for all the wonderful comments on our spring bedroom refresh.

Today I wanted to share a little more about the beautiful prints I used in the bedroom.  I knew I wanted to place a grouping of images on the wall next to the window and closet to my side of the bed.  You see that wall when you enter the room so I wanted to make an impact.  I also knew that whatever I hung I that wall would be hung in gold frames.

Since one of the goals for the refresh was to add more accents of gold into the space, frames were an obvious and easy solution.

ConfettiStyle Spring Bedroom Refresh12

All four of the prints I used are from an awesome Etsy shop called MyLoveNotedesigns.  The shop is run by Christina who personally designs all of the printable art, many which contain inspirational words and positive messages.  Christina opened her Etsy shop in 2014 after starting a family and leaving an accounting career and the corporate world behind.  Christina said she started designing her prints as a way to inspire and remind herself of what is meaningful in life and to personally connect with others.

ConfettiStyle Spring Bedroom Refresh9

The collection of prints I choose to use were perfect for a bedroom space and also allowed me to add a touch of personalization into the room.  The LOVE print is one of my favorite designs and gold foil is so pretty once printed.  The HEART of flowers couldn’t have been more perfect for our room with a black background and pink flowers.  I also choose a monogram print and love how Christina has added flowers to give the design a special touch.  The last design in the group reads All Of Me Loves All Of You and I love both the message and the delicate details of the design.

Once printed, I placed each image in a Ikea frame which I spray painted gold using Rustoleum Bright Coat Spray Paint (which happens to be my favorite gold spray paint)

ConfettiStyle Spring Bedroom Refresh22

I’ve purchased several printable images from Etsy in the past and I must say that the collection of designs that MyLoveNotedesigns offers is one of the best.  There are over 450 designs to choose from including gold foil, nursery designs, calendars, meal planners, expense trackers and weekly planners and most of the designs are $5.00 or less.  And, Christina also offers custom orders if you have a specific design in mind.

Because there are so many great prints, picking your favorites will be tough but you can use my list of top 10 to help you shop…

Are These Trends Over-Exposed??

Scalamandre Zebra Wallpaper

One of the things I’ve noticed since I started blogging is that when a popular blogger decorates with hot design trend, it starts showing up all over blogland in one bloggers home after another. As I designer, I’m exposed to the trends more than the average person and while I find myself gravitating towards what’s ‘hot’, I’m starting to feel like some design statements are becoming overused.

What I see happening is that homes are losing their unique personality because everyone is jumping on the same bandwagon.  And it’s also happening in fashion too!

Take the black and white Ikea Lappljung pattern.  First it was the pillow

Ikea Lappljung Pillow

and then the rug.  Or did the rug come first?   It wouldn’t surprise me if every home in American owned one or both of these items.

(I own the pillow)

And I’m not even going to mention the Vargyllen pillow.

Now let’s take a look at six trends that may be reaching the level of over-exposure…

I’m seeing this Malakos Malachite pillow showing up in so many bloggers homes and on the pages of magazines. Malachite has been a major trend for several seasons now  and while malachite furniture can be pricey, in a pillow the trend becomes something everyone can afford.

Ok, how many of you have seen this Eliza J Scarf Print Maxi dress showing up on fashion bloggers feeds over the last two weeks.  I think this is the ‘it’ dress of the summer and will be showing up at parties, soirees and even blog conferences across the country.  I spotted the green version at Dillard’s a few weeks ago and even considered buying it myself.

It appears that a hot commodity in bedding these days is the black and white Linden Duvet from Crane and Company.  I’ve seen multiple bloggers/designers using this set in recent bedroom designs and I think it just highlights the fact that black and white color palettes are popular right now and classic will always be in style.   I love this bedding but I’m going to put a twist on the look for my spring bedroom refresh that I’ll be revealing next week.

Need a little something to hang on the wall?  Well, how about the Beverly IV Tropical Palm Leaves image that is showing up in droves across blogland. It’s bold and dynamic, and fits in with the bohemian modern decorating style that so many people are loving these days.  If the art is a bit much for you, this pattern is also trending in pillow form and as a wallpaper.

Another super hot wallpaper design is the Cole and Company Birch Tree pattern.  It’s being used in just about every room of the home but I especially love it in a bathroom.  It’s fun to see such a unique look become so popular.  If you’re interested, you can purchase the UK design wallpaper from Anthropologie here.

When it comes to flooring, this Basket Weave Tile just might win for tile of the year.  The black and white color combo is classic and easily mixes with any accent color.  While the tile might be most suited for the bathroom, I must admit I also like it as a kitchen backsplash.

So, what’s your take on these trends becoming over-exposed?  Are you one to join in on the fun or are you doing your own thing?

Product + Inspiration: A New Blog Series from ConfettiStyle

image

There are two things I really love in life….design and shopping.  Those two things go hand in hand in my book and there’s no better way to share two of my passions with you then in a new blog series called Product and Inspiration.

Similar to “get the look” post that you might see on other blogs, my goal for each Product and Inspiration post is to share a product I love along with inspirational design photos using that item (or something very similar) AND a design tip or two.    I hope you enjoy “shopping” with me and more importantly I hope you’re inspired to decorate your life in style.

Let’s Go Shopping: 12 Must-Have Items From Ikea

I ventured out to Ikea last Friday after having stayed away for several months.

Ikea Shopping Bag

A trip to Ikea is not typically something you just do on the spur of the moment.  There are a couple of things you’ll need to do before heading to Ikea…

 1) You have to think about the day and time to go (in order to maintain your sanity)

and

2) if you’re married, you have to get the hubs on board at least a week in advance so that he can store up some patience for what is sure to be a few hours of browsing, oohing and awing and creative brainstorming. Oh, and you just might have to promise to take him out to lunch and you pay for it…just saying!

With both to-do’s check off my list the hubs and I headed to Ikea.
