THREE Creative Ways To Decorate With Wrapping Paper

Creative Ways To Decorate With Wrapping Paper

It’s no secret that I love wrapping paper. And you may have even noticed that from time to time here on the blog I use wrapping paper for more than just wrapping gifts.

Creative Ways To Decorate With Wrapping Paper

When I received this beautiful gift wrap from Paper Mart in November I knew immediately I wanted to use in my holiday decor.  So I got creative and here are a few ways I decorated for the holidays with gift wrap.

♦♦

No. 1:  GIFT WRAP TABLE RUNNER

A gift wrap table runner is a no-brainer and such an easy and inexpensive way to dress your table.  The poinsettia wrapping paper is perfect as a runner because of the all-over pattern and bold colors.  You may have noticed that my table scape is different from what you saw in the Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour.  I made a few simple changes to give my table a new look.

No. 2:  GIFT WRAP TRAY LINER

Another creative way I used the wrapping paper is as a liner to a serving tray.  This is such an easy way to UpStyle any tray to match your seasonal decor or a party theme.

NO. 3:  GIFT WRAP PICTURE FRAME MATT

Another one of my favorite decor ideas using gift wrap is to use the paper as a decorative matt in a frame.

And here’s a few other ideas for decorating with wrapping paper…

♦  Make seasonal pennant flags to hang from the mantel

♦  Wrap plain pillar candles to make them more festive

♦  Line drawers or cabinets

♦  Wrap books for a decorative book cover

♦  Use wrapping paper as a wall paper alternative in a small room or closet

♦  Frame it and hang as artwork

With only 10 days until Christmas, I know some of you still have decorating and wrapping to do so I hope you’re inspired by this gift wrap inspiration.

I’m  back with the final post in the Reindeer Recipes holiday blog hop.   A big thank you and hug goes out to Heather of Totally Tailgates for creating such a fun blog hop.

I hope you’ve enjoy the fabulous recipes, cocktail inspiration and beautiful holiday tablescapes as much as I have.  Be sure to stop by and visit my fellow bloggers to see what fabulous inspiration they are sharing today–you’re going to love it! I mentioned in my first Reindeer Recipes post that unlike many of the other bloggers in the blog hop, I am not a cook.  In fact, I can think of about 5,ooo other things I’d rather do than cook.  So the cocktail recipe and the mini cheese boards I shared in previous posts have something in common with today post.  They are all quick, easy holiday ideas that don’t involve cooking 🙂

If you’re in need of a last minute holiday gift, I’ve got a gift that anyone will love–Holiday Spiced Tea.  Not only is this a super easy to make but it is sure to bring back lots of childhood memories at Christmas time.

DIY Holiday Gift Idea: Mason Jar Matches

DIY Mason Jar Matches by ConfettiStyle

During the holidays I always keep a couple of candles on hand for last-minute gift giving.  Candles are one of my favorite gifts to give but sometimes I want a little something extra to go along with the candle.

As I’ve been out and about Christmas shopping, I’ve seen lots of cute jars filled matches.  I immediately thought about what a great gift matches would be paired with a candle.  And then, like all crafters and DIYers the thought of making my own Mason jar matches popped into my head.

A quick trip to the store to gather supplies and in no time flat I had created this sweet candle gift set.

DIY Mason Jar Matches by ConfettiStyle

Here’s what you’ll need to create your own DIY Mason Jar Matches…

Supplies

Mason jar (I found mine at Hobby Lobby)
sandpaper (this will make lighting candles even more convenient)
strike-anywhere matches
hot glue gun
candle  (one of my favorite holiday scents)
gift tag or sticker
twine or ribbon

Instructions

Take the lid off of your Mason jar, and use it to trace a circle on the sheet of sandpaper.
Using your hot glue gun, glue the sandpaper to the lid of the Mason jar.
Fill your jar with the matches, trimming down to size if necessary. Tip: It is important that the matches you use are labeled strike anywhere, or they will not ignite on the sandpaper.
Tie a bow on the Mason jar and add a decorative sticker or gift tag.

Since I like to stock up on hostess gifts to take me through the holiday season, I made a batch of these at one time. They’re adorable, inexpensive, and didn’t take much time at all.

My Christmas Gift Wrap–It’s All In The Details

Christmas Gift Wrap Inspiration

Can we talk Christmas gift wrap for a minute?

If you’ve been reading the blog for a while you all know that I am a bit of a snob when it comes to gift wrap and ribbon.  I don’t have anything against gift bags but when it comes to wrapping gifts, I whole-heartedly believe that the presentation of a gift adds to the entire gift giving experience.

