This Is How I Do Easter Baskets

Custom Easter Basket by ConfettiStyle (20) copy

Growing up my mom would make Easter baskets  for me and my brother.  She went to great lengths to create those baskets and would always make them more than a basket full of candy.  It wasn’t unusual for me to find slippers or crafting supplies in my basket and my brother to find socks or drum sticks.  Every year the baskets felt special and unique, and they always brought smiles to our faces.

My Latest Thrifting Finds

Fireplace Damper Hook

Hello there and welcome to spring!

I hope everyone had a great weekend and found time to indulge in something you love.  It was pretty quiet around my parts with a good portion of the weekend rained out. One of the highlights of our weekend was purchasing a new vacuum.  After some research and trying to decide between a  Dyson and a Shark, we decided on the Shark Rotator Powered Lift Away.  Let me tell you this vaccum is awesome!  I can’t believe the amount of carpet fuzz and dust it picked up.

One of the other things I was able to do this weekend was to pop into one of my favorite thrift stores.  I literally had about 10 minutes to look around but was able to find a few treasures in that short period of time (some for me and some for my Etsy shop) and happy that I spent less than $25.

Here’s what I scored…

Thrifting Finds Mar. 2015

This gold ice bucket is a vintage piece from designer George Briard.  It was a deal at $8.00 and is signed by the artist on the bottom.  I’ll be putting this piece in my Etsy shop.

I’ve been looking for a small accent table to place in our bathroom and came across this one for $5.00.  The style is definitely not me so I’m going to paint it black or gold, or maybe a combination of the two.

Black and White Accent Table

I love vintage brass pieces and thought this brass damper hook was a great find.  It’s going in my Etsy shop.

And the last thing I found were these metal wall bins.  They were $1.50 each and I’m planning to stencil numbers on the front of each one and then hang them on a wall in our kitchen.

Pretty good scores right?!

Now that spring is here,  I’m looking forward to getting back into the swing of antique and thrift shopping.

Have you had any great thrifting finds lately?

A Lighting Company that’s so much more!

Rejuvenation Lighting (3)

On a daily basis my mailbox is filled with catalogs.  I try my best to flip through each one but often times they get laid to the side and then in a moment of de-cluttering they get thrown in the trash.

The other day I received the Rejuvenation Lighting & House Parts catalog in the mail and immediately stopped, dropped and looked at every page.  The cover image is what caught my attention and I couldn’t wait to learn more about this lighting and home line.

Rejuvenation House Parts was founded in 1977, but the story really begins in 1975 – when Jim Kelly purchased a condemned saloon in a rough-hewn Portland, Oregon neighborhood for $1,000. During two years of extensive renovations, Kelly had a difficult time finding the lighting and house parts he needed to preserve the historic character and details of his small building.

Recognizing an opportunity, he decided to use his small storefront to serve the needs of like-minded old-house renovators. After borrowing $2,500, he opened what was essentially a specialized junk store selling architectural salvage – things like doors, windows, light fixtures, clawfoot tubs. Using antique fixtures as models, he hired his first “manufacturing” employee to start making basic reproduction Victorian and early 20th-century ceiling fixtures and wall brackets.

By 1982, strong demand encouraged Kelly to create a mail-order catalogue. In 2011, Rejuvenation joined the Williams-Sonoma, Inc. portfolio of brands. Today we offer a wide range of products, including furniture and home décor, and have four retail stores.

At first glance Rejuvenation is a lighting company but boy-oh-boy do they have so much more to offer.

Cocktail Hour with Uncommon Goods + {a giveaway}

UnCommon Goods Martini Glasses (5) copy

One of the topics I love writing about here on the blog is entertaining. And although I don’t entertain and much as I’d love to, I’m always prepared for a party.

A couple of years ago I found a metal cart at a thrift store and transformed it into a bar cart.  It worked fine, but after living with it for a while I realized I wanted a larger bar cart.  Just so happens that I had a partially complete diy project sitting in the garage that would make the perfect bar cart.  The new bar cart has been painted but I’m waiting for some hardware that I ordered before I can finish it up.

Since the cart is almost complete, I’ve been on the hunt for unique barware to accessorize the cart with.

Out of nowhere, I was contacted by  Uncommon Goods, a company that sells unique designs and handcrafted gifts that are environmentally and worker-friendly. They asked if I wanted to review one of their products and I of course said yes.  After looking through the large selection of gift, home, kitchen, bar, art and jewelry items that Uncommon Goods sells, I found the perfect glasses for my bar cart.

The Shaken Martini Glasses are really beautiful in person and you know I couldn’t pass up with metallic confetti design and the gold-rimmed top.  I also love that the glasses are made of a thick heavy glass which speaks to their quality, and that they are made here in the USA.  The design is perfect for celebrating throughout the year and make a great toasting glass to ring in a new year.

The martini glasses are just one example of the awesome items they have on their site, most of which is made in the USA, half of which is made by hand and one-third of which is made with recycled or upcycled materials. I’ve also got my eye on this cheese board, these agate coasters and this fun artwork.   Uncommon Goods also has a great selection of gifts under $50 which you can view here  and unique jewelry pieces which you can see here .  And if you’re looking for a unique holiday gift they have a great assortment for all the men in your life.  You can view all the men’s gift here.

The great folks over at UnCommon Goods want to give you a chance to experience their products so they generously offered to give away a $25 gift certificate to one lucky reader.  You can enter the giveaway below. Giveaway last through Sunday, 2/22 and a winner will be announced on Monday, 2/23!

Affordable Home Decor: Look what $50{ or less} will buy you!

Who besides me loves a great deal?  When it comes to decorating my house, I love nothing more than finding a great looking item at an incredible price.  I am constantly shopping at big box stores like HomeGoods and TJ Maxx for budget friendly decor and just recently started shopping H and M Home.

I’ve always shopped H and M for inexpensive fashion accessories and was thrilled to learn that they offer home products.  Just like the jewelry and clothing that H and M sells, the home decor pieces aren’t investment pieces that will last a lifetime.  Their items are great for seasonal updates and if you love to change out your decor on a frequent basis like me, the H and M home prices allow you to do that without guilt.

I did a little surfing this weekend on the H and M site and found lots of items that I really love.  Here are six items that have great style and would be great for a end-of-winter decor update.

(favorite ) Shopping Sources for Knobs and Pulls

Decorativ Knobs2

When it comes to decorating, there are a lot of decorative elements that I’m obsessed with.

I love bamboo picture frames and brass planters.  I have a weakness for decorative boxes and animal print pillows. I rarely ever pass up a piece of milkglass or ironstone when I’m out antiquing. And then there’s my love of decorative knobs.  Whenever I’m at Anthropologie or Hobby Lobby, I always visit the knob bins.  The bins are like jewelry trays and I just love checking out all the sparkly, colorful knobs and envisioning how I can use them to update a piece of furniture or use them on a diy project.

I recently looked through a basket when I store my knobs and realized I have quite the collection.  Some of the knobs I have plans for and others I just loved and couldn’t pass up.  Last year I gave our bedroom armoire a makeover and UpStyled it with paint and knobs from Hobby Lobby.

Summer 2013 Bedroom Update (51)

Decorative knobs are one of the most cost-effective decorative elements you can buy, to easily and quickly transform a piece of furniture.  But finding the perfect knob can sometimes be a challenge.  To help you with the hunt, I’ve compiled a list of my favorite knob sources and what each of them has to offer.
