Design Trends Come Alive at the ASO Decorators’ Show House

Hello and welcome to a new week!  As you may have noticed, the blog has been a little silent the last few days.  Last week was one of those weeks when my schedule got the best of me and blogging got pushed to the side.  Despite everything and a week of rainy days, I had a good week and got lots accomplished.

One of the fun things on my schedule last week was a preview event for the Atlanta Symphony Decorators’ Show House.  Along with select designers and bloggers, I was invited to a private tour of the home before it opened to the public.  Having attended many of the ASO show house over the years, I must say at this years’ show house, Chateau Soleil is one of my all-time favorites.

Let me take you on a little tour….

Chateau Soleil

Built in 1998 and designed by architect William T. Baker, the 14,000 sq. foot French style estate sits on 2 beautifully landscaped acres.  Named for its sunny, golden façade, Château Soleil is a show-stopper both inside and out.

There is just something about a garden bench nestled amongst tress in the yard or cozied up on a front porch. In addition to adding architectural interest in your yard, a decorative garden bench is a perfect way to personalize your outdoor living space.

Happy Friday!

I’ve got some great links for you to enjoy today but first I wanted to say Thank You to everyone that took the time to wish me Happy Birthday here on the blog, Facebook and instagram. You really know how to make a girl feel special.   I spent the day with a good friend shopping Scott’s Antique Market, received lots of cards and a special gift in the mail from another friend and had a relaxed dinner at my favorite Mexican restaurant with the hubby. All in all, it was a great day!

Nightstand Vignettes

IMG_1302

Can you tell that I have night stands on my mind?

I’ve been thinking about changes I want to make to the decor on our nightstand.  I’ll be keeping the mirrors but can’t decide the direction I want to go with the accessories.

Do I keep the accessorizing to a minimum like this?

Or go for a layered look something like this?

When it comes to decorating your nightstand is your style ‘less is more’ or ‘more is better’?

Painted Nightstands

As part of my master bedroom refresh I’m working on, I’m considering painting the nightstand.  The wood and details on the nightstand are really nice so I’m struggling with giving it a new look or keeping it as is.

I don’t have a photo where you can see the full piece but you can get a feel for it here.

Naturally as part of my decision-making process I went looking for some inspiration.

Here’s what inspired me…

I love the look of this piece with the gold accent but don’t know if my piece is large enough to pull off this look.

Crystal knobs and gold trim similar to the details on this piece might work but then again it might be too contemporary for our space.

I love the look of these oval brass handles and think that kind of detail would work great on our piece.

Or maybe some decorative drawer pulls??  This piece has similar lines and details to our so this might be the winner.

So many ideas to consider and one big question to get answered…will the hubs let me paint a perfectly good wood piece?

Stay tuned.

Product + Inspiration: Vintage Brass Trays

 Faux Bamboo Brass Tray

I’m loving my new series, Product + Inspiration and I’m really excited to bring you this latest post which marries my love of vintage, brass and trays.

Brass trays are always on my radar whenever I’m antique shopping and in my book they are one of the best values when it comes to vintage decor.  Trays in general top the list of practical and versatile accessories and the list of decorating ideas using trays is endless.

My favorite brass tray style is faux bamboo because of the classic details but if that look is not for you, there are lots of other styles you might run across.

Let me inspire you…

Spring Bedroom Refresh–The Plan

Hello there!

I hope your weekend was a good one. I got some work done, made a dent in my magazine stack and the hubs and I finished watching season 2 of the Orange is the New Black.  We are anxiously awaiting season 3 which is supposed to debut sometime in June.

I just wanted to drop in today to share the plans for my spring bedroom refresh.  Because I’ve decorated our bedroom on a foundation of black and white and use color as the accent, I get the urge each season to change the accent colors.  It’s a good thing I love color and love to change-up my decor.

What started as a love for these pillows (which I may have shown you before) and the assurance from the hubs that he could embrace pink…

Pink Rose Pillow

has turned into a plan to freshen up the bedroom for spring.

Here’s what I have planned:

New black bedding (some custom and some diy)

New pillows for the bed (oh how I love pretty pillows)

Create a gallery wall with LOVE as the theme (I can’t wait to share the incredible source of these beautiful images with you)

New accent pieces to introduce more gold into the room

I’m hoping everything falls into  place because I love the feel of the inspiration board~

Stay tuned, I plan to have the makeover done by mid-April.