When it came time to come up with a gift wrap plan for Christmas, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Paper Mart.  Paper Mart is a proud sponsor of the 2016 Merry & Bright Holiday Home Tour and they had everything I needed to make my gift wrap dreams come true.

img_52452016-christmas-giftwrap-by-confettistyle

Last year I created this mobile gift wrap cart to hold my holiday paper and ribbons.  I pulled it out again this year and stocked it with all my supplies.  You can read all about how I created the cart here.

img_52582016-christmas-giftwrap-by-confettistyle

There are lots of things I love about Paper Mart  including their vast range of wrapping paper, ribbon, embellishments, boxes and tissue paper.  They have wrapping paper for every gift occasion and a great offering of  party supplies.

img_52542016-christmas-giftwrap-by-confettistyle

img_52392016-christmas-giftwrap-by-confettistyle

The foundation of my gift wrap plan was this beautiful Pinecones & Poinsettia gift wrap.  There are lots of colors in this paper so I knew I could mix and match it with other wrapping paper and ribbons.

I’m a fan of two-sided ribbon and used the red and gold satin ribbon above to create a layered bow.  I tucked my favorite holly leaf embellishments under each corner of the bow.

img_52502016-christmas-giftwrap-by-confettistyle

For this box, I layered the poinsettia paper over a small black and white plaid paper.

img_5236

I used this gold metallic ribbon around a few solid colored boxes that I had.  The gold has a shimmer to it and is pretty when tied in a multi loop bow.

The pretty package embellishment is a vintage brooch I pulled out of my jewelry stash.

img_52482016-christmas-giftwrap-by-confettistyle

I paired the poinsettia paper with a black and white striped paper and love this look.  The embellishments on top are honeycomb tissue paper balls that I taped to the top of the belly band.  Belly band is a fancy name for a piece of paper that wraps around something. #ribbonlingo

img_52312016-christmas-giftwrap-by-confettistyle

This natural holly leaf ribbon is so pretty and you can see the beautiful bows you can make with it.  I added some small gold ornaments in the center for a little sparkle.

2016-confettistyle-christmas-9

I shared my Christmas tree in part 1 of the Merry & Bright Home Tour and matched some of the colors on the tree with the colors in the poinsettia paper. And I used the black and white plaid ribbon on the tree and for my Christmas gift wrap.

DIY Holly Leaf Swizzle Sticks

DIY Holly Leaf Swizzle Sticks by Confettistyle

I promised I’d give you the low down on how I made these cute Holly Leaf Swizzle Sticks so today I’m sharing the tutorial so you can whip out a few of these for yourself.

img_4969

First let’s talk supplies.

You’ll need wood cocktail stir sticks with a holiday sentiment on them.  I found my cocktail sticks at HomeGoods but found similar ones at TJMaxx and on Etsy.  If you’re shopping HomeGoods/TJMaxx look for the sticks in near the checkout line or back with the gift tags and holiday ribbon.  I spotted them in both spots in my local stores.

tip:  you could also use monogram stir sticks which you can find here.

img_1851

Merry Christmas Stir Sticks via Tulle and Twig on Etsy

Next you’ll need holly leaf embellishments to add to your swizzle sticks.  I purchased mine at Hobby Lobby but these exact ones don’t seem to be available online.  These 3-D holly leaf stickers are similar.  Or you could use these cute gift package stickers for another look.

img_1849

The last thing you’ll need is temporary  glue dots.  If you’re not familiar with glue dots, they are like adhesive tape but come in individual dots instead of one long strip like regular tape.

tip: the best part about using  dots is the fact that they aren’t permanent.  After your holiday party you can remove the holly leaf embellishment and use them again.

Glue Dots

Now the hard work begins.

Step 1:  Hold a swizzle stick in one hand and attach a glue dot to the front of the stick under the circular topper.

Step 2:  Attach a holly leaf embellishment on top of the glue dot to hold it in place. **the holly leaf embellishment I used had a small stem so after I attached it to the glue dot I wrapped the stem around the stick.

Voila!  You’ve got yourself really Christmas Swizzle Sticks in no time flat.

img_4968

img_4969

tip:  Swizzle sticks also make a great hostess gifts add-on with a bottle of wine.

Making these swizzle sticks is hard work so I recommend you sit back and enjoy a holiday cocktail after you make a couple of set.  Enjoy!
