Growing up my mom would make Easter baskets for me and my brother. She went to great lengths to create those baskets and would always make them more than a basket full of candy. It wasn’t unusual for me to find slippers or crafting supplies in my basket and my brother to find socks or drum sticks. Every year the baskets felt special and unique, and they always brought smiles to our faces.
As an adult, I’ve followed in my mom’s footsteps and create Easter baskets for my family. Like her, I try to customize the baskets and make them extra special for my family.
One of the key ways I make my baskets unique is that I don’t use a basket as the container. Instead I use a container that is either functional or decorative, or both to build my Easter basket around.
Since my brother just got a place here in Atlanta, I decided that this year his basket was going to be part house-warming gift, part Easter basket. I purchased some sweet treats along with two bottles of champagne and used a vintage ice buckets as the basket.
When it comes to what I put in my Easter baskets, I add a mix of items like nail polish, perfume, soaps, tea, a gift card and of course candy. And instead of the plastic easter grass you can buy, I shredded some green tissue paper and used that as filler.
I’m finishing up the basket for my mom and decided to use a planter as the basket. When mother’s day rolls around I’ll get her a dwarf gardenia plant to put in the planter.
That my friends is how I do Easter baskets!
If you’re thinking of making an Easter basket for family or friends, here are a few container ideas you might consider…
* Empty Paint Can (for someone who loves to diy)
* Salad Bowl (for someone who loves to cook)
* A Vase (for someone who loves to decorate)
* A Picnic Basket (for someone who loves to picnic)
* A Wood Crate (for someone who loves vintage decor)
