My Recent Thrifting Finds–Thrill of the hunt!

Happy Thursday friends. This week has flown by but as promised, I’m back to share my latest thrifting finds with you. Last week the hubs and I shopped Scott Antique Market and I popped into one of my favorite flea markets.

At Scott, I stopped by to see ‘my guy’ as I affectionately call one of the dealers. His treasures aren’t displayed in a fancy way but are simply strewn across tables for you to rummage through. It’s definitely the thrill of the hunt in his space.

As I walked from table to table I didn’t see much at first but then I came across this blue and white jar. It already own another one just like this and since they are both missing their lids I’m planning to use them as flower vases.

Another great find were these gorgeous English Ironstone transferware plates. I paid $15 for the set of 8 which were all in perfect condition. These will be perfect for a fall or Thanksgiving tablescape.

These art deco Black Tiara Glass Candleholders were just $5.00. They will be fun to use with my black and white dinnerware when setting the table for entertaining.

.This last piece I scored at a flea market/thrift store I shop at often. It was sitting outside with a couple of small tables stacked on top of it but it immediately caught my attention. Hello gorgeous bamboo table for only $30!!! The table was in great shape and just needed a quick cleaning. Right now I have it on my side of the bed as a night stand but I have a couple of other places it might work too.

Shopping antique and flea markets are one of my favorite things to do especially when I come across great pieces.

Treasure Hunting At Scott Antique Market

I did something last week that I haven’t done in a very long time. On Friday the hubs and I met up with my friend Montina and her husband JP at Scott Antique Market. Guys, I haven’t been to the market is over a year and was so happy to carve some time out of my schedule to finally make it back.

Shopping Scott Antique Market is one of my favorite things to do. The market is open in Atlanta the second weekend of every month and shopping it always leaves me inspired and lighter in the pocket book. I did buy a few small items and spotted a couple of furniture pieces that might work in our house.

Treasure Hunting At Scott Antique Market

It’s been quite a while since I’ve visited the Scott Antique Market and even longer since I’ve done a post about the market.

Last Thursday I woke up and decided to make the trek down to Scott’s to check out the show and see if I cold snag any great pieces. The Scott Antique Market is definitely one of my favorite antique shows and every time I go I’m wowed by all the vintage, antique and sometimes new pieces that the dealers have. This market I spotted lots of great pieces…

There were a lot of really great oversized mirrors. I can envision this beauty in a foyer or positioned at the top of a stair landing.

One of the great things about the Scott Antique Market is the number of custom furniture dealers that attend. If you have a challenging area or simply desire a custom piece, you can find many options at this market.

I loved this upholstered banquet which if just made for a breakfast or dining area.

The turned wood arm-chair with grey linen fabric. Perfect for a beach house.

My friend Julie whose an upholsterer and owns The Upholstery Fashionista is known for her faux animal skin upholstered pieces. She sells pieces in this fabric every month and these chairs were her newest pieces. She’s also known for the details she puts in every piece like the burlap back and sides of these chairs.

I spotted a lot of great farm tables this show.

A pretty bench cushion sofa with great lines and a tufted back.

I adored this bench and the fabric it was in.

The table would make a great kitchen island.

Lots of classic vintage furniture with beautiful hardware and details.

Check out the carved wood detail on this piece.

A beautiful buffet with gorgeous carved doors.

There is always lots of blue and white chinoiserie pottery. This bowl was oversized and I loved the octagon shape.

These foo dogs were super-size.

Lots of blue and white ginger jars and vases.

This dealer has the most gorgeous preserved flowers and arrangements and his booth is always packed.

I’m on the hunt for vintage Japanese calligraphy brushes but these were incredibly expensive so I passed.

One of my favorite dealers always have unique bottles and jars. Most of these were $35 or less.

If you love industrial pieces you’ll find lots to choose from at Scott.

May of the outdoor dealers sell vintage olive buckets which can be used for plants, magazines or just about anything.n

There is always an abundance of wood crates..some old and some reproduction.

One of the permanent outdoor dealers always have a good collection of brass door hardware.

