A Lighting Company that’s so much more!

Rejuvenation Lighting (3)

On a daily basis my mailbox is filled with catalogs.  I try my best to flip through each one but often times they get laid to the side and then in a moment of de-cluttering they get thrown in the trash.

The other day I received the Rejuvenation Lighting & House Parts catalog in the mail and immediately stopped, dropped and looked at every page.  The cover image is what caught my attention and I couldn’t wait to learn more about this lighting and home line.

Rejuvenation House Parts was founded in 1977, but the story really begins in 1975 – when Jim Kelly purchased a condemned saloon in a rough-hewn Portland, Oregon neighborhood for $1,000. During two years of extensive renovations, Kelly had a difficult time finding the lighting and house parts he needed to preserve the historic character and details of his small building.

Recognizing an opportunity, he decided to use his small storefront to serve the needs of like-minded old-house renovators. After borrowing $2,500, he opened what was essentially a specialized junk store selling architectural salvage – things like doors, windows, light fixtures, clawfoot tubs. Using antique fixtures as models, he hired his first “manufacturing” employee to start making basic reproduction Victorian and early 20th-century ceiling fixtures and wall brackets.

By 1982, strong demand encouraged Kelly to create a mail-order catalogue. In 2011, Rejuvenation joined the Williams-Sonoma, Inc. portfolio of brands. Today we offer a wide range of products, including furniture and home décor, and have four retail stores.

At first glance Rejuvenation is a lighting company but boy-oh-boy do they have so much more to offer.

Guest Bath Update Reveal and A GIVEAWAY!

Guest Bathroom Update (24) copy

I just love it when a project comes together.  After finishing my stenciled shower curtain, I set about pulling together the accessories to use in our guest bathroom.

The bathroom is all white so I had a clean and crisp color palette to work around.  Since the black and white shower curtain is a bold graphic pattern, I wanted to keep the rest of the accessories elegant and pretty.  The color palette is black and white with accents of gold, pink and grey.

I loved using the Drifting Arrows stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils to create my custom shower curtain.

I placed a grouping of decorative accessories on the vanity and this gold leaf tray is the star of the show.  It is so gorgeous!

I placed a vintage brass stool I found last year at an antique store next to the tub.

I had this framed chalkboard and hung it on one of the side walls.  The quote adds a little whimsy to the decor. The gold frame helps to tie all the gold elements together.

I painted the shower curtain and changed all the decor in the bathroom when the hubby was at work and boy was he pleasantly surprised when he came home.  We both love how the space turned out.

I hope you are inspired by our little bathroom update. I’ll be sharing more bathroom decorating tips with you next week, including how to make a simple bathroom look more expensive.

Design Crush: Studio McGee

The internet is amazing!

Have you ever stumbled upon a room photo where a single item like lighting has caught your attention?    You click to find out more about the lighting and fall into a black hole of design.  Well it happened to me recently after I saw the light fixtures in this work space but instead of falling into a black hole I found myself in a place a bliss!

Studio McGee6

The shape and gold finish of these light fixtures caught my eye and the work space was also intriguing.  A few clicks later and I found myself on the website of the design team behind this simple but beautiful space–Studio McGee.

If you’ve never heard of Studio McGee before, let me give you an overview.  Studio McGee is a design company run by husband and wife team, Syd and Shea.  Fueled by Shea’s love of design, the two started the their own design business and have been creating beautiful spaces ever since.

What I love most about the rooms design by Studio McGee is the clean, crisp esthetic and the use of vibrant color accents.  Many of the spaces incorporate black walls which can sometimes be a challenge but they seem to have found the formula for using black in just the right way.  I also love that when designing a room, they use a mix of modern and traditional elements which keeps their spaces looking timeless instead of trendy.

Love the pops of color and brass accents.

Patterned Draps

Sometimes we get so use to seeing a design idea executed one way but when we see a new take on that idea, we take notice.   How about using a patterned curtain panel as the center framed by solid curtain panels?  What a fresh idea!

Decorating with Things You Love

Decorating with Things You Love

Style at Home

I love talking to women who are in the process of decorating or re-decorating their home.  It may be their first apartment, their first house or a house they have lived in for years.  Regardless of their living situations, I always offer up my best piece of design advice which never changes–Decorate With The Things You Love!

With a slew of home decor stores, catalogs, websites and blogs to provide design inspiration, I think many people lose sight of this golden rule.  Decorating with the things you love goes way beyond a favorite accessory piece or framed family picture, it’s about creating a home filled only with things that enrich your life, your body, your mind and your soul.
