Product + Inspiration: Typography Letters

Decorating with typography letters can be a lot of fun.  As this craft turned decorative piece has gained popularity, you started seeing lots of designer incorporating letters into chic wall decor statements.  Now typography letters are being used in many different applications not only because they add a personal touch to decor but also because they are one of most budget-friendly accessory items you can buy.

Here’s a round-up of some of my favorite typography letters and inspiring images on how they can be used to decorate.

FIVE place where round mirrors are ideal!

Round Mirrors.001

domaine home

When it comes to decorating, some spaces call for a rectangular mirror while others are ideal for round mirrors.

Mirrors as a whole are wonderful to decorate with because of the added dimension and light they add to a room.  In addition to that, mirrors can create a sense of space and make a smaller room feel bigger.

I’ve used round and rectangular mirrors as part of my decor but if I had to make a choice, I think I’d choose a round mirror or a square or rectangular any time.

Here’s a look at five places where round mirror are ideal for decorating:

♦♦♦

No. 1 –Round Mirror In The Foyer

A round mirror in the foyer adds an unconventional touch to traditional decor.  The curved lines of a round mirror provide a contrast to the straight lines of doorways and stairs and when placed opposite a glass inset door, the mirror enhances the natural light that flows into the space.

No. 2 –Round Mirror Over A Nightstand Vanity

If you are using a desk or vanity table as a nightstand, consider a round mirror.  Again the round shape provides a visual contrast to the square lines of the furniture and will create a vignette that feels softer and more feminine.

No. 3 –Round Mirror Over a Mantle

When placed over a mantle, a round mirror creates a open feeling and works when layered with other framed art pieces or decorative objects.  Pay close attention to the size of the round mirror you use over the mantle to ensure it has a enough heft and weight to balance the overall scale of the fireplace.

No. 4 –Round Mirror At The End of A Hallway

Decorating the wall at the end of hallway can be challenging.  A mirror is a good option for this space especially if the area doesn’t get a lot of natural light and if the space is compact. The reflection in the mirror will create visual dimension and add visual interest.

No. 5 –Round Mirror In A Gallery Wall Display

Since gallery wall displays typically  include an abundance of square and rectangular framed art pieces, a round mirror thrown into the mix will give the overall arrangement a more relaxed feel.  When using a single mirror in the grouping the mirror can be the focal point and when if you’re using multiple mirrors, go with mirrors in a smaller size so the total wall grouping is the focal point.

When it comes to shopping for round mirrors, I’ve lucked out and found some great styles at HomeGoods but one of my go-to sources with guaranteed inventory is Wayfair.  Here are some of my faves from their site:

Kichler Scallop Wall Mirror

And for small mirrors, I always shop Target which has a great selection of mirror sets between $24.00 and $39.00.

So when it comes to mirrors, do you stick with traditional rectangular shapes or have you given round mirrors a try?

The Great Frame Debate

Slide1

After showing the gold foil quote art I found at #HomeGoods on Monday, I went looking for some fresh gallery wall inspiration.  While looking through images a really perplexing questions came to mind…what frame color is best for a gallery wall display–white, black, gold or a mix?

While that might sound like an easy question to answer, there are decorating pros and cons with each frame color making the decision a tough one.

So to answer the question and to give me an opportunity to share a few design tips with you,  I thought we’d tackle The Great Frame Debate once and for all!

How To Mix Art

Slide6

Choosing artwork is one of the hardest design decisions you can make simply because art is such a personal choice.  Most people have an affinity towards a particular style of artwork and most people are pretty clear on the type of artwork they don’t like.  While I’m pretty clear on the type of artwork I don’t like, I’m open to a wide range of artwork styles which can sometimes create a decorating challenge.

If you’re like me and are attracted to a variety of artwork styles then you too probably struggle with how to mix different styles together.

Today I’m going to talk about different ways to you combine artwork and share tips that will make the art of Mixing Art a whole lot easier.

Printable Art–My Love Note Designs

Slide2

Thank you for all the wonderful comments on our spring bedroom refresh.

Today I wanted to share a little more about the beautiful prints I used in the bedroom.  I knew I wanted to place a grouping of images on the wall next to the window and closet to my side of the bed.  You see that wall when you enter the room so I wanted to make an impact.  I also knew that whatever I hung I that wall would be hung in gold frames.

Since one of the goals for the refresh was to add more accents of gold into the space, frames were an obvious and easy solution.

ConfettiStyle Spring Bedroom Refresh12

All four of the prints I used are from an awesome Etsy shop called MyLoveNotedesigns.  The shop is run by Christina who personally designs all of the printable art, many which contain inspirational words and positive messages.  Christina opened her Etsy shop in 2014 after starting a family and leaving an accounting career and the corporate world behind.  Christina said she started designing her prints as a way to inspire and remind herself of what is meaningful in life and to personally connect with others.

ConfettiStyle Spring Bedroom Refresh9

The collection of prints I choose to use were perfect for a bedroom space and also allowed me to add a touch of personalization into the room.  The LOVE print is one of my favorite designs and gold foil is so pretty once printed.  The HEART of flowers couldn’t have been more perfect for our room with a black background and pink flowers.  I also choose a monogram print and love how Christina has added flowers to give the design a special touch.  The last design in the group reads All Of Me Loves All Of You and I love both the message and the delicate details of the design.

ConfettiStyle Spring Bedroom Refresh2

Once printed, I placed each image in a Ikea frame which I spray painted gold using Rustoleum Bright Coat Spray Paint (which happens to be my favorite gold spray paint)

ConfettiStyle Spring Bedroom Refresh22

I’ve purchased several printable images from Etsy in the past and I must say that the collection of designs that MyLoveNotedesigns offers is one of the best.  There are over 450 designs to choose from including gold foil, nursery designs, calendars, meal planners, expense trackers and weekly planners and most of the designs are $5.00 or less.  And, Christina also offers custom orders if you have a specific design in mind.

Because there are so many great prints, picking your favorites will be tough but you can use my list of top 10 to help you shop…