I’d love to create a wall display with a grouping of these brass numbers.

I’ve mentioned before that the market is made up of two buildings so there are hundreds of dealers to shop from and you never know what you’ll find. There are a couple of dealers that I always shop with and here are a few of the pieces I scored this market.

I wasn’t really looking for anything for me this show but was focused on finding a few items for my Etsy shop. But I did find a few things I’m going to keep.

I sell a lot of these silver-plated toast rack so I buy them whenever I come across a great deal. I also bought this brass shell dish which need some major polishing and this pewter pineapple dish. All of these items will be going in my shop.

Vintage globes are hard to come across at a good price so I was happy to find this one for less than $10.

I bought this pair of brass candle holders for $6.00. Score!

And lucked upon this brass book stand. I’ve sold 3 or 4 of the in my shop before.

I scored this beautiful oversized blue and white vase for $10–another great find.

And I’m always on the hunt for Christmas items for the shop. These napkins were just .50 cents each.

And my favorite finds of the show were these acrylic drawer pulls for just $2.00 each! These babies and big and chunky and I’m keeping these.

And these Staffordshire Dogs which I scored for $20.

I must say, I had a pretty good haul this show.

If you’ve never been to Scott Antique Market before but are planning a visit, here are few shopping tips:

Tips for Scott Antique Market:

* The market opens at 10:30 on the second Thursday of each month (but get there about 20 minutes early as they tend to let cars in early)

* There is a shuttle bus (Fri, Sat, Sun) that will shuttle you between the two buildings (runs about every 15 minutes)

* There are food vendors on site and some of them look really good.

* If you want a great deal, shop the outdoor vendors. Many of them shut-down when the weather is not but those that stay open are willing to negotiate.

* Bring cash–a lot of vendors take checks but you’ll get a better deal if you’re negotiating with cash–{cash machines on site}

* Saturday night of the market there is an auction that takes place where great deals can be had. More details here.

* Bring your own tote bags or rolling bags. Most vendors have hand-me-down plastic grocery bags for you to put your treasures in.

* Plan on spending a full day at the show to see both buildings and the outdoor spaces.

Treasure Hunting at Scott Antique Market (and a few regrets)

It’s been months and months since I was able to carve out some time to go to Scott Antique Market but last Thursday I made time in my work schedule to make it happen. Boy have I missed treasure hunting at one of the best antique markets in the country.

This show as a bit different from most as many vendors decided to attend the World’s Longest Yard Sale instead of Scott, which happens the same weekend every August. Even with fewer vendors, there were still lots of great things at the market.

Here’s a look at some of the pieces I spotted while treasure hunting...

The market always has a great selection of vintage and handmade furniture in every design style so it’s a great place to shop if you’re looking for something really unique. These tiered end tables were really stunning and I could totally see them being used as night stands.

One of my favorite chair vendors is always stocked with beautiful linen and burlap dining and occasional chairs. I loved the woodwork detail on the back of this one.

Pillows, pillows everywhere with lots of vendors selling pillows in neutral fabrics.

This vignette caught my eye. I have a pair of those wood risers but never thought about using them to elevate lamps.

There were a couple of ceramic vendors with the most beautiful Japanese pottery. Most of the pieces were on the expensive side so I passed but lots of people were snatching up ginger jars and bowls.

One vendor had nothing but blue and white but again it was pretty pricey. If I remember correctly, the ginger jars along the front were $125.

I loved this lamp because of the shape–I think it was around $100.

This mirrored chest was a beauty and on sale!

I saw more mid-century modern pieces at this market than I’ve seen in the past. The details on this table and chair set grabbed my attention and the fact that it was also in pristine condition.

Like I mentioned before, you’ll find every style of furniture at Scott including lots of farmhouse/rustic pieces. Some of these pieces are vintage and others are handmade to look vintage.

This cabinet was really pretty although the color was not to my liking. And check out all those cut stools on top of the cabinet.

Here’s a beautiful chunky farm style dining table.

There are lots of industrial pieces at this market too. I loved this metal storage cage and could just image this in a mud room or garage to hold shoes and stuff.

I usually don’t walk away from Scott’s having seen any big trend statements but this chair has me thinking that lavender is going to be a popular color for 2016.

One of the things I always do when I walk the market is to keep an eye out for diy inspiration. I spotted this framed wall sconce and thought it was a great way to UpStyle a thrifted light fixture

Scott Antique Market is a big place, consisting of two buildings and outdoor spaces. There’s so much to see and sometimes my philosophy of “if you love it, buy it” gets pushed to the back of my mind as I walk the aisles. Inevitably that results in a few market regrets and this trip was no exception.

Here’s are three things I wish I had bought but didn’t…

These lamps were amazing!!! They were in great condition, I loved the shape and bonus–there was a bulb socket inside the basket so that lamp could be lit both on top and under the wicker. And, they were only $75 for the pair. I know…I’m still kicking myself.

Another regret were these vintage grain sacks. They were priced between $25 and $29 and in good condition.

The only saving grace with these is that the vendor is a monthly regular and will probably have them again at the Sept. show.

I spotted these vintage wood blankets and was mesmerized by how gorgeous they were. I wanted the second stripe from the right, on the top row.

So folks, that’s a quick summary of my treasure hunting adventure at Scott Antique Market. I’ve got my calendar cleared for the September show and have my fingers crossed that some of my regret items just might make a second show appearance.

Monday, Monday! Are you ready to make this week great? I am! I’ve got a couple of business meetings this week, lots of projects to work on and more flea market shopping planned for the end of the week. It’s going to be a busy week and all I can say is that I hope the snow that is predicted for Atlanta doesn’t become the mess it did two weeks ago.

Today I’m sharing some of the great stuff I spotted last week at Scott Antique Market. It’s no secret I love going to this market and after missing it for two months in a row I was excited to hit the show and see what treasures were awaiting. Over all it was a good show. During the early months of the year many of the vendors sit out of the show but despite some empty spaces there was lots of great stuff for sale.

I was a bit camera happy this market so I’m going to break my recap up into two blog post. Today we’ll be taking a look at the accessories and decorative objects I spotted and later in the week I’ll bring you a recap of the furniture I saw along with some tips for shopping this massive market.

These dough bowls are always a hit at Scott’s and even though I already own one, I’m tempted every show to get another. They are well priced, under $100 and are really large.

I loved these fretwork screen panels and think they would look good painted a chippy cream or antique green. These were available from ‘my guy’ so I can only image the price was great.

Yes please on this vintage library card file. Oh how I’d love this for storing my loose beads and jewelry findings.

There is always lots of vintage cookware and kitchen accessories for sale.

This stunning reclaimed wood mirror was $375 and at approx. 7 1/2′ tall that is a great deal.

It must have been typewriter day at Scott’s because I saw so many of them for sale.

Love these wicker Demijohns ($30-$45). Every show I stop by and admire and have yet to pull the trigger.

Globes galore. Some better than others and most overpriced.

I loved this blue wall cabinet.

One of my favorite pillow resources. They have several bays of pillow covers, sorted by color.

My dear friend Steve has an amazing assortment of beautiful antique accessories and found objects. These tortoise shells are a fave of mine.

I saw the most amazing collection of shells, coral and starfish this show.

Anyone need antlers? You’ll find them at Scott Antique Market.

These glass buoys were beautiful. They would look pretty great in one of those large dough bowls.

Should have picked up a few of these vintage spools. I they sell well in my Etsy shop and the price was great. Next time!

Steve also have some great lighting. These brass and copper pendants were really nice. {check out that wall cabinet too}

And who doesn’t love a vintage pizza board? Actually it was the fixture that caught my eye but the entire set-up is pretty great.

I’ve mentioned before that the Scott Antique Market takes place the second weekend of every month. There are two buildings and outdoor spaces as well. During the colder months I tend to skip the outdoor spaces but you can usually find some good deals there if you’re willing to deal with the weather.

I’ll be back later today with the before and after shots of some of the organizing I’ve done around the house. When you fall off the organization bandwagon it takes time and energy to get back on! I’m exhausted but happy to have things in order.
